Wow. Not good. I knew the alcohol and sodium of sushi would get me. Gotta double down now. And, I can't believe I just typed March! With Maui coming up I want to work harder.
Kelly, I can only think of two or maybe three times in my lifetime that we've had over 5 feet of snow, in the foothills . . it's more common in the mountains here. But, this year is really dry . . too dry. Send some of that snow our way! Hang in there . . we all do need a vacay. I hope Covid will cooperate this year.
Sarah, you're really getting in a lot of walking. . good work. Like I'm always struggling with myself, it's so much about intake, activity, and muscle. Adding some squats and lunges to your arm exercises would increase muscle, and over time give you more calorie burn when you walk. Maybe think about adding legs?
Lois, I hope you can get some good visiting time with your daughter even though she's on a different work time zone. It sounds like you've had a lot of visitors, and that's stressful. Hopefully, you can carve out time for self care once your MIL is on a good care schedule.
I'm off to workout, and later play dates and family zoom.

Not where I had hoped, but at least it's not as high as last week. I've had a few days in the 129's this past week, so that's hopeful. I know, however, that I'm having trouble with the pause after a meal. You know that few minutes after you eat when your tummy says, "more!" I was doing better with that a few weeks ago, but last night I found myself reaching for the tortilla chips hubby left on the coffee table just a few minutes after we finished dinner.So a goal for the coming week is to work on that.
Kelly, 5 feet of snow is something I've seen only once in my life. We had snowmaggedon back in 2010 and the snow beside our walkway was actually over my head. This year, we've only had a couple of small snows, so we'll take a little of yours, too. But I know how weather that limits what you can do can get to you. We get some of that in summer when it's 100 degrees and so humid you can't breath. Today, it feels like spring here. I could actually walk outside without a coat. But by weeks end, we'll be back to winter. Our weather is like someone pulling lottery numbers: 58 30 42 25 70! And last night when the warm air hit the cold, the wind was so fierce, it was dangerous to open your car door.
Sheesh, it's great that you have Maui to look forward to. I do better when I have something fun up ahead to motivate me. This year, with our extra expenses and one paycheck, I think our travel will be limited to long weekends in driving range. So share lots of photos!I have a girlfriend who recently moved to the big island. She and her husband bought a goat farm. And she's a suburban gal! But I love her photos of the green spaces and blue, blue skies.
Lois, I know you are loving your time with Tasha and I bet that your MIL's spirits have been lifted by having her visit. I hope that her health improves and that the aides give you that breathing room you need.
I have had computer (or internet) issues for the past couple of days (not sure which), and Fitbit is one of the sites that is giving me DNS errors. So I can't post my 7-day average steps, burn, etc. right now, but I will do that when I can. I think my average steps were in 13 thousands and I got my 1800 burn on three days. I'm going to try to go for 4 days on that this week.0 -

