Arghhhh. I had actually made some headway and was back to 130.0 yesterday and now--boom! I suspect that it's the mustard honey pretzel pieces I had last night. One good thing about weighing several times a week and logging food every day is that I can go back and compare other spikes. And I quickly saw another full pound spike on a day after I snacked on those pretzel pieces late in the evening.

So bad things don't go in threes, or else I'm working on my next three! You won't believe this. The freezer repairman was here yesterday, and we breathed a little sigh of relief that we again have a working water heater and freezer. Then late last night we heard a beeping in the kitchen. Went in and saw F11 error flashing on the range. I hit cancel, it went off and we went on our way. Then an hour later, it happened again. This time, it took some doing to get it to turn off. And finally, after we've gone upstairs to get ready for bed, there it was again. So hubby flipped the circuit breaker off so we would not get woken up by that racket. This morning, we called the company that was out yesterday to fix the freezer, and they're due back at 3 p.m. today. I think they like us because we pay by check and tip the technician well. So at least there is not a long wait.

But really--hot water heater, frig/freezer, and range all within a 2-week period? Top that off with a dental implant? Are we living wrong? I can tell you that it's getting harder to stay positive and remain grateful, but I know what allowing myself to get into self-pity or anger will do, and I don't want to go there.

I did not talk to my sister yesterday, but Monday afternoon my BIL was beginning to feel better, but she was developing a sore throat. Which does not sound good. Her step-daughter who is a nurse said she did not want to test her for covid yet since early false negatives are so common. So I am just holding my breath.

But back to the topic at hand, my 7-day averages (Wednesday-Tuesday) were:

Steps = 13,197
Kcals burned = 1,775 (made my goal to burn 1,800 on at least 3 days)
Calories consumed = 1,364

So going up a pound does not seem possible, but we all know that there are these ups and downs, so I'm going to just stick with trying to burn as close to 1800 kcals a day as I can, walk as much as I can, keep actual kcals around 1300 to 1400, and watch salt. That last item is very hard in this house and both hubby and I like salty foods.

Lois, I do hope that yesterday was a little easier on you than Monday was and I'm so glad that you have your daughter's arrival tomorrow to look forward to. We all so need those little pockets of joy as we maneuver around life.

Sheesh and Kelly, I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Kelly, I was so happy to hear that you've been taking that morning time for yourself. What a good way to start the day. I know you have a lot of people at home and at work pulling at your time. Sheesh, I am so thankful your daughter and SIL were so diligent when he was sick. I hope everyone in your family continues to stay well and that you enjoyed that rare night out with your girlfriends. I'm still doing my arm exercises and when I do, I think of you!

Just popping on to log the numbers.

Opened an email that my daughter is in SFO and arriving today (forgot to remove a day when she was in Japan). so YAY!!!!

Sarah - I'm so sorry for all that you're going through - dang appliances that are not made to last. I will add your sister to my prayers that she does not contract the dreaded C.

Life is getting settled or somewhat of a routine. Mom seems to be shutting down, but I'm really hoping that Tasha's visit will make her smile and thrive.

Ok. gotta get stuff done cuz now I have to go to airport today!! Twist my arm!! It will be torture but someone has to do it! Can't wait to see my little girl!

That kind of surprises me. . I've had some Girl Scout Cookies I got from my granddaughter in Cali, lol. It may yet show up on the scale, but I've worked out every day and I'm back with my trainer twice a week again, and she is NOT going easy on me anymore! My legs are still store from Monday's workout.

Sarah the appliances always seem to go around the same time if they're the same age . . you're not living wrong, lol.

I'm so impressed with the amount of steps and calorie burn you get. I looked back through my stats on Apple . . I worked out every day in the last 7 days, but the times I burned over 1,800 was on the days I had a weight training workout and a cardio workout, and 1 day when I did long cardio and a HIIT workout.

Lois, I'm so excited for you to see your daughter! I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time catching up and spending time together. I'll keep sending your MIL good thoughts.

I'm going out with my friends on Sunday. Thankfully, the numbers here are dropping fast.

Wow, sorry ladies. I haven't posted or updated everyone in forever!

