@CeeBeeSlim my deepest condolences. That is devastating. @k8richer and @litstuesday said it well... Routines are a lifesaver when you're confronted with a crisis. You just have to try to keep going. Routines and tv binge distractions!
On the measurement discussion, when we did a two-week challenge at the yoga studio they took pictures of us from the neck down so they could post them. And they did not tell us to tuck our tummies in! We did front and side view with our yoga clothes on
Nice progress!
I had too many Angry Orchards yesterday. Trying to get back in the game today. Had four days of poor sleeping and I did have some nap time yesterday, but I'm going to try to get a really good nap today.
Even on poor sleep I did fine at circuit training. I will just crash the rest of the day if I'm not careful.

@CeeBeeSlim so very sorry to hear of your family's loss - I can't imagine what his family is going through right now. (((HUGS))) to all involved.
@Iitstuesday I measure weekly and compare with previous week. I weigh daily (usually) first thing in the am and use a trend app (Libra in my case).
Had a pretty active weekend - hiking, lots of yard work (mowing, trimming, edging...ugh), then riding motors all day up in the mountains yesterday. Pretty beat by the end of it all, but it was good. Taking today and probably tomorrow off to recover (tendonitis not real happy, although not a bad as it could be) and just doing some PT stuff for that. Worn out today and tomorrow will be extra long with work anyways, so back to the weights on Wednesday.
Couple photos from our hike on Saturday:

@CeeBeeSlim I'm so sorry to hear of your and your family's loss. As others have already noted, taking care of yourself during your grieving is very important. Sending lots of love and hugs your way.

@k8richer I take measurements once a month (unless my weight hasn't actually moved much in that month LOL). I feel like once a week won't really show too much difference and might get me down. I did take some pictures of my gut, arms and face a while back so I can compare once I get to my goal weight, but I don't post pictures of myself online. I'm hoping to see much more toned arms and legs, and a much flatter tummy once I've reached goal. I do just some basic measurements: chest, over boobs; upper arms at largest part of bicep; waist, across belly button; hips at widest part; and thighs at widest part (I do both left and right arm and leg measurements). I measure in a relaxed, natural state, no flexing and no tummy sucking (but I haven't had 3 kids, so if the sucking in of your tummy makes you admire your abs, go for it ).
@zenobia9777 I think the bench exercise you mentioned is a dumbbell row. Regarding your fitbit: Interesting how the fat burn is higher in one, yet the peak heart rate is in the other.
@HoneyBadger302 i would love to see my arm and leg measurements go up, to me that means I've built up some muscle in those parts.
@mandycat_florida hi, nice to meet you. I actually have really good posture. I would occasionally slouch or slump in a chair while reading, and my mother would always yell at me for it (she'd give me a light tap on the shoulder and say "sit up straight!' so I guess after a few years of that, my posture improved ). As you noted, it's definitely a challenge these days with the phones, etc.
@litstuesday I agree, can't wait for some milder weather.

Hi everyone, an MFP oldie here who has forsaken the power of myfitnesspal (and has had some physical impairment to deal with) and has now gained 8 kg or 17 lbs since last year. My diving drysuit gave up on my, and the seams have been stretched so hard that I now have leaks in embarrassing places. I will need to buy a new one, as I have really ruined it, but I refuse to buy a larger size. So here is some motivation and you guys will be stuck with me again.
Age: 52
Weight: 78 kg - 172 lbs
BMI: 26.7
August goal: 76 - 167 lbs
October goal: 70 - 154 lbs2 -
Welcome, @Antiopelle! You will find lots of friendly, helpful people here. Let us know what's working and what isn't.
Love the pictures @HoneyBadger302.
I want to get out in the woods again.
I haven't been sore much but I did feel it in my gut after we worked our abs on Monday
@SparkSpringtime69 thanks for reminding me about the dumbbell row.
I've been reading up on fat burning and heart rate and I don't know what to think. Doesn't matter too much to me as long as I think I'm working hard enough. My heart rate was up to 163 on Monday, but I really did not feel like it was too tough. So supposedly I had only 3 minutes of fat burn that day, but today at yoga I had 18 minutes and I only got up to a 137 heart rate. There are a lot of theories out there and who knows how accurate the Fitbit is anyway.
I decided to work up to a 5K in November and see if the weightlifting will give me the ability to breathe better. Last time I got in third place in my age group. I got a chuckle out of that because I was barely running
I am 64. It is not a very large 5K event.
I did get a free facial out of the deal!