I'm not surprised. We've been eating horribly since Tasha arrived. Not blaming her - we all agreed to the varied foods. We're all still adjusting. Starting to get some repeat caregivers. The morning schedule is solid with the same girl every day, now to get the afternoon/evening tied down. We're tired. We had our first overnight caregiver last night. Hubby got a bit more sleep, I still woke up at weird times, but that's not so unusual. She'll be back tomorrow night and hoping we'll both see improvement in our rest.
My typing is atrocious!
We've lost our 80's and back in the 60's with RAIN!! steady drizzle - enough to soak you through and it's been nonstop today.
Sheesh - when is Maui?? I wanna go..... lol.
Kelly - I think when we went skiing in Grand Targhee in Idaho was close to the only time I've been in over 5' of snow...well maybe Heavenly in South Lake Tahoe. All times, only to ski for a week or less. I don't think I could handle as much as you are getting and live in it.
Sarah - keep it up.
Ok...so cruising something entirely different on the internet and a blurb pops up about 10k steps was made up by a japanese marketing firm. University of Mass, Amherst did do a study and found that 7k steps is also optimal...minor improvements beyond 7k, but nothing drastic or earth shattering! WTH?!?!!
Oh and by the way, I don't know if I've mentioned this, but my daily stair counts are typically double digits!!! Ok gotta go help turn Mom.0 -
Happy Friday Eve. I cannot believe that I just typed a fairly long post and then lost it! Perhaps it's better, as I probably went on too long!
So, I'll recap by saying that although I don't think my cyber troubles are over, I was finally able to get into the fitbit site to get my 7-day average from last week:
Steps = 13,082
Burn = 1,808
Stairs = 18
I expect those may be lower next week because my walking buddy must report for Federal jury on Monday. The Federal court is in Greenbelt, MD, which is only accessible via the Capital beltway, and it's always a nightmare. I really feel for her. And we are also going out to eat for the first time in months on Saturday to celebrate the birthday of one of the neighbors with whom we go to the pool in the summer. It will be her, us, and another couple who live up the block. At least it's seafood, so I should have some better choices, and it will be so good to get out.
And finally, I mentioned that hubby is starting a clinical trial today. It's to test the endurance of a second Moderna booster. He is pleased to have the chance to participate but getting him out of the house this morning was hectic. He lost his glasses and was panicked and cranky! After a mad race, we found them exactly where they should be and where he said he had already checked! And right after that, I discovered that he forgot about a PT appointment. Oy vay! Does nervous energy burn extra calories?0 -
Sarah - If nervous energy burnt calories.. I would be stick thin
That's neat that he gets to try out that extra booster. Interesting to know how it all works. Great job on the activity too!
Sheesh - OMG I wish I was going to Maui with you. I need a trip so bad. We started looking, but if we go it wouldn't be until after the kids hockey playoffs, which if they go the distance and don't get knocked out, then it could go until March 19. In saying that, with everything happening in Ukraine, it might not be the best time to leave our country. Those poor people.
Lois - Great job with all the stairs! Every bit counts for sure. I'm also not convinced that getting 10,000 steps are super important either. I'm on a roll with getting at least 30 minutes of exercise a day and I close all my apple watch rings. I don't pay attention to the steps anymore. As long as I move throughout the day, I'm happy.0 -
Hubby and I were up all night . . . he had a call from his SIL in Arizona (remember he went in October with his brother here to see his youngest brother who has cancer). She asked him to please come "now". So, we found a flight at 6 am this morning that had one seat remaining, and I got him to the airport in time. We just talked on the phone, and he said I should probably start looking for flights to Phoenix. It's so sad.
He says he doesn't want me to come now, but start looking because his niece just got there from Louisiana and his brother is also coming in as well as Arizona brother's step son and his wife. There are neighbors, friends, and hospice nurses, and it's a bit chaotic. My poor hubby. He's very, very sad. This brother is the youngest the three boys, only 63. He played football in college and went to the gym every day his whole life. He was the strongest man. So, in the next few days I will be flying to Phoenix. Lois, it's an end of life situation, so we'll be going through similar experiences.
Kelly, our trip to Maui is March 27 through April 5. (We have an anniversary on the 25th, shared with daughter here.) I hope we can still go. With cancer and covid, we just keep taking things one day at a time. I'm more than looking forward to it. We desperately need a break. It was wonderful to have all our family for the Holidays, but warm weather and down time together will hopefully perk us up after so much in the past 2 years. We all need to plan get-aways . . even if only a weekend.
The people in Ukraine are ALL absolute heroes. What they're going through is barbaric and inexcusable. I sent a donation to a humanitarian charity to (hopefully) help them. No more Russian vodka or beer for us. . our governor pulled it all off the shelves. Putin is going to hurt is own people, too.
Sarah, I'm so pleased about the clinical trial your hubby is taking part in. I've been wondering about a second booster with everything I've got coming up. And, I know what you mean about rushing around to find last minute things to get them out the door. The older my hubby gets (and stressed) the more forgetful. I was helping him go through the check list of things he might need, including his vaccination card, which he always forgets.
Lois, I'm thinking about you, and I hope your daughter time has been wonderful. I'll be in your neck of the woods soon.
Keep up all the great activity, and I'll try to get back on Wednesday for weigh in.

Sheesh, I so very sorry to hear about your BIL. I did not even go into MFP yesterday, so I'm just seeing this. I can just imagine what your hubby is going through. My hubby lost his only brother a few years ago. Please know that I'm thinking about you both and your family members.
Lois, I saw your FB post last night, which you probably know, and you and yours are in my thoughts and prayers, too.
I'll be back later. Hang tight my dear friends.0
