MorticiaAddamsMSFS Challenge - Decluttering

I am trying to go through, recycle, repurpose, use up, donate, throw away, find a permanent home for, etc. at least one item cluttering up my home every day. More is better - like a bad full or box full. It can be paperwork, magazines, books, pictures, knickknacks, clothes, food, expired food, old meds, old cosmetics, whatever is in my face or in my way. Today I threw away a bunch of papers and an old T.V. guide magazine. I burned a pile of trash in the burn pile.

Sounds like a very good and freeing challenge. I need to do the same in my garage. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks. I intend to lighten my load. Hubby will probably be resistant. He is already trying to fill up places I have emptied but I m not going to put up with it. I have told him that the house will be for house stuff and the pole barn for pole barn stuff. He tries to turn the house into a pole barn and he has the pole barn a total mess.

Thanks! I got a few things thrown away today but I got more accomplished when I decluttered part of the kitchen counter and the back porch and put things away. I picked up limbs in the yard.

It really is an empowering things to do. It has been proven to help in other areas of life. Getting control builds confidence. I am continuing with my goal. Some days are better than others but I still make an effort. It's important to achieve balance in life.

I like the ‘getting control builds confidence’ statement. Feels very empowering.

My eating and my clutter has been out of control for some time. Years. I am almost 70 - running out of time to get control and enjoy life. That is hard to accomplish when you are carrying around too much extra weight while living in a mess.

I agree with decluttering bringing control and confidence. I am beginning to feel better mentally. I am not so overwhelmed. I just set in my mind what the next task will be. Covid brought this house down with too much buying. It never used to be like this.

Then we got sick on top of it. 😆

My sis is still buying. One solar light goes bad. I say take two up, throw the bad one away and keep the other good one in storage. Sis says let's buy another set! I asked her if she will put them together....no. I am tired of dealing with other ppl's stuff. I told her I didn't have the energy to deal with all of that. I think she already bought them.

Don’t know where you guys are but we’ve had a great week of weather here in Atlanta. Going to spend a good portion of the day playing with indoor and outdoor plants. First there will be a gym visit and some shopping for cookout this evening with friends. No weight loss this week but enjoying the overall weight loss of the last 6 months. Have lost 28 and need to lose another 32. I ain’t givin up! Love the decluttering chat. Thanks for posting.

You will have a fabulous day! It reached 73 degrees here today! I am mainly working inside in small increments with rest in between, but I have my windows open with a nice breeze flowing through, and I plan to take some dog walks outside later!

You are doing great on your weight loss too!!

    🌞💕

It was nice here too and we got outside some. We needed the fresh air. I took time to do some batch cooking and threw out a magazine.

Should we consider the magazine a small victory?😊 I say yes and congratulations.

Yes, I always count everything as I tend to hang onto things I don't need to. It was a T.V. guide from 2019!! We have not had T.V. since December of 2020. LOL.

Things tend to be crammed in every nook and cranny here and we have way too much paper stuff and clothing.

    I don't feel alone! 😁

I am just looking at big projects right now. Things that will make the most impact in the short run, like more room in the basement.

I will be putting together my rollator soon, though, so I can start walking around the block again! It has a seat where I can sit and rest if I need to do so.

Sounds like an excellent plan. I need to copy that and go for what will make the most impact.

    Those rollators are nice.

You guys are inspiring me. I am happiest when I am engaged in a project. Was hoping to do some planting this weekend but weather is going to turn cold and rainy. I think the garage is beckoning instead. Also my car needs some TLC as I have been hauling some plants.

I want to start our garden too. I have been very busy. We decluttered part of the garage. I helped hubby arrange it as he is not good with organization. I found things I can take out of his way and made room for 2 large items to leave the house that go outside. Huge score this week. We moved the hutch and the curio cabinet into the house too. Big week for me. Success!

My husband and I beyond decluttered when we retired several years ago. We sold/gave away most of our possessions and hit the road (in a tiny teardrop trailer). We had the smallest storage unit with our remaining items. We’re in a new state now, with a new (to us) house, and mostly new furnishings. So, I don’t need to declutter, excluding 4 boxes of photos (~1 for every decade married, a bit of a slacker there in regards to photo albums) and 3 boxes of “memories” (kid artwork, primarily, not really sure). My retirement plan was always to go through them and I just haven’t gotten to them yet. You have an excellent goal, which I should embrace myself (not quite there yet, lol).

You are very brave to let go of so many things. I was a former minimalist and now I get too attached to things that have memories associated with them,

This week we have thrown out tons of things - huge things - including a mattress and box springs. And we put our new ones in. We are spring cleaning. Working on parts of rooms at a time.

Great post. Had this wonderful visual of you getting more space and a feeling of accomplishment.
Spring was definitely in the air in Atlanta yesterday. Everyone in a good mood. Plants and trees starting to leaf out. Tulips coming up. Things I thought were dead in the garden showing signs of life. Couldn’t help but smile and be grateful for the day.

It really is freeing. We have been trapped by junk way too long. Spring here too and I have more crocus than I have ever had. Love it.

You encouraged me to start cleaning/decluttering the bathrooms! I always "clean" but decluttering allows one to make it cleaner and more presentable. My main motivation was the need to have the plumber over to fix the "piston" in my hot water handle! I have my lovely shower back!

Wtg for all your accomplishments! The new bed sounds wonderful too!

We are still doing well with the decluttering and remodeling. I have to burn a garbage can full of stuff almost every day. The place is starting to slowly improve.
