So more or less holding my own. If you can remember, one of my weaknesses is dried cherries, and I bought some to include in a gift, forget to do that, and of course, they have been calling my name! For something that sounds healthy, they sure have a lot of calories.
I don't have a lot to share so I'm looking forward to hearing from others. I got the "everything looks as expected" at my visit to the implant specialist last Thursday, so that's good. And I got booster #2 yesterday with no side effects, so check that off my list. But since the past week has been cold and rainy, I've primarily been walking in the mall, reading, trying to get through a few things on my house-related to do list, and I'm finally doing some volunteer work again.
We also got news that two people we've known for years died this past week--one from old age, more or less, and one from complications of Covid. There are no dates for memorials yet, but it has occurred to me that I probably do not have a suit that still fits. So as much as I don't want to shop now, I may have to bite the bullet. It's a lot harder to shop now that so many brick and mortal stores have closed. Lord & Taylor was my go-to, but it went out business everywhere.
My 7-day averages for last week are not that bad, but I'm disappointed that I cannot seem to get my burn up to 1800 a day. I achieved that only one day this past week. But here goes--
Average burn = 1,753
Average steps = 12,487
Average stairs = 13 floors
Got to run to get an errand done before 5 p.m. Hope to check in again a bit later.

Sweet! I'm especially happy with that since we had our Minny trip in there. I tried to still eat what I wanted, when I wanted it, but watched when I really didn't need to eat too. I had beer and drinks and restaurant food but opted for salad instead of fries and not much bread when I could avoid it. I'm proud to say that I'm still on a roll with my daily workouts of at least 30 minutes. Once this darn weather gets nicer, I can't wait to go for longer outside walks. It snowed again last night... yuck, but it'll melt this week. Our province has a flood warning out, but being in the city and away from the river, we'll be fine where we are. Luckily we drove to the states when we did, as that highway will likely be under water in a few days.
The trip was so fun and I'm glad we did it. It sure was nice to travel again, even if it was just a road trip to somewhere we've been. We went to the Mall of America one day and did all of the rides with the kids. Had a blast and that was probably one of the best parts. Another day we went to the outlet malls and did some shopping and we also went to the Minnesota Wild & Pittsburgh Penguins NHL game, which was so cool. Always nice to see new arenas. I do have to say, I was disappointed in a few things of the trip. Normally when we travel to the states, we're excited for cheaper products, but that definitely wasn't the case this time. I guess the prices have skyrocketed everywhere. Normally I'm excited to go to Target because we don't have one here anymore, but it was sooo overpriced. Plus with our Canadian dollar at $0.80, we had to watch. Also, it must have just been the area we were in, but it seemed like no one was happy. The customer service people provided was horrible and no one smiled or seemed happy to be at their jobs. Our first hotel was a complete dive, but we booked a different hotel for the last night by the arena and it was amazing, plus the people were great there. Other than that, it was a positive trip and super great to get away. We were happy to come home to see our pup, who we missed SOOO much. It was our first time not having him overnight with us since we got him.
Sarah - Good to hear that your appointment went well and it was what they expected! Sorry to hear about your friend's passings. It sure seems like there is a lot of that these days, or maybe I just notice it more since I'm getting older.
Ok, time to work. I'm on the clock. Chat later!

So glad you had a good "Minny" trip, Kelly, and yes--prices have gone up everywhere. I have also noticed a dip in customer service, which I suspect is due to a lot of new employees who are struggling to get accustomed to their jobs. I try to just smile and be friendly regardless and hope for better days. It's great that you're on a roll with regular exercise and your post was a reminder that intake is key. You also reminded me that just little changes (salad instead of fries) can make a big difference. I am trying to think through my impulses to grab a cookie, put another pat of butter on something, etc. One not so good thing about having this implant in progress is that I was told to avoid seeds, and berries are my favorite fruits and the thing that I often use to combat the urge to eat something sweet.
While you have snow, we have non-ending rain and chilly weather. But I'll take this before hot and humid. Unfortunately, I'm doing volunteer work tonight from 7 until 9 and the Nat's opening game was postponed from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. because the rain is supposed to stop sometime around 5 or 6. So I will have to tape the game and make sure I don't listen to the radio or talk to anyone who might be listening to the game.
Today I am walking less and walking earlier because of a virtual doctor's appointment at 12:30. The timing is bad, but I really need to check this off my health to-do list. So, I had just a few minutes to drop in here before I have to leave. Hopefully, Sheesh and Lois will check in soon. Have a great day!

