Well, folks - the tallies for week 2 are done, and not too pretty. Our very own @ashleycarole86 is top winner (again!!) but otherwise we were on the gaining side of the pool, and the worst of all Let's get logging and pull out of the losing by gaining trend! We are not alone in this, so I'm rooting for all the teams to track, eat those veggies, and feel amazing soon.
Sunday and Monday weigh-ins due:
@Terytha
@BlissfulK
@DD265
@MoonlitMuse

@ashleycarole86 congratulations on being the biggest loser!!! Wow, that sounds like a long ride!!! Enjoy. My new workouts our from Beachbody. I am going to do A Little Obsessed for 2 weeks, then go into 80 Day Obsession. It's a mix of weights and bands. I have done it before, but it has been awhile. Yesterday was a core workout and forgot how much I love it!!! 80 Day Obsession has several 60 minute workouts, which is hard for me during the school year.
@conleywoods you are doing so well with your diet. I am so proud of you. Hopefully the well gets fixed and your father in law can relax. I have 10 days left!!! This month has been so fun, I am really going to miss (most) of my class. We go back Aug 1st.
@jugar I ate better yesterday. I went to the store, need to do some food prep and I will be ready for a successful week.👊
@eggfreak Hugs! I know you are going through a lot.
@BlissfulK I am trying to do 16:8 right now. I have not read the latest research, but at one point, they did say it can throw a women's hormones out of each if they do more then 16 hours.2 -
@KellyBgetsfit OMG 10 DAYS!!! We have 5 weeks left with 19 work days for me. I have a couple personal days I either need to use or lose. I can't wait to be done with this year! Love the kids but am ready to move on from all of the weird program changes we made this year. Next year is already planned to have a bigger variety of classrooms so that is very good. It's always hard to say goodbye to a fun group of kids. Glad you are getting back on track. I have definitely felt better since getting back on track but it takes a lot of effort to do so when tired. You got this Kelly!2

So much news! It is great to welcome @once_mas back to our team. We'll all try to be inspiring and help you get back on track and feeling strong. We might not all be getting as strong as @ashleycarole86 - biking in the Rockies, hitting a personal record, it is going to be amazing. And @KellyBgetsfit - your workout plan also sounds fabulous.
We need to work as hard on our eating plans - of course we all know that, but it is the hardest piece to keep consistent enough to get regular results. I like @happimess01 Sam's plan to avoid unplanned binges (I like to call them free meals or days - it sounds less scary ) for a specific amount of time. Planning in a certain amount of "unwise" eating can prevent rebellion. Defining how far overboard to go in advance is smart. Not always easy to stick to, but smart!
I am having such a good time here with my daughter and her friends and horses. I have had 2 short rides on Jasper, the 3 year-old Appaloosa who might be mine in the Fall. He has only been sat on a couple of times before this week, and he is taking to being ridden like a champ. Today he trotted under saddle for the first time, and he did really well! Yesterday was the first time for riding around without being led, and starting to learn the languages of leg and hand. Of course all my daughter's work with him on the lunge and getting used to the saddle and bridle first without a rider has obviously been well done! I also rode another horse today - I'm going to be sore tomorrow for sure.
Steps are sure easy to build up here - the pastures are gigantic and often the horses are far far away! I enjoy just wandering out there to hang out with them. So here are my steps for the week:
Sunday - 9443
Monday - 11,320 + 25 Pilates + 45 exercise bike
Tuesday - 8466 + 15 Pilates
Wednesday - 9423 (travel day - ugh!)
Thursday - 15,404
Friday - 14,407
Saturday - 17,992
Birthday dinner tonight (my girl turning 30 tomorrow!) and more birthday food at home tomorrow. I had better keep walking this much...5 -
@jugar @ashleycarole86 I'd like to go on the support team (weight and steps) for a couple of weeks please. Will confirm when I'm jumping back in to normal.
I'll catch up on posts tomorrow, hope everyone has had a good weekend.4 -
I forgot to share this week's workout schedule with you all:
Monday - GrowWithJo Cardio workout
Tuesday - HR12W2.0 Day 18 (resuming Heather Robertson's 12 week program)
Wednesday - Forest Walk / Yoga
Thursday - Yoga
Friday - HR12W2.0 Day 19
Saturday - Yoga
Night night all.4 -

@jugar I hate to add to gains!😬
I’m in the middle of researching lifestyle change and trying to figure out ketogenic diet with IF. Mainly what I’ll be eating and how to calculate macros for meals. I wasn’t tracking for past few weeks so I had no idea the amount of calories I was eating! I was using 1/3 to 1/2 coconut oil to prepare a meal. I’m like it’s good fat that will burn, but I haven’t trained myself to IF daily yet and was consuming more carbs than I thought, so the extra fat did not burn😂
I’m going to take it slower and not overwhelm the transition with doing some many things at once. Going to master calculating macros for recipes on a ketogenic diet before starting lifestyle change with IF.
I just started MFP Premium that calculates total Net Carbs for recipes which was an eye opener to why I gained and makes it sooo much easier to calculate recipes! I should have progress for next week
I’m a ketogenic newbie, Sorry again about this week!!