Thank you all for your kind comments and compassion. It’s all true - sticking to my routine makes me feel better - so starting - well, restarting again today. Welcome back @Antiopelle!
Wonderful photos @HoneyBadger302. Thanks for sharing.1 -
@Antiopelle glad to meet you. It's a shame your diving suit needs to be replaced. I feel the same way about replacements; I refuse to buy any new clothes until I reach my goal weight. I have some things in the closet that I'll shrink back into and, once I hit goal, I'll treat myself to a new wardrobe.
@zenobia9777 The 5k sounds like fun. That's something I've been wanting to work up to for a while. I walked a 5k a number of years ago (they had a 1 mile fun walk before the main event, but I wanted to go the whole 5k). There were a few other walkers in the group and I actually didn't come in last
I've been getting some terrible leg cramps at night, almost every night for the last 4 or 5 days. I haven't been exercising lately, just plain lazy, and I'm wondering if that's causing it. I've read that it could be a vitamin or mineral deficiency too, so I think it's time to find a doctor down here and get an annual wellness exam with some blood work thrown in for good measure.
1 -
Definitely get some blood work. I used to have leg cramps fairly often, @SparkSpringtime69
I did fairly well yesterday except there were chips left over from last weekend'. I had chip remorse.
Today I'm cleaning the refrigerator and maybe that will burn a few calories.
We had some bad news about my niece. Her mother had a bilateral mastectomy in her 40s. My niece, I'm sure, has been very good about mammograms, but when you are young your breast tissue is dense and I think they must have missed it. Now they are recommending MRIs at 6 months in addition to the yearly mammogram. It's not clear if it's just that gynecologist that is making the recommendation.
It is so devastating to her, and she will have to have a bilateral because it has spread so much.
So please pass along to in the young women that you know that an MRI might be a good idea, if the history is in the family. I did get tested for the breast cancer gene but I do not think it makes you immune to breast cancer even if you don't have it.
@CeeBeeSlim, we had a young friend who attempted suicide and that was very traumatic. I can't imagine what everyone in the family is going through. Hang in there

5'7", 44 years old
Starting Weight 1/3/22: 155.8
GW: ~128-132ish

4/22: Missed
5/31/22: 149.4
6/29/22: 152.4
7/27/22:150.6
8/4/22: 150.0
8/10/22: 150.6
8/17/22: 151
Worst part is that all my "fat" measurements went up as well - by a lot actually, and I KNOW I've stayed under my calorie goal every day with the exception of yesterday when I didn't track due to work events. There's no way it's fat, but it was very discouraging.
Also saw a post from the barn owners (people who I would also consider friends on some level) at the barn I work at part time confirming that his cancer has indeed spread, quite a lot, and his time is limited. Originally (over a year ago now), he had a 30% chance of making it past 5 years - and while they didn't put a number out there, they did say that "it will be less" (words of their NP).
Kinda a crummy day. Weather is crappy too...rainy and dreary.1 -
@zenobia9777 I'm so, so sorry to hear about your niece - you didn't mention her age, although at any age that's such devastating news, but the younger the woman is, I would think even more so. My thoughts are with her and your family; I hope that they are able to catch everything before it gets any farther. Hugs
Regarding blood work, I just went to my insurance website today to pick a PCP. They had some guy's name there (I guess they just automatically assign you to someone) so I changed it; I prefer to have a female doctor. Anyway, it said the change would take effect 9/1, so I guess I have to wait a couple of weeks to make the appointment.

@HoneyBadger302 I think you hit it on the nose when you wrote 'There's no way it's fat...". It looks like your weight barely went up one half of a pound, possibly it's water retention. This is from Healthline:
Symptoms of water retention-
Water retention may cause you to feel heavier than usual, and less nimble or active. Retaining excess water can also cause some noticeable symptoms.
Symptoms of water retention can include:
bloating, especially in the abdominal area
swollen legs, feet, and ankles
puffiness of the abdomen, face, and hips
stiff joints
weight fluctuations
I'm sure you already know this, I think as women we're all familiar with the 'horrors' of water retention.
When the weather sucks, it can definitely add to your downer day but, in this case, I think the news of friend's cancer spread probably warrants feelings of crappiness. I hope you're able to work through your sadness, and I especially hope that the doctors may be wrong and your friend gets a bit more time than is currently diagnosed. hugs

@Antiopelle this is so fun that you are back!! (Ladies, don't be fooled - she's a hard core diver, cyclist and all round fitness motivator!) You will burn through the extra weight quickly. If you want to add me back as a MFP friend go ahead and tag me. I've got a fun gang now on my newsfeed - very motivating with lots of challenge ideas! If anyone else wants to send me a friend thing, I'm up for it!