Oh boy, vacation is showing on the scale! We had such a wonderful time! I cannot believe how great it felt to be on vacation just the two of us with nothing to do but have fun. We played golf, went INTO RESTAURANTS to eat, browsed local art galleries, read books on the beach and by the pool, did some snorkeling, shopped, and just all around enjoyed ourselves. Kelly, the service at Cheeseburgers in Paradise in Lahaina was sub par, but Lahaina Grill was fabulous and the service was wonderful. . It was very expensive though. We did it as a late anniversary dinner, and it was amazing. I had a Hawaiian fish called Monchong . . wow, really good. Our condo was further south in Wailea, Maui. . so beautiful.
Kelly, I'm so glad you had a nice vacay! The mall of America sounds great . . we'll have to visit someday. And I'm so impressed with your sticking to your eating plan! (I wish I had done better, lol). Keep up the great job you're doing. I know what you mean about prices, here and in Hawaii too. I think fuel prices make everything more expensive.
Sarah, I'm glad you're getting health things checked off. And your steps, stairs, and calorie burn is great! And, hurray, baseball season is back! I'll be rooting for your Nats too. Hubby and I are watching the Masters Golf Tournament this weekend, but on Saturday we're flying to Arizona for the memorial service for hubby's brother on Sunday. I'm so exhausted . . we flew the red eye flight back from Maui and I can hardly stay awake. I also had my second booster shot yesterday, and my trainer today. I am so wiped out.
You'll never believe it ladies, but I won the NCAA Tournament pool we entered. I only did a little research, and the rest was just dumb luck. It's a pool hubby's old company does, and some of our family entered also, so it was fun to follow. With Kansas winning, I won $235. But, the best part is I beat hubby, ha ha ha!
I hope you all have a good weekend. I'll check back Monday. Lois, hope you will post an update soon.

Happy Friday Ladies!!
Ok..so I wrote this incredibly long diatribe of my woes, trials, tribulations, and general sadness - hoping to purge my system. Hubby and I have been super depressed. Daughter is back with her hubby and house is super quiet. Mom is at rest, we're working on settling the last of the accounts (picked up the death certificates this morning). Now I think I can move forward.
My back has been out for a few weeks, so I've been to the chiro every other day for the past week. I was supposed to head to Cali for the services for our friend's parents this morning. But couldn't travel with the pain I'm in. Ice packs are my friend right now.
Sarah - I'm sorry I wasn't able to jump in and respond. My thoughts and prayers have been with you in all areas.
Kelly - Great vacation! And yes, I think customer service all around has declined. No one wants to work anymore. And the fuel prices is causing everything to go up everywhere. It's kind of stinky at the moment.
Sheesh - pack light, breathable clothes, we're in the 90's in Phoenix already. I wish you were coming out here for better reasons. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family this weekend. Your vacation in Hawaii sounds like a wonderful time. Woot woot on the NCAA pool.
OK. So obviously I haven't been working out, can barely walk without back pain and shooting pain down my right thigh. With it being just hubby and I again, we're back to ordering from Pita Jungle (hummus, veggies etc.). Today is poke for lunch and then mahi mahi tacos for dinner. I still haven't ordered general groceries for the house. No eggs, bread etc. Maybe I'll get that done this weekend. Hubby leaves for Las Vegas Tuesday for the week. He'll be home Easter Sunday night sometime. So I'll have all next week to get my head in the game and start doing something for me. Maybe some meal planning can happen too.