I also forgot to weigh in before eating, but still it’s def a gain. I don’t think it would add 5lbs3 -
@conleywoods Hope you got that relaxing day you were needing today! It's amazing how much other people's anxiety can impact us. We don't even have to be the main sufferer of it to feel it. I'm aware at times my anxiety puts Brad in a bad space because he has to watch me suffer through it from the sidelines.. hard for someone who wants to fix it. Imagine it must be tiring for your FIL to go through days like that feeling the way he does. Hope everything finishes on schedule by Tuesday and you can put it behind you.
@KellyBgetsfit Thanks for the info.. I was wondering what A Little Obsessed was in your news feed, sounds like a fun program! I have some resistance bands I'd like to use for something different - good reminder.
@conleywoods @KellyBgetsfit Wow - hard to believe you're talking about the school year wrapping up! What will summer hold for each of you this year?
@jugar Hope your daughter's birthday dinner was great. Lovely to hear you're enjoying your visit and enjoying some horse time. Your visits with her always sound so lovely.
@DD265 Thanks for the heads up - noted!
@YinxFed Just love reading "forest walk" - sounds so peaceful and lovely. Sounds like a great plan, thanks for the Sunday motivation!
5/14 exercise:

Helicopter pics!!Great day, and I felt thankful. There was a group weigh-in to make sure we were cleared for the flight, and I said to Brad afterwards it's SO nice to be at a weight where that stuff no longer worries me. I've spent my whole adult life avoiding and dodging situations just like that, so I feel very appreciative of it.
The bike ride also went well! Brad's got a bike computer and his read over 100 KM... in fact we cycled into Canmore past the parking lot and back again just to hit what they call a "metric century ride".. but then my Garmin only read 98.96 kilometers. Lol - close enough. It was 4 hours and 8 minutes of cycling. I have to just pinch myself that it's even possible! The scenery was great, we passed two different sets of deer feeding and also a group of elk. Very neat. I was also happy with my improved speed on the gravel bike and how I'm taking to clipping in and out of the pedals. It was a positive day. I am absolutely exhausted but I'm glad we took advantage of the road closure... the freedom of flying down the highway with no worry about cars being around is amazing! I'd never have even dreamt of attempting a ride like that without Brad's encouragement. I think we'll both live longer lives because we found each other. It's a nice feeling.
Just want to echo @jugar and the great job she always does of rallying us when we're struggling! Is there anything the team can help you with?

@ashleycarole86 that helicopter ride looks like fun! And wow...100km biking on the trails!! That sounds like fun with no cars around. I assume there wasn't snow on the ground where you were biking?
Today I planted some zucchini and yellow squash in my garden. I'm pretty sure it will be warm from here on out. This next weekend is forecasted to be 95! 🌞 Any tips from the garden experts here?
My husband and I also started walking in the evenings around our neighborhood. It's a great way to get steps in and just unwind. We were able to walk 1.75 miles tonight. We are slowly adding on, but this is a great way for me to add steps, even on my gym days!4 -
@jugar Glad you are having such an amazing trip and happy birthday to your daughter! Love all the horse pictures and stories too.
@ashleycarole86 What an awesome day you guys had! Looks like a lot of really amazing milestones mixed in there too! Congrats to you guys on a great ride. Summer for us is really laid back since we are all on summer vacation together. We will visit the Oregon coast like every summer and we spend a bunch of time at deer lake. I would like to go to Bozeman, Montana to visit the Museum of the Rockies to see the dinosaur exhibit. The older kids have been but the 7 year old hasn't been yet. Other than that we will go to the cabin which is close to the Canadian border. My husband will definitely job hunt too. I would love it if he moved to the district I work for!
@lauren_989 You have some warm weather for sure! Hope your plants do well!
@BlissfulK Sounds like you are smart to tackle one lifestyle change at a time. It can be a lot to manage sometimes!
Today we caught up on everything that has been put off due to the well and father in law meltdown. We are so excited to go to work tomorrow 🤣🤣 oh my gosh it's been a bummer of a weekend! I have a ton of cookies and doughnuts around the house! Usually I am not tempted but I think the stress contributed to the cravings. I didn't eat them! I stuck to my food plan and added chocolate to the menu for tomorrow. I usually turn to coffee to help reduce cravings. It works like a charm and luckily I metabolize caffeine quickly so I can drink it before bed without issue. I don't know what I will do if that ever changes! I did a 35 minute upper body weight HIIT workout today. I am sore lately but in a good way.

