Not unlike cleaning out a closet...it always looks worse with all the contents spread out in the room, where you're trying to decide whether to give away, pitch or keep. I remember as a little girl and my mom would tell my sister and I to neaten our dresser drawers. We would take a slip and lay it, oh, so carefully, over the top of the (messy) contents of each drawer. How did my mom always know that we didn't quite accomplish the task set before us?

This (slip/dresser) memory triggered another one…my mom clearly gave up when my sister and I were teens. She would occasionally come into our room and open an air freshener and toss it under that same dresser. When my sister and I eventually got around to cleaning our room, we would find several of these air fresheners. A statement of the infrequency of cleaning our room!

LOL. So funny. My mom was a fanatical housekeeper and she demanded the same of me when I lived at home.

I understand the feeling. It can feel overwhelming. That's why I'm a dib and dab declutterer; although, I must say I am tempted to just through it all away.

Sending hugs. You and Benny are doing great work!

I am getting better at letting go of things. I broke 2 things yesterday and was not looking for glue to repair them. LOL.

I was trying to throw away my sister's " poo pillow," and she wouldn't let me. I unsuccessfully tried to clean it, then announced that I would throw it away, and she got mad and went out to work on it. It looks clean now, but I'm not going to use it! I will put the decorative pillows in the dryer with dryel.

That dog poo pillow stayed in our hallway for a month with sis saying she would clean it. That's when I know I am living with a hoarder.

I have my own issues, but have gotten better. I am working on hanging up my bags of clean clothes. I used to always hang up my clothes, but fell behind a while ago.

I'm off to do some vacuuming! Dibs and dabs will make it better!

    😆

The poo pillow is very scary to me. That goes beyond hoarding. It is disgusting to say the least. Letting it sit in the hall that long is very problematic. I don't know that I would stay with my sister if she continues to be like this. Very unsanitary. I feel for you.

Yes, I may have to separate at some point. She is usually not this weird.

I should have just thrown it downstairs and then packed it for the trash. Out of sight, out of mind.

I agree with you. Just dispose of things like this. Your sister is not thinking clearly. If the pillow is very value that see about having professionally cleaned if they will do it. So gross.

In your decluttering have you found good places to take things? I like that you mentioned drawers. It’s amazing how much junk is in them; Old racing metals, watches, jewelry I would never wear, eyeglasses. I had my carpenter come and build me shelves in attic for Christmas decorations. That at least organized it.

I still have quite a bit of storage space as we are getting rid of things. Hubby and I are forcing ourselves to evaluate the usefulness of many things or our attachment to them. I am chiefly looking to find homes for things I am keeping. I have a bunch of drawer space left, some book case space, some wall space, some closet space a little space for collectibles. We have a lot full of scrap to haul off. Some things to sell. Some to donate and this is ongoing.

I am working away slowly. Most energy goes to daily household chores, and whatever energy is left goes to the decluttering. There are small improvements which are better than no improvements.

We hauled off almost 500 pounds of scrap metal and burned a ton of stuff.

500 lbs! That sounds great. It’s funny what taxes us and what doesn’t. I find 2-3 hours in the yard easy and 45 minutes of decluttering exhausting.

I find both fairly exhausting but they are good for me and I know it. LOL.

I thought of you today, and your decluttering! I have thrown out a pair of worn out slippers, a swimsuit, whose elastic as given up on life, and a pair of socks that were just about to have holes punched out in the toe area. I was proud of myself and at the same time embarrassed of having pride (?).

Decluttering is hard. I find it difficult to let go of things for so many reasons so I think it is okay to feel great when I can.

Wow! I am good at helping other ppl declutter, and am better than I used to be to do my own decluttering.

I am training myself not to have so much anxiety about decluttering. It doesn't help me to worry about it when I am doing other chores. 😆

I have trouble getting started. It seems overwhelming at times.

Wish we lived close to each other. It's better when you have a pal with you, at least, that's what I used to do with my sister, Patty, especially while cleaning out closets.

It is overwhelming here! I just take it one cabinet at a time, and on days I have more energy, I throw away more.

I need to do my closets someday. I've misplaced all my comfortable bras, but finally found my underwear!!! 🤣

Glad you got outside to decorate. That's better than decluttering indoors all the time.

The harsh arctic temperatures killed off a lot of our plants. Boo.

Getting colder here too. We only have cold tolerant plants up so far.

Things are a bit warmer here. I finally had the strength to change my bed and put my new sheets and comforter on it.

It made my bedroom feel so much lighter!

Storms are expected later today. I hope u r well with no possibilities of tornadoes.