The calm before the storm here today. He's beautiful outside and sunny and the snow is melting like crazy. Birds are singing. Tomorrow evening, it'll be a whole other story. We're supposed to be in for a crazy winter storm and are expecting anywhere between 30-80cms of snow!! WTF Ugh. Oh well.. it is what it is. Got the shovels ready and snow blower just in case. Flashlights, water, etc. in case power goes out. All that jazz.
On another note, Shawn and I are both sick. We've tested 3 times, on different days and they all came back negative. I guess colds do still exist. I'm on the mend now, as it's the first day I can breathe through my nose without meds. Shawn's voice is in and out and he has a bit of a dry cough. His symptoms were different than mine, so that's kind of weird. At least this storm is going to hit when we're stuck at home anyway and at least I can still work from home.
Glad to hear you had such a good trip Sheesh! Again.. super jealous
Sarah, yes berries are my go to snack when I need something sweet too. With a little whipped cream
Lois, so great to see you post and loved to hear the positivity in your note, despite everything you guys have gone through lately and being so depressed. Day after day, it'll get easier and easier. Glad to hear you're going to take some time and do something just for yourself.

We got back yesterday . . we were both exhausted and emotionally drained. Hubby is a bit depressed for sure. It was a very lovely memorial, it was at the Arrowhead Country Club, and so nice. I helped her set up with the flowers, photos, food, etc. in the morning, and then went back for the open house from 1 to 4 pm. Her niece had prepared a video, his favorite music was played, and an "open mic" was provided for anyone who wanted to say something. A lot of people had great stories that highlighted the amazing sense of humor he had, including his grandchildren . . so sweet. His wife, step son, and my hubby had a tough time getting through their remarks, and a lot of his friends came up to hubby to say how similar they look to each other. It was lovely. I'm not sure what she will do with his ashes, but she's not ready to let them go just yet. She's definitely cycling through all the emotions of grief, including anger, right now mostly at cancer.
We flew into SLC amid wind bringing in the big late snow storm we always seem to get in the spring. Luckily we got home before it started coming down. It must have snowed all night because there is at least 5 inches in the yard, and more may come today, so Kelly, I am there with you. The things I'm so over at this point . . death, winter, and Covid! I guess we continue to muddle through as best we can.
Lois, I was thinking about you so much all weekend while in Phoenix. I know you and yours are dealing with the same feelings, and I truly sympathize. When I feel down about all those I've lost, I TRY to think about what they would hope for in life, for themselves and me. And, then I try to do that. It's so hard, but I often think of that poem by Longfellow "A Psalm of Life", and it helps me.
Last night I had a sore throat, and this morning it's not much better, my sinuses feel swollen and I have a headache. It might be all the airplane travel, masks, and changes in climates, weather, and time zones, but I think we'll test for Covid before we're around family here for Easter. Hubby thinks we should wait until Thursday to do a home test. Anyway, I'm not feeling great, so I'm not sure I'll resume working out today . . maybe tomorrow. But, the thing I've learned the hard way in the past is that I have to resume eating well right away. That is most important. I can't "burn off" the fat with exercise. Exercise is for cardio health, muscle toning, bone health, mental health. Yes, it helps burn calories and build muscle, but there is no way to lose fat without eating right and in deficit. I can lose weight with a good diet, but not with more exercise. Especially at my age, lol.
I don't know if I mentioned that I hurt my foot a few weeks ago walking on the treadmill with the incline up. Something kind of popped in the joint where the middle toes connect to the foot, it swelled up and was so painful when I walked. I stayed off it or did low impact moves, iced, elevated, but I was limping a bit and it started affecting my knee. So, I have a doctor appointment tomorrow to get it checked. It's feeling much better, so I just want to keep the apt to see if there are any fractures. Walking on the wet part of the beach seemed to really help it feel better . . wish I could always do that, lol. I ordered some "Orthofeet" shoes . . I'll let you know how they feel. Gladly, they don't look like "old person" shoes, ha ha!
Sarah, I'm so sorry about the loss of two more people in your life. Wow, it's been a tough couple of years. I hope your doctor appointments were all good. You're amazing with your commitment to walking and moving! Keep up the great work with it. . I've learned how important mobility is!
