I'm officially down 10lbs!!! Woot woot!
Unfortunately I still have this cold and am having a hard time with my breathing, but I'm getting my workouts in, just not anything crazy high level. Shawn is still struggling a bit too. Even though we have tested multiple times and it says negative, I still think we have covid. We go through bouts where we're just exhausted. I still have the cough and sometimes I'm stuffy. Hopefully it doesn't linger much longer. It's already been over a week.
Our storm finally hit us this morning. I sure hope we don't get as much snow as they originally predicted. It looks pretty nasty out there right now. I'm lucky I can work from home. They have kind of blown this storm out of proportion though and have really put the fear mongering out there. Stores were packed with people, with little groceries to be found, gas stations were lined up like crazy and people were panicking. It's like they think we've never seen snow before. Like I said, hopefully it's just over blown.
Sheesh - Are you feeling better? Was it just a tickle in the throat?

I'm more or less staying the same, which is not a surprise. As Sheesh pointed out, intake is what really tips the scale in either direction and I'm pretty much staying in the same area on average.
But you, Kelly, are making real progress. I am so happy for you! I know how seeing progress lifts our spirits and it sounds like with the cold symptoms that you can certainly use that. I hope you and Shawn are both feeling your normal well selves soon.
I am going to be quick here because I have a crushing headache and need to get down to help hubby. He tried smoking a pork shoulder using the ceramic egg-shaped grill (since we no longer have a smoker) and after babying this thing all day long, grease built up in the bottom of the grill and caused a scary grease fire. He thinks we can salvage some of the bar-b-que, but I have no idea if it damaged that expensive grill!
But I think the headache is from being on the phone for more than an hour with an Xfinity representative trying to figure out why we pay for HBO Max but have only been able to access it once. It took me forever to get a human. Cable companies are awful for that. None the options they offer when you call match what you need, and eventually they hang up on you. I'm not sure how I finally got to someone, but fixing the problem was a long process that we had to go through multiple times. This poor agent was in India, I'm sure, and he probably thinks I'm a crazy lady because just as we were getting to the end, hubby ran in cursing because of the fire and things were a bit chaotic for a few minutes.
Anyway, I will be back later tonight or tomorrow to further chat, but I wanted to make sure that I got something posted today.0 -

I COULD pull up most the weights but I'm just not caring that much. I'm still below my highest and I'm going to keep moving forward.
Kelly - CONGRATULATIONS!!! What an accomplishment. That has got to be a great motivator! Picking the right foods and quantity is the way you need to do it. I think Sheesh also said it, and I've heard it from every trainer and nutritionist - you can't out exercise your intake. You have to modify your meals to modify your health and weight. I am not surprised by the way people are panicking. We do keep a few cases of water at the ready at all times. And honestly, as long as the generator works for the refrigerator and freezer and my propane tanks are full, once I buy a new grill (totally forgot mine doesn't work right now), I will have a way to cook. Otherwise, we'll unplug the refrigerator/freezer and use the pressure cooker for an hour and then plug them back in...yep,...that's how it will have to be.. sorry.... We won't be in the crowd to get the last off of the shelves. And we keep spare gas at the house. My dad taught us to do that. We have a pool to shower and use the water to flush toilets (we've had to do that shortly after we moved in when our neighborhood got hit with a microburst). But people are strange they need 20 bags of rice when they won't eat but one in a week. I don't get it, but I guess it's human nature. Good luck and I hope it doesn't come in as hard or last as long.
Sheesh - you were literally about a mile from me when you were here. We live just up the street from the club. I wish you were here for better reasons. You were in my thoughts and I kept hoping it all would be ok and it wouldn't be too tough on your hubby. It stinks that you are not feeling well after everything. I agree with hubby to wait until Friday to do the test. They say minimum of 5 days from possible exposure. Load up on Zinc and D3 is what my dr. had us do...Airbornne as well. I'm not sure it helped but we did it. You don't want to risk getting anyone else sick either.
Sarah - my heart is going out to you. We're losing people like crazy. And like Sheesh - I'm done with it! Honestly, I can't handle any more right now. So big hugs.
So hubby left yesterday for Vegas. He'll be home Sunday evening sometime. So I'm on my own. I called the dr. about my back/hip pain yesterday. He ordered x-rays - which I had them done this morning. Just to make sure nothing wonky is going on. I see him on Tuesday. He called in Celebrex to see if it helps. I took my first one a little bit ago. I was going to say that I'm feeling a bit better, and then as I'm sitting here a piercing pain shoots through my hip and low back. It's close to ice time again.