Exercise and health - I'm still getting up early in the morning and getting my 30 minutes on the treadmill. It's not much but it's something more than I was getting on my work days. On my days off, I have added in weights and the exercise bike too. When it's nice out, I get little walks in with the pup and with the amount of snow we've had this year, I shovel almost every day. It's insane.
I haven't posted in so long, but I don't believe I told you that our Son had Covid. He came home from school on Feb 2 with a stuffed up nose and a bit of a cough. Nothing major. Because his Mom works in a senior living facility, we got a rapid test from her and we tested him. Sure enough, he was positive. It was a super faint line, but it was there. So he was quarantined into the basement for 5 days. We left him food on the stairs and what not. He was definitely bored down there, even with video games and TV. Just to be sure, we tested him the next day and the line was more clear. Luckily, other than a minor cold and being tired, he was fine and crazy enough, none of us got sick. Not even his Mom who shared a smoothie with him the day before. Weird how this virus works. Shawn was sick at Christmas time with a stuffy nose, and we rapid tested him but it was negative. We still think that he probably had it. None of us ended up with symptoms though, so who knows.

Work - I got a new Manager a few weeks back and the department has kind of had a shake up with many staff coming and going. The whole company has been like that for the past year. So, it's been super busy for me at work. I'm still mostly working at home, but at least now I can go in when I need to and work.

Family - The kids are good and still busy with school and hockey. Tyler will be starting at a high school next year for Grade 10, so he's busy learning about that and trying to figure out what courses he wants to take. Shawn is headed to Ontario right now to go snowmobiling with some friends that have a cabin there. He'll be back on Sunday. The kids Mom is headed to Mexico on the 27th and I'm so super jealous. They only recently announced that travelers won't need a PCR test to get back into Canada now, so she should have no chance of getting stuck there. Our province is fully lifting restrictions by March 15. No more masks needed unless businesses request them and no more needing to show our vaccine cards to enter places. FINALLY I feel like we're slowly getting back into some normalcy.

Lois - Sorry to hear about your MIL. End of life sure is tough. I hope she's still able to smile and enjoy the little things and that you're feeling less stressed about the situation. Great to hear you get to see your Daughter sooner than you thought.

Sarah - Wow.. not great luck lately with your house! Jeez.. like give a girl a break man. It's great you're also still trying to remain positive, but it's hard when it seems like the world (or electronics lol) is out to get you. Great job with all of your activity!!

Sheesh - I hear you on the sore legs. I have slowly been adding in arm and leg workouts and man.. it takes me a good 3 days right now, not to be sore. Eventually it'll be better, its just a matter of getting there.

Kelly, it was a nice surprise to log in and see your post. I've been thinking about you a lot as we're seeing news from the border. I'm sorry to hear that your stepson had covid, but I'm glad it was a mild case and that you have a bathroom and a place for him to sleep in the basement so he could isolate there. I talked to my sister yesterday and her husband is feeling better, and her sore throat is also doing better, so hopefully she is not also coming down with Covid. I'm think my BIL lucked out because he got his booster in December and so it's not to that 4-month mark yet. And good for you for getting on the TM and also using weights! If you are sore, that means you're building muscle. I need to up my weights and perhaps reps, too, since I have started not getting very sore.

I saw the implant specialist yesterday and the bad news there is that the molar root is cracked in more than one spot and I will need some bone grafting, so the cost will be double what I expected and the time will be about 3 months longer. It's not like I have a choice, but gosh dang, if you look at this tooth it looks great from the outside. Like I said before, I'm just trying to stay grateful that we can dip into savings and I'm not stuck with just having it extracted, as some folks would be. And this doc, who is a seasoned specialist, assured me that there's no way I can put this off because it's not a question of if it will become abcessed, but when. So the extraction date is March 10. Send me some good vibes, ladies. I need them! I had hoped to do a little travel this spring, but I think my travel funds are going to Dr. S and Dr. B.

Lois, I know that you are in seventh heaven since Tasha is home and you also have Rhea this weekend. It's nice to know that there's good things after such a rough patch and I hope your MIL's situation improves, too.

Sheesh, if you're hitting the 1800 kcal burn a couple of times a week, it sounds like we're in the same ballpark. You may even be doing better than me because I swear Fitbit's calorie expenditures are too high. And they're inconsistent. I walk about 90 minutes a day, and some days my burn rate for those 90 minutes is much higher than it is other days. You're still my inspiration for holding in the low to mid-120s, so go and enjoy a few drinks with the ladies on Sunday. We all need some more normal fun time.

Well, the sun has set, and the dark is upon us, so I'm going to call it a day. It's bitter cold and the wind is whipping, so it's time to settle in with a book. We went to an Italian deli and picked up sandwiches for dinner. Not the best option, but we only have 3 more days without a range. We got the call around 5 that the part is in, and the technician will be here Tuesday morning.

