I'm a slow eater partly because many years ago when I was young and the business I was in I ate fast to get back to work. When I began to diet years later and changed jobs I was able to slow down my eating habits per meal.

Now when I'm eating with others most of the time their through before I'm halfway done. When dieting I know all the reasons you should eat slow as far as techniques are concerned ie; put your fork does in between bites etc; but most of those techniques never worked for me.

If I miss a meal I don't necessarily make up for it because I'm usually hungry which is a bad thing and I eat too much. Usually the snack I have hanging around is not the best choice.

I eat pretty quickly, usually. I know that we're supposed to take our time and savor our food, and that's also supposed to help one feel full after eating. However, that's just not something I've every really been able to do. I have learned, though, that if I still feel hungry after having a portion of food, to wait for 15-20' before getting another portion. If I wait, I almost never still feel hungry afterwards.

Miss a meal? How can that possibly happen? ha ha ha. Back when my schedule was busier (e.g., when I used to work in the clinic or wards), I would occasionally be so busy that I couldn't take a break for a formal meal. As I recall, I'd try to grab a snack when I could, and then wait until the next meal.

On a scale of 1 to 10, slow to fast, I'm a 4. I don't often miss meals, but usually get by until the next meal with a (healthy) snack

I’m a fast eater. I’ve made conscious efforts to use the tips on how to slow down, but it has to be an effort; it still doesn’t happen “intuitively” for me. The one place I’ve had success in the past year? Snacking. I’ll get four Pretzel Thins or 20 grams of pop Chips and just nibble, nibble, nibble. I can make those 20 grams last a half hour. During that time, I’m not eating anything else, so slow snacking is helping.

I’m used to eating on a schedule, and like Pavlov's dogs, when that time roles around, I eat. If I don’t eat? Well, after an hour or two I stop feeling hungry for a while, and I’ll generally just wait for the next meal - a little earlier than usual, but still not trying to make up for the kissed feeding time. This has lead to a strategy we sometimes use when traveling, where we'll do a later breakfast and an earlier dinner - maybe around 4 PM or so. Since we’re eating out, it limits out exposure a bit.

You've got to make your meal times last

looking for fun and eating slowly!

If I am in a situation that requires it, I eat fast. But, most situations don't require it; so, I take my time and try to savor my meal.
