Ouch and ugh!

I've been diagnosed with gout--ouch! I had a mild episode of what was probably gout about three years ago. However, this past Friday, the same toe got red, hot, swollen, and very painful. I made it to urgent care yesterday and they diagnosed it as gout. I got started on colchicine (instead of steroids, which I asked to avoid because of the side-effects). It's still pretty painful today, though not as bad as Friday and Saturday night.
The "ugh" to all of this is that my weigh-in this morning was above my official WW goal. I think this is just some water retention from the motrin and extra-hydration I've been taking for the gout. Nevertheless, this is what happens when you maintain too close to your goal weight, I guess.
If there is a silver lining to this (and I believe that there are silver linings in many bad situations), it's that alcohol is a no-no during a gout flare, and that the "gout-diet" suggests significantly limiting alcohol (particular beer), and things like red meat, etc. All-in-all, the gout-diet is generally a healthy diet, and so I'm going to be put into a position to lose a few pounds anyway (by cutting out alcohol and extra snacking, and ensuring my diet is a healthy one).
Anyone else have experience with gout? I'm happy to hear advice and experiences.

Get well Steve. So far I’ve avoided that one.0

Sorry - I’m still trying to get my head around how you got a disease that I mentally associate with old, overweight Brits sitting around their clubs drinking port and sherry and smoking cigars. Something doesn’t seem right . . .
I've had no experience with it, but what’s going through my mind is whether it impacts some of the traditional meals associated with assorted Jewish holidays.0 -
I had a co-worker, at a high-end men's clothing store, and he'd sit in the shoe department, with his foot up, until one of his customers showed up, for him to wait upon the. He said it was a guy with an ice pick. I know THAT guy from my neuropathy.0

I have known 2 people with gout and their stories are scary. On the plus side the list of famous people in history who had gout is legendary, Julius Ceasar, Benjamin Franklin, and Gengis Kahn to name a few, you are in good company.0

Hope you get some relief and improvement soon. You can't keep a good GoaD down.0

Ha ha, thanks gang! Apparently, I'm an 'old, overweight Brit, sitting around his club drinking port and sherry and smoking cigars,' on the inside!
Apparently beer is not good for gout, which is a huge bummer, given my recently-completed homebrew pale ale batch!0