I made the mistake of sending hubby to Costco alone. I had healthy choices on my list (veggie platter, some cheese and eggs). He also brought home carrot cake muffins/cupcakes. Whatever you want to call them. I LOVE carrot cake. I can say no to the blueberry muffins and stuff like that but not the carrot cake. So I've had 1/2 a muffin/cupcake too often...UGH I just finished the last of it. So I had a total of 2 over the past couple of days. I know that's not huge, it's just I want to make healthier choices.
I cancelled dinner plans with my friend last night. My back was hurting too much. There was no way I could have driven 1/2 an hour, sat at the restaurant and visited for and hour or two and then drive home. Just no way. We've been rescheduling since Jan as each of us have had a conflict at one week or another. Since I can't even walk at the moment, I really have to watch my in take. I'm hoping I've got it together in my brain.
Hubby and I still think we're going to hear mom shuffle down and ask "Have you eaten"...or "Hellooooo Good Morning" (no matter what time of day she came down). Neither of us have the energy to do what needs to be done around here. I have been keeping her rose bushes watered and they are flowering. That makes us smile. I have the Thank You cards addressed, but haven't done the personal notes yet - I'm hoping to get to those this week.
Goals for this week...watch my intake and take care of myself better.0 -
Well yesterday we got around 10 inches of snow. Supposed to get around 4 more today. It is what it is. It's definitely not the "storm of the decade" like they predicted, but at least we were prepared. The kids are loving not having to go to school. It's supposed to be remote learning, but really they just have tasks to do on their own, which is boring. They managed to get outside last night and play street hockey for a bit. Ella dresses up as the goalie and Tyler takes shots on her. Glad they have fun with each other like that, especially being 12 and 14.
Thanks for the congrats! It's definitely all in what I'm eating... and how much. I've noticed I don't need as much to be full anymore. The kids had spaghetti last night and I had zucchini noodles with the sauce. Simple choices like that make a huge difference for me.
Lois - Sorry your back and hip are hurting! Do you know what caused it or is it just one of those things? Maybe some simple stretching would help? Definitely ice, but it's never easy or comfortable putting ice on your back. That's very sweet that your MIL's roses are blooming. Definitely brings a smile when you guys think about her I'm sure. It made me smile when you said she used to say good morning, no matter what time of day. Enjoy the time with yourself while hubby is gone to Vegas. Freeze the carrot cake and muffins.. maybe they won't be as tempting lol
Sarah - Oh my goodness.. Crazy about the fire! Hopefully you managed to save the meat and your cooker. Ugh, dealing with customer service anything over the phone gives me a headache. I think I'm going to have to call our phone company today to cancel our home phone that we never use, and I'm already dreading it.
Sheesh - Thinking about you. I hope you guys are feeling better!0 -

Ugh. . but not unexpected with everything going on here. Yesterday the x-ray of my foot revealed a broken bone that has a big "callous" of bone over it due to healing. I looked back through my workouts on my Apple Watch to remember the workout that I heard the pop or crack, and it was on March 19 so, much to the doctor's dismay, I've been walking around Maui, golfing, Phoenix, doing weight training, etc. on a broken foot for about a month! He said I must have a high pain tolerance . . yeah, I've been a woman my whole life, lol! He says I must stay off it for 4 weeks now to let it heal properly. He threatened to put me in a boot, but I promised I would stay off my foot. No weight bearing exercise . . damn it! He said I could do seated or lying exercises, upper body weights (seated), recumbent bike, etc. Limited walking (around house only), no treadmill, etc. Really bad timing since I wanted to get back to HIIT and reducing my weight. (By the way, the workout I was doing was the treadmill on the highest incline and pushing myself with the speed . . don't do that, hah)
I'm also dealing with what I think is a cold, I don't feel too horrible, but I'm going to test again Friday for Covid, and if it's negative my daughter's family will come for Easter here. I'm going to make a pork loin with a sauce I make, salad, and cheesy potatoes . . all easy so I won't be on my foot much. Daughter will bring dessert.
Lois, thanks for your thoughts for hubby and me. He seems to be doing better today, and I'm actually fine. I talked to my niece yesterday about the loss of her father. She hasn't experienced much loss, and it's very painful for her and her kids . . my main concern is for her. It's such a hard life experience to lose a parent, as you know. I hope you do lots of nice things for yourself while hubby is away.
Kelly . . CONGRATULATIONS!! You are really focused and on track. I'm sure you and Shawn will be taking a trip to a beach or pool somewhere in the not too distant future, and won't it feel so great to be fit? I'm happy for you. And, whoa, what a storm you got! It sounds like you and your kids make the best of it though. It's still cold here too . . we can't control the weather. . so onward.
