I am hitting the end of an intense family visiting time, and feeling how wonderful it has been! Sure, my diet and exercise have not been ideal, but it is only for this short time, and the emotions, talks, connections, and even the irritations have been most welcome and amazing.
Exercise will get better. Eating and drinking too! But it has been a fabulous week.
How about your final August week! Who is due for updates? I know they are not always fun, but sometimes they are amazing. Check in and we're hitting hump day for the last week of August

I'm not sure if I'll be on here with you Wednesday - I have a gig in the evening, my daughter leaves at 4;30 am, there is a lot of stuff to move and set up - fun and games! I'll try to check in, but Thursday I'll be more here again for sure. Have a good one!8

8/29 exercise:
7028 steps + 46 minutes Peloton2 -
Quick check in:
-Work lunch out today. Chose salad with chicken. Success!
-Big changes going on at work that result in more responsibility for me. Happening right on the doorstep of me leaving for my two weeks off. Not using food for stress management. Success!
-Had beers after work with friends. Nurturing social life. Success!
-Steps are over 10K today and my calories are under plan. Success!
Focusing on what I can control now and taking it one day at a time!8 -
As I mentioned before, we went on vacation this week and it's also my TOM. I think I need this week off from weighing in. It is NOT a good number at all. Even though I know it's just water weight and will come off. We got back from vacation Sunday and I continued some bad eating habits. My plan is for today to be one perfect day to get back in the swing of things.5

I did it! I packed everyone's lunches, helped pack backpacks and feed everyone breakfast. Sent them all out the door to school with dad. Completed all the online school pick up stuff forms and cross country forms. All of that completed by 7:15 AM! The rest of the day is all mine. I'm very excited 😁
@ashleycarole86 Wow! You are doing a really great job 👏 Staying focused despite all of the new stuff coming your way.
@MoonlitMuse I use a wellness coach. It is really helpful but sometimes I wish she wasn't there peaking over my shoulder if you know what I mean 😁 it helps when I want to get sloppy.
@jugar Yes, a busy time in life for sure! I know it won't last forever and I'm glad I had kids starting in my mid 20's so I can keep up! I know you had kids later and I have several friends who waited too. You guys really like a challenge LOL! Our oldest went to 7th grade today. The middle child went to 5th and the little guy is in 2nd grade. Wow, I really need to beef up that college fund 🤔 We only have one left who still believes in Santa, toothfairy and easter bunny. My husband and I are savoring these last little bits of it because it won't last much longer.

@AshenMoon That is great news on feeling better! Super excited for you.
@micki48 How was work? Hope you are enjoying it. How many boxes of books did you move into the school?2 -
There's a lot of stuff going on right now - I took my mom to the airport at 3:45 this morning and I need to check in on my stepdad after work because he's got tremors so bad that he can't really use his hands (something happened and we're not sure what's going on because he's really deteriorated in the past two weeks. He's only 58, so I'm hoping it can be fixed with no lingering effects). And my mom's visiting my sister because she's struggling. The timing is the worst. I'm feeling overwhelmed and like I can't share any of my stuff because no one has any empathy left in my family. So I'm venting here.
I haven't heard from my master's supervisor all summer and reached out yesterday because I'm struggling with math and programming. There's a large part of me that just wants to quit. But I've put in so much time and stress.
My ankles and Achilles are still in pain. I'm in pain all the time - I'm trying one more thing and if it doesn't work then I'm going to get some sort of injections, which is expensive and worrisome.
Ugh. Sorry. Just feeling super defeated right now and all I can think is that everything would be solved if I was at my goal weight (which is over 50lbs away), which is not true at all. The issues will be there whether I'm 190 lbs or 140 lbs. I might have less pain though7 -
@kellie_erin (((hugs))) so sorry you have so much to deal with right now, family pressures and pain. It's tough to get through it all, I agree. I have had similar family pressures when taking care of both my aged parents. Feeling defeated is not uncommon. I don't mind listening to your venting and please do look after yourself.4
-
@kellie_erin I second that - come here to vent and cry on our shoulders any time. The combination of family illness and huge uncertainty added to the stress of constant pain is rough. You are right to say that some of the pain might improve with a weight loss, but not all the other problems will go away. Ask for help as much as you need to, and take breaks whenever you can. Hugs galore on the way.

@kellie_erin
Popping in to third that!
I hope your check-in on your step dad went okay.
You have been facing a lot of stress from a lot of different angles. Add in physical pain, and it's a lot. We're glad to have you here.3 -
@conleywoods Way to crush the morning routine! Love that2
-
Hey all! Another day whizzing by. How is it already Aug 31??? Seriously - this time passing as you get older thing is LEGIT!!!
Another busy day at work.. second last before holidays, last with my coworker who is retiring. It's official - I am retaining my management role and taking hers on too, which means my team is doubling in size. Her role is way outside my comfort zone. Feeling the fear and doing it anyway! Hard not to be riddled with self doubt (this perfectionist lives in that space!)
Nevertheless, it's also an exciting time, and I'm trying to focus on being thankful.
I am confident I'll be in my maintenance zone again tomorrow (week 2 in a row!) and ready to switch back to goal zone for Sept. YAY! Old me 100% would have buckled under the pressure and used food to cope. It's still tempting every day, but I just keep reminding myself that only makes things worse.
8/30 exercise:
11432 steps
Trying to get up at 4:30 tomorrow to fit in a bike ride BEFORE work. Wish me luck! That's early, even for me!!6 -
Good morning WaistAways!
The scale continues to be mean to me, and so much is happening!ashleycarole86 wrote: »How is prep going?
It's going pretty alright. I think I'll make it through remembering most of my routine at this point, so hopefully I can lock the rest of it in by next Friday! Thanks for asking!
Have a great day, everyone!4 -

