Hi, I volunteered to do the 5th, which is supposed to remind you ( us) that exercise alone is not enough to lose weight.
OK, that's a given. The best exercise for weight loss is keeping busy and keeping those hands away from the food!
I'm writing this while away in my motorhome, using the 4g on my phone so this is going to be short.
How do your keep busy and away from those tempting treats? I brought some treats away with me and they are calling out to me.7 -
I rather like the "ninja sneak-attack" approach to increasing general-activity (over and above the UAC tracked "20 minutes intentional activity-exercise of choice".) TRY to be "inefficient" through your day. Take extra trips to carry in a load from the car instead of carrying in all bags in one go; use the farther-away bathroom; squats or leglifts (or laps around the kitchen island or practice balancing on one foot holding on the the counter) while waiting for the microwave to finish reheating the coffee. Etc Etc. The amount burned is too small to track, yet a mini-burn is still a burn and adds up over a month or a year. The magic of compound interest!
For the not-putting food-in-mouth bit .... do you maybe have / could you try a hobby where sticky or greasy hands would be counter productive? Any hand craft (knitting / crocheting / mending or sewing); most artsy-crafts be it some kind of cutting, or pasting, or assembly ... scrap-booking, jigsaw puzzles lego or 5D diamond painting ...
Or alternatively something where your hands are GONNA be dirty in a way where you wouldn't want to be also handling food (gardening, chopping & piling wood, something in woodworking where there is plenty of sawdust involved, or mechanical where there might be machine oil etc)4 -

I know from your intro that your starting point is somewhere in the "SW of the UK" .... where are you motorhoming to? I got on a train in Hampshire and traveled to Cornwall - Penzance & Land's End once, years ago. Anywhere around there?2 -
Yes x3 and back on track. Great topic @lesdart180 looking forward to hearing everyone's responses. Xo8

Navigated a hotel buffet breakfast this morning and was shocked when I tracked what I thought were conservative choices. Thankfully I did a very long walk/run early this morning.9 -
@BMcC9 I'm in North Devon, between Barnstaple and Ilfracombe. Only 3 nights then back home to Somerset. It's less than 2 hours driving time but feels like a proper holiday, very peaceful here.7

I haven't been to Cardiff for years but I have relatives in Monmouthshire. We had a holiday in West Wales last year and we're going to a campsite near Rhyader* in a few weeks time.
Did I spell that right? On the river Wye.

My report for today ( Thursday 5th).
Lots of exercise again, sightseeing. Over 16,000 steps.
Breakfast was brought from home, weighed and logged.
Lunch was a sandwich, pretty sensible.
Then I had an ice cream - ok so far.
Dinner was in the restaurant on site, main course sensible but then I had cheesecake for dessert!
I haven't logged dinner so another pass day.
We travel home tomorrow and I will be back on the straight and narrow for a few days.

@lesdarts180 Keeping hands busy helps, and I’m into craft/art/gardening which all distract me from snacking during the day.7 -
Yes for 3

Frustration with the scale I take measurements. I have lost 3 inches from around my belly button the last 3 months. Yay. I am not crazy just don't look at the scale. With snacks either I try to leave room or pre plan them.6 -

@lesdarts180 I will put the treat/snacks outside in the garage fridge. That way they are not calling me every time I open the fridge or cupboard. I am making progress on not eating my husband's and daughter's snacks although 3 weeks ago I ate everyone's treats before they had a chance to taste it themselves (*mental head slap*)... But overall I am much better at resisting.
Yes x 3 today for me.4 -
Tracked and logged walked at lunch almost 3mph trying my hand at some race or speed walking depending on which one you prefer. I worked on leg length and arm form today my son thinks I nuts walking around the house that way, I thought since I don’t run just maybe this could be fun.
I stay away by doing some dirty outdoor work or playing guitar no one wants smudges on the fretboard.4 -
@lesdarts180 nice opener made me think a bit. Love that you are always off on an adventure!
@TerriRichardson112 good plan for snacking.3 -

I don´t have a strategy for keeping my hands busy, other than that I use a glass of water for a substitute for snacks at the movies or at parties where others are snacking. The habits I am building are 1. I generally avoid snacking unless there are special circumstances. 2. At home I only eat seated at the kitchen table and when not at home I only eat at a restaurant table or table of the person who invited me. I no longer take emergency food with me when I am not going to be away for many hours.

@ideas2 interesting that you mentioned eating at the table I wonder how many of us eat elsewhere in the house I know I usually eat in the living room to watch the news.1

I read this excellent (and funny) book years ago and some of it really stuck with me. He is person who did research about eating behavior and how much more is consumed, with less satisfaction, when we are doing other things. I highly recommend it. https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/mindless-eating-why-we-eat-more-than-we-think_brian-wansink/250624/item/3921357 If you search for his name you can also find summaries of some of his investigations like this one https://news.cornell.edu/stories/2005/11/big-portions-influence-overeating-much-taste-even-when-food-tastes-lousy-cornell which found that people will mindlessly consume large amounts of 14 day old stale popcorn and not even realize it is stale if they are watching a movie.
He is very funny also--- I think reading the book is way more effective than just seeing the summaries of some of his findings.3 -

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes. Walked during break and going to get stretching done tonight. When I was walking today I noticed my right hip was hurting. So I had the chiropractor pull my leg to adjust it and it barely moved. Need to go back neck week b

It depends on my mood regarding snacks. I decided this week I was not going to have any snacks for break and I have been fine. But if someone brings a snack I am tempted. If I don’t start then I am ok.
I like the reminder to eat at the table. I have also brushed my teeth to avoid eating a snack.5 -

I don’t buy treats. I have no sweet tooth. My snacks are nuts, dried fruit or gluten free crackers. If I feel super hungry I may add prosciutto and/or cheese to the crackers but I generally consider my evening snack a mini meal that I eat because I’m hungry or too low on calories.3 -
@jmu1965 nive idea sometimes it works for me1

@LazyBlondeChef NO sweet tooth!! OMG glad you have a system that works for you1