Sarah, what the heck . . a fire?! I'm glad that wasn't worse. And customer service makes my blood pressure go up. What I've noticed is that they want you to do everything online, which is impossible. Sometimes you need to talk to a real person. And, by the way, when you're maintaining, you're not gaining. Great job.
I returned the OrthoFeet shoes . . they were just too stretchy and not enough support for workouts. I asked the doctor what shoes he recommends for workouts, and he mentioned New Balance and Hoka. He said to get a stiff sole. I've had at least 4 pair of Hoka shoes, so I ordered another yesterday. I think I waited too long to replace my shoes for the treadmill, and that might have contributed to the broken bone. He said they break down quicker than you think, especially if you work out a lot.
I hope you all have a safe and Happy Easter.0 -
Happy Friday, everyone. Sorry to be later than I thought getting back here. For some reason lately, it's harder for me to get up to my desk, and I much prefer posting on my laptop with my desk monitor than trying to use my phone.
Sheesh I thought about you and your hubby and SIL and her family last weekend. There have just been too many deaths lately. I suspect that it's especially hard to lose a sibling. I feel like as we age, we lose many who knew us in our youth, so it's losing part of our history. I am sooo sorry about your foot. I got a good chuckle about being female all your life. It does seem like women's high pain tolerance is not always in our best interest. And I'm taking to heart your comment about not wearing shoes for too long. Thanks for mentioning that and reminding us how you got the injury. I need shoes badly and have just put it off, but I think I'll bite the bullet and do that very soon. I am glad that you are able to avoid the "dreaded blue bootie."
I'm with Sheesh, Lois. Take advantage of being alone in the house and focus on being good to yourself. A backache can be just the worst and I hope the Celebrex helps. I haven't taken it for years, but when I did, it was very effective. I will be sending healing and comforting thoughts your way.
Kelly, I'm glad you didn't get the snow of the century or anything close to it. Hopefully spring is around the corner for us all. We go from winter to spring to almost summer and then back to winter in a 48-hour time span around here. I do dread summer and heat, even though I like to swim outside. I might make a good Canadian! And by the way, the ceramic grill survived!
Well, I'm off to walk and then run errands. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. We are going to have Easter dinner with some friends, but other than that, it's baseball (Nats are rebuilding and probably will not do very good this year, but there's always a little hope) and our usual weekend activities.
Before I forget, here's my stats for last week. My goal for this week is to minimize between meal snacks. My weight has jumped up a full pound in the past 2 days.
7-day averages
Kcals burned = 1,799 (So close! I actually burned 1800 kcals 5 days last week)
Steps = 12,303
Stairs = 11 flights

Just checking in and I see that everyone must be really busy. I hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter. It does not feel like spring here yet. Yesterday we had rain and sleet, which is not what one expects on the 18th of April. But I took advantage of the "too nasty to be outside" weather and gathered all the documents I need to apply for Social Security, which I can draw come August. I now need to create an account and then I guess I hope for the best!
I also wanted to vent a little bit. My weight has crept up about a pound and a half (131.4 today) since our last weigh-in, and as I look at my food and activity records, I'm not seeing the cause. It's frustrating. I managed to not eat a single piece of Easter candy and I passed on my friend's lovely desserts, and this is my reward! Arghhhh
Anyway, just passing by before I head out to run errands and grocery shop. My BFF called from California earlier and I wasn't able to get to the phone. She left a message saying she has the day off to take care of appointments and will call me again in the afternoon. I sense something is up, and I worry about her because she is a breast cancer survivor. Worry. I have a Ph.D. in that!
Hope everyone has a good Tuesday.0 -
Well, I still have this stupid cold. I tested again yesterday and it's still negative, so I guess colds still do really exist. I felt a bit better yesterday and more better today, so hopefully tomorrow is the day. Fingers crossed. 2 weeks to have a cold is ridiculous, but I guess after not being sick for 3 years, that's what happens?
The kid's Mom has covid, so they've been with us non-stop. Luckily she's battling through and has managed to almost get rid of all of her symptoms. Scary to see China locking down again. I sure hope it doesn't get like that here again or I might lose it completely, With it still being full on winter here, all of our moods have been pretty blah lately.
Sheesh - Oh no!! That's crazy your foot was broken for that long. Hopefully it heals properly and you're staying off of it. I know it must be difficult.
Sarah - I feel you about the easter eggs and desserts. I have been diligent and when I stepped on the scale this morning, I wasn't too happy either. Hopefully it was just retaining too much salt or something, so I'm going to pound back the water today.0