UGH!!!
That has been my weight for 3 straight days. My eating has been on point for 3 straight days. I have been having stomach issues for a few weeks now. I have been researching gut healthy diets. I have been adding in a variety of fruits and vegetables, pickles, and reducing dairy and gluten. I have been completely gluten free for 3 days. I haven't cut out dairy, yet, but that will be my next step. Oh. I am taking a probiotic too. Does anyone have any suggestions for gut health?7 -
@kellie_erin You have a lot going on right now. Big Hugs. Focus on what you can control because a lot of that is out of your control. I hope things calm down soon, but you can always vent to the group. We are here for you.
@conleywoods high five!!! My goal is to leave at 7:30, but we usually don't leave until 7:40....sometimes 7:50!!! My middle schooler rides the bus, but she joined student council (which is a huge deal for my little introvert) and I have to leave here by 7:20, at the latest.3 -
Thursday weigh-in

And with that @jugar I think i qualify to go back to goal zone with two weeks of weighing inside my maintenance range!
Got that 4:30 workout in. Well, 4:50.. alarm didn't go off but Brad woke up and got me up. Ready to tackle the day!7 -
Thanks for the support everyone, I really appreciate it. My step-dad actually ended up in the hospital yesterday - his bloodwork showed some stuff that is causing his symptoms. He's going to be there for a few days. I'm hoping things will get figured out but I don't know the prognosis yet.
This in combination with physical pain and master's stress has definitely brought my weight loss motivation to a halt 😫. Here's hoping September is better than August6 -

I'm sorry you're having stomach woes - but glad to see you taking the good old experimental route rather than jumping on medications right away. They have their place, but sometimes are not needed.
Here's what works for me - not to say that it would for everyone... Cutting out (or back) gluten helped me a lot, but for me, and cutting back on all grain products made an even bigger difference. No gluten free bread, rice, etc. Millet and quinoa seem to go down OK. Dairy I cut down to transformed dairy and that seems fine. So yogurt and cheese are still there, but not milk itself, even as an ingredient. Again, as long as I almost always keep it that way, an occasional indulgence in things that contain milk does not cause problems. And finally, as with many aging humans, too much fat can really mess up digestion.
Rather than track grams of this and that, sticking to whole unprocessed foods makes it easy. Fruits, veggies, protein with nothing turned into flour seems to take care of the bloating and heartburn easily. I can then enjoy some sugar, a glass of wine or beer (as long as it is not every day), or the occasional indulgence with no problem. Stress does not help digestion either, though, so sometimes it is just going to be a bit delicate for a while. That is when sticking to the whole foods helps the most.
Enough rambling! I hope you find the solutions that work for you. And no more UGH! You lost weight this week, and came out in the green for the whole week. Well done!7 -
@kellie_erin that sounds like a lot. I hope they can help your step dad, and whilst him being in hospital is worrying, he's where he needs to be right now.
@conleywoods I think you already have that morning routine down to a fine art.
@ashleycarole feeling the fear and doing it anyway - you will smash it I'm sure.
I am having the weirdest week. I massively overdid it Friday-Monday, resulting in a spectacular crash and burn on Tuesday evening. Zombie mode activated for sure, and last night I was taking painkillers for a headache. Then this morning (Thursday) I woke up feeling ah-maze-ing. I haven't felt this good in years and I can't explain it! I have physical energy, I feel upbeat and my usually-negative-mind has been quiet, or at least easily shushed.
Plan for tonight is using my newfound energy to literally shovel *kitten* - I'm going to collect some horse manure for the allotment.8 -
@KellyBgetsfit Oh man, tummy stuff is no joke. I am always working on gut health stuff and I use the prebiotic/probiotic called seed. I also eat sourdough bread and kombucha pretty regularly. I think I recall that you get your protein powder from Costco? Not sure if you are using protein powder right now. My wellness coach has a few brands of protein powder from Costco that are forbidden because they contain sucralose. Premier protein is one of those brands and a few others. Sucralose is an artificial sweetener and 80-90% of it passes through your gut during digestion. It has a really negative effect on your microbiota and microbiome. It is similar to the effects of taking antibiotics. Some companies hide this ingredient by just putting artificial flavors on the label. Do some research on your protein powder and check for sucralose. It could be really messing with your tummy. It could be stalling your progress if your gut health is suffering. Hope you figure out what is going on.4

@DD265 Send me some of that stuff - whatever it is you woke up with! I woke up completely exhausted from my wild and crazy gig last night, and today has been escaping from Montreal (where EVERY street is called "Detour" during the summer), getting home, and catching up on all the tomatoes that got ripe over the past couple of day. I'm going to sleep like a zombie tonight, for sure. Maybe that is what helped? You said you were in zombie mode before waking up all wonderized. I'll give it a try!
Last night was a blast once we finally got all the tech issues figured out, the set up made to our satisfaction (who knew how much one can care about camera placement?), and finally could make some music together after all the logistical craziness. It finished really late though - I'm out of practice for late night stuff like this!
Now it is time to set up the September chat threads, spreadsheets, and all that fun stuff. Prepare your ideas for the next month! It is a shorter one (4 weeks), and hopefully schedules will settle down into a new routine. I'll post the links to the September chat as soon as it is done. Maybe tomorrow!6 -
@jugar can I be excused from this week's weigh in? Thank you1

@jugar I'm reading 'The End of Craving' after finishing the 'Dorito Effect'
I'm about half way through and it's definitely opening my eyes to all the food additives I likely don't even know I'm eating and the effects of 'calorie mismatch' on the way our brains react to food uncertainty. Wow!
I can see the benefits of whole foods coming out as conclusion of this. Can't wait to finish it.3 -