So many things I wanted to comment on and now I can’t remember. Phone is not great for commenting because now I can’t look back.
Glad to read everyone’s news. We went to a beautiful arboretum yesterday and strolled around for a couple hours. Need to get back to logging this week. Only managed half the week last week.

Happy Monday! It's great to catch up on all your news.
@ashleycarole86 that helicopter trip looks like a blast! I am so impressed with you and Brad - what a huge life change you have made with your dedication and excitement about cycling and getting truly fit. WTG!
@DD265 no problem to take a break from the weigh-ins for a couple of weeks or as long as you need. Sometimes a re-set is the best thing. I hope you have time to enjoy pottering about in the garden listening to birdsong and just loving the peaceful happiness of getting your hands into the soil.
@BlissfulK don't you worry about the gain on the team stats - you are learning like crazy! It's just as important to figure out what does not work as what does. The more accurate tracking will certainly help, and you'll be finding all kinds of things that your body reacts well to or not. You are your own experiment, so don't worry about those annoying moments when things are not quite right. Keep on keeping on
@conleywoods I am picturing you blissfully at work. What a crazy weekend! You did great.
@micki48 I saw your beautiful photo with your OH at the arboretum. You look so happy and relaxed - after all the major changes you have been through, I hope things are going smoother and smoother. Hugs to you always!
I'm off to more wandering about in this flat windy land - and more cooking! Party #2 later6 -
Here's my numbers and the crunching:
MFP Calorie Goal: 13,673 (I adjusted my AF to sedentary since I have a desk job, it was overestimating before since I had it set to active for my ADL plus my workouts for the week)
MFP Calorie Intake: 12,181
MFP Prediction: -1,492kcal (-.5lb)
Garmin Calorie Burn: 15,006
Garmin Calorie Intake: 12,181
Garmin Prediction: -2,825kcal (-.8lb)
PW: 141.4
CW: 140.4 (-1lb) Garmin wins again
One thing I really need to work on is being more active on the weekends. It's hard because my fiance gets very....clingy...and diverts my attempts to work out with something else (i.e. instead of doing my long run yesterday, we watched Deuce Bigalo). Saturdays are usually my errand days and this week I went to Kalispell and Big Fork for some shopping in actual civilization (and spent waaaaaay too much) and had dinner with a former intern. It was much needed honestly, but a 2-3 hr drive in each direction doesn't make for much activity.
The week went well with my hypertrophy training and I had some delicious muscle soreness that tells me I'm lifting heavier! I just wish I could fit in all the stuff I want to do throughout the day. Why can't someone just pay me to work out?
@KellyBgetsfit I LOVED 80DO! I still have all my measurements and stats from when I did it. Inches were lost and added in all the right places, but my weight kept going up at the end of each phase, it was definitely muscle so I didn't lament too much. Beachbody has some great workout programs but I refuse to buy into the Shakeology stuff (even though many a friend has tried to get me into it to add clout because of my credentials)
@conleywoods Bozeman is "only" about 4 hours from me! That's not too far in Montana terms lol4 -

No snow on the pathways or road anymore, that's correct! It wasn't very warm though - there were times I felt very chilly! I still got a bit of a sunburn though... forgot sunscreen as my head still isn't in that mode!

Everyone who participated had their name in at least one stat for week 2! Love that
5/15 exercise:
4052 steps + 248 minutes cycling
Needless to say, I took a rest day today Still got my steps because I walked to and from a downtown conference from a cheaper parking lot further away and also took my dog for a walk after supper.
Brad had plans to meet a friend after work for a light ride - they do it more to catch up but he did turn the pedals a bit and he said the only thing that was sore was his butt! LOL
Back downtown for day 2 of a work conference tomorrow! Brad and I work for the same company - we didn't meet at work, in fact we met living in two different provinces, but after he moved here he happened to get his second job in the Calgary area with my same company that I've been at for 15 years. Anyway, we work in two separate areas and in two different buildings now, but we are both at this conference so it's kinda fun to be in together!4 -
I need to work hard on my eating, so I went back to my diary from when I was successful and will try to recreate that. It's just so hard with so much going on, our weekends are kinda full until June, so I think I am going to make June a relaxing month. We did the Beach last weekend, this weekend we have an airshow, so staying at a friends, then the following weekend is Memorial day, so we have parties and such... Ugh, this is so darn hard... LOL5
-
Happy Tuesday!
I can so relate to the "too many parties" @Gidgitgoescrazy - so far we have had 2 birthday parties, a welcome home party, lots of visitors brining yummy things, and some time this week we're going to Lloydminster for Indian food. I think today is going to have to be a seriously careful one!4 -
I am so behind on posts! I was away this weekend and there was just... so much food. and alcohol. I think I am getting to the point where I just don't enjoy drinking? And certainly not a fan of the bloat afterwards nor any kind of hangover. We were staying up so late. This was a friend's law school graduation and I don't know how these students have been sleeping but we were at a house party until after 2am and didn't go to bed until after 3! Help.
So this weigh-in is a doozy and my all-time high which doesn't feel any sort of good. Please let my brain grab onto this and get me going down from here.

