New to Type 2

Hi. I was diagnosed with type type 2 diabetes two months ago it was a shock as I’d just gone up for a general health check. I’m learning as I go myself as haven’t had any help from my surgery as yet. So after looking online and joining two Facebook groups I have been cutting my carbs and of course all the other naughty stuff such as chocolate, wine and gin… This MyFitnessPal was suggested so I’m giving it a go. Any advice on diet etcetera would be gratefully received. Sorry for the long winded message. Xx

Hi! What was your last A1c reading? I had a reading of 7.2 on October 6th, 2021. On January 6th this year, my new reading was 5.3. My doc told me to keep doing what I was doing, and I no longer need to take Metformin or do the finger sticks to keep track. I've also brought my blood pressure down from 140-150/90s to under 120/80. And I only did it by diet. I cut the carbs drastically to under 20grams per day. As a carb lover, this was very hard but I was determined. So my tip for you is to make your diary goals match this: Carbs 10%; Protein 20-25%; Fat 65-70%. After you can be consistent with 10% (usually around 30 grams) then lower your carbs to 5% and adjust your protein and fat accordingly.

Exercise helps as well, but you don't need to go crazy. Just moving a bit each day will help bring your numbers down. Good luck!