    Take care everyone. <3

Dinner with my friends was fun. The restaurant wasn't crowded, so I felt comfortable. It was fun to catch up in person. Although, I'm not going to expect a reduction on Wednesday, lol.

Kelly, it's so good to read your update, and it sounds like you're doing really well with the early morning treadmill . . fantastic. I'm sure you'll see results and feel better too. Hope you like your new manager and all the new changes with your job. Maybe you and Shawn can get out of town sometime soon. It's been so long, and we all need a vacation, right?

Sarah, I don't remember if you mentioned the level of pain with your tooth, but I'm sure it will be worse if not taken care of now. I hope it goes well. If nothing else, you might get a weight reduction, lol. I know it's totally not worth it . . just looking for a bright side. I hope all the appliance repairs are done for a while, too.

I got to see my darling granddaughter over the weekend . . she is growing soooo fast! She's showing a lot of interest in our food. . doctors now say 6 months before solid food. She's 4 months old now, so I hope she can wait, lol. She's already rolling and scooting around on the floor. . sat propped in a high chair. It's all going too fast!

Lois, I'm so happy your daughter is with you now. Thinking of you.

    Be back Wednesday.

Happy Tuesday ladies. I began a post yesterday, but the day went to hell in a handbasket and anything that could go wrong, did. Couldn't get connected to the office. Then my external monitors dropped from my laptop. I had to reset several times. and twice a full shut down to get going for the day. Mom's caregiver was lost and late. Mom was hungry and since I didn't know when the caregiver was going to arrive, I had to help her with breakfast. Tasha is here but still quasi on Japan time, as she's teleworking and trying to be available to her supervisor in the evening. 3pm here is 7am there, so she's not really available for early morning assistance. Yes, I'm super happy she's here!! We did have Rhea visit with her family over the weekend, along with Mom's sister and niece. It was fun, frustrating and chaotic all at once. Too much for mom at times. They left not quite so early yesterday morning. They had planned to leave before dawn, but they were so tired/comfy they didn't come downstairs until almost 8 and didn't leave until almost 9.

Food. Oh my goodness, food. So post covid, hubby and I primarily ate the platter from Pita Jungle. Well, whenever my daughter arrives, we always stop at In N Out for burgers on the way home (California specialty that's crossed state lines. Any how, we started with IN N ouT burgers. Then on to something else, then something else and now we're eating whatever. Weight is creeping up, but we'll figure it out soon...I hope.

One positive with moving mom downstairs and my office upstairs is that I am hitting my 10 flights of stairs almost daily (yesterday before 9am!!). LOL Silver linings.

Last night my other granddaughter Kelsie, her mom and other grandparents came up for dinner to see Tasha. We ordered from two restaurants to make everyone happy. The other grands go back to OH on Wednesday. They're both 20 years older than me and it was good to see them.

We THINK we have mom's caregiver scheduling figured out, using two agencies, but at least we're getting help. Tonight and Thursday we're going to try having someone overnight and see if that helps hubby sleep better (and me). They'll be here 10p-7am so I don't have to wake so early to relieve hubby of the monitor.

Sarah I am so sorry to hear about your appliances and your tooth. I did have two teeth pulled and still have not replaced with the implants. I'm a old toothless granny...lol.

Kelly - amazing at getting on the TM and getting your activity in. My days are so scrambled that when I wake at 530am (yep, that's a thing now), I hit my desk and work. I need to get out and start walking again. Proud of you!

Sheesh - keep up your amazing activities and enjoy your granddaughter this weekend.

So I know in past years I've tried to explain our cold weather and how much snow we have. This particular winter has been absolutely ridiculous so I have to put it down for you to see.

The temperature outside today is -32C (-26F) but with the wind it's -41C (-42F). We're in the middle of ANOTHER "extreme old warning".
As of Feb 20, we have 156.6cms of snow... which is 61.65 inches.. .which is 5.14 feet!

We literally have no other places left to pile it when shoveling or snowblowing our driveway and our city snowplows for the roads and sidewalks have no where left to put it either.

This past weekend we had like our 8th snowstorm of the year. We have broken records and it's now the 3rd most snow we've had until Feb 20 in Winnipeg. In 1955-56 there was 210.2cms and in 1919-20 there was 165.1cms... THAT's INSANE! And winter isn't even over yet...

    OMG I need a vacation.

Holy cow Kelly!!! I won't complain about our weather AT ALL!!! Glad you have your basement completed.

    We all need a vacay!!