Hello and happy Tuesday!
Our pump for the well is fixed and no crazy father in laws were harmed in the process 😇 I don't think any of us have any patience left so we will lay low until we recharge our emotional batteries! My new dishwasher comes this Friday and then the house will be back to normal. My father in laws birthday is in a couple days so we will have to get his party figured out soon. He loves cats and last weekend I tried to get him to go to a kitten party at one of the shelters but I couldn't get him to go. He was very distracted.
Last two days all of my meals have been ok except dinner. I still hit my macros but I had something else planned and no water at the house resulted in pizza and salad one night and sandwiches and kale chips tonight. I double cut the pizza and found myself satisfied after 1 slice, Woo-hoo 😀 I did a HIIT workout yesterday but I have nothing left tonight so taking the night off. I need new workout shoes for indoors. The new pair is ordered. I feel a bit of plantar facitis starting.
I'm having emotional cravings for chocolate tonight. Having my evening coffee to see if that helps. It usually does the trick and I think it's going to be a 2 cup night. I always buy the endangered species chocolate bars and they donate to save the forest/animals. That little voice is telling me "it's not JUST eating chocolate! It's saving the planet...it's responsible to eat the chocolate " I'm telling my little voice there is a good chance my chocolate is harvested by child labor and it's more responsible to NOT eat the chocolate!4 -
Evening all!

Not sure I have a lot in the way of articles or such to provide, but I did like this one:
https://medium.com/@flabstofitness/why-motivation-is-crap-discipline-is-your-only-chance-at-success-3ecd00b8b090
Highlight-
So when you’re looking to change something in your life:
· Let motivation inspire you, but don’t expect it to stick around.
· Focus on building disciplined actions around that new thing.
· Get specific in what “discipline” will look like for your specific goal.
Do things every day to get yourself in your habits for the way you want to live. Make those things second nature. The things that make you successful, whatever that looks like, will be so much easier if they become things you just do automatically.
Add more only when the existing habits and base foundational skills have been set.4 -
So yesterday turned into a good day, I didn't exercise though.
I was having a tough day at work, I don't have any patience with myself and I am my own worst enemy. I was really feeling quite incompetent because I made a few mistakes, and overlooked some things.
Then I went to the old old job to help them with some payroll/ job costing issues they were having, and it was exactly what I needed to know I got this, It's simply a learning curve. I'm not a dummy, I just don't know everything yet, so it's all good !
Today is going to be a good day also, I am going to get my hair done after work, so no exercise tonight also, I think I will shoot for it on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Then Sunday I will take the day off, but my goal is to make it a perfect food week... Food is 80% of this, and I was so worried about making sure I exercised, that I kinda slacked on the food, so I think for the next two weeks, I am going to concentrate on food..
Have a great day !5 -

@jugar can I please switch my weigh in day to Thursdays going forward? I'm feeling the need to piggyback on the sweat-loss from my Wednesday night hockey games this summer. My pendulum weight just keeps swinging around. I was 2lbs lighter a couple of days ago. I think switching to Thursdays will help my mental state about it all.
I remember a previous discussion on discipline VS motivation. It was great! It's discipline that makes us get up and go to work everyday, not motivation so why is it so hard to just be disciplined with food choices. I struggle with that mindset. I know I lose weight and digest better when I have a smoothie for breakfast instead of an egg sandwich. I know this! But am I disciplined enough to follow through like I am with waking up and going to work? Why not? It really shouldn't be any different. I want to receive a paycheck, hence I work. I want to digest smoothly, hence I should have the smoothie. Why is there a disconnect? Discipline to eat what I should instead of what I want is the adult thing to do.
No one says I can't have that egg sandwich for lunch instead!2