@HoneyBadger302 so sorry to hear about your friend.
You're still making progress even if you don't see it yet. You just have to keep going in the same direction
@SparkSpringtime69 I think she was born in 1981. Yes. it's horrible at any age but she's taking it very hard. The doctor sent me a video yesterday showing iwhen you are young your breast tissue is denser and that's why they want to create a baseline to try to pick up differences. Thank you for sending the good thoughts our way!
Today we are taking a day road trip to Turner Falls in Oklahoma. It is supposedly cooler there. One of my grandsons really likes geology and I think some of the rock layers you can see on the way would be interesting to him.
Maybe since people are going back to school it won't be quite so crazy there.
I'll try to post pictures.

@HoneyBadger302 awesome pics! Ever since I kinda overdid it on my big hike with my teenager weeks ago, I've been up a couple of pounds. I can't shake them. I've been doing more weights (currently trying an youtube series by Caroline Girvan called IRON. The woman is scary fit and I can't lift close to what she does, but it's motivating!) so I assume it is water retention like @SparkSpringtime69 astutely says but when the heck does it balance out again?
Thanks all for your experiences measuring etc! I got the photos done and must get organized for measurements. I actually doubt there will be much change in size at all. I'd hope that my arms don't get bigger - I just want to swap fat for muscle please! My thighs and waist might get slimmer. Calves I don't care. Need more boobage, but there aren't workouts that can help with that LOL!

Final post today, I swear.
I'm flying out today to the West coast (Vancouver) for a week long family reunion! I'm so excited to see my parents who are elderly but mostly my sister and her kids. She lives in Europe and our kids havent seen each other for years bc of covid. Before a 5hr plane ride I'm going for a run! I promised myself and the dog.
Here is a pic from my last run. Have a great STRONG Thursday all!

Feeling a little better today for sure...I kinda "knew" things weren't going well for my friend (he was hardly ever making it out to the barn, definitely wasn't improving physically, and seemed to be getting more and more quiet), but having it made "official" always sucks.
Ended up skipping my lifting yesterday (gave in to my blues a bit), although I at least did some jump roping while watching my show, so not a complete loss (just not a full workout), but at least the mentality of "do something" was there.
The water weight and wooshes thing I KNOW is a thing for my body, but it sure can get frustrating sometimes! "Trust the process" and all that, and I know it'll come around, but even knowing that it's hard to keep the motivation up - discipline needs to be the key there in that case.2 -

Plus I can sit here and do little balance exercises which engage my core and work on balance all while sitting at my desk. It's uncomfortable to slouch for long on the ball, so there is a "natural" reminder to sit up properly, unlike sitting in a chair. Plus, as someone with ADHD, the ball lets me bounce around and fidget without being as distracting for others as it is when I'm in a chair LOL.
Ah, you've just reminded me that I have a ball lying around idle. I've moved the chair and I am now sitting on the ball again0 -
Thanks for the warm welcome ladies
@CeeBeeSlim : my deepest condoleances, this must be very hard. I hope you'll get enough support to see this through.
@HoneyBadger302 : great to see you are still here and sending great pics ! I'm sorry to hear about the barn owner. Even when you kinda expect it, it always hits hard. I'm so sorry ...
@k8richer : wow girl, that is too much praise for sure, haha. I'll add you and I'll keep an eye on your page.
@zenobia9777: that news for your niece can be devastating. Know that I'm also in a regimen of a mammo or MRI every 6 months. However daunting this may seem, it's mainly keeping on top of things, which is good.

@Antiopelle thank you for sharing about the mammograms and your kind thoughts
I'm glad you feel better @HoneyBadger302.
That will be a fantastic reunion, @k8richer. Love the picture!
After I got done with the weight class today, I experimented with "running" around the block. I estimated that I did 5 minutes without running out of breath, and I did not try to do more, so I do think I have improved because of the weight training.
Some of the weights seemed not heavy enough today, but I'm glad I paced myself because I couldn't do all of the planks and burpees.
Also the forward arm lift is challenging, even with just 7.5 lb weights. I could do the 10 lb weights overhead with no problem
I have to be disciplined on Sunday and report my weight. I'm sure I have the fluctuations that we have had a lot of comments on, but my eating is definitely not where it should be.
Happy weekend!

@zenobia9777 Hope you had a great day the Turner Falls. Did your grandson enjoy it? Did you take any pics you'd like to share?
@k8richer I hope you have a great time in Vancouver. PS, I added you as a friend, thanks for the invite.
@HoneyBadger302 I'm glad you're feeling a little better, and some exercise is certainly better than none (which is what I did today ) It was pouring rain outside all day, and I was doing a bunch of housework and some cooking, so didn't get any actual exercise in.

777 zipline
I have trouble with photos...2 -
Turner Falls from above.
@SparkSpringtime69 yes. both did!
We did not do the Zipline. The ride is a two person seater that takes 77 seconds!!!
It was a perfect day. The falls are a bit dry, but the park was deserted. Collings Castle ruins are amazing.
Accountability...
I continue with weight fluctuations.

@zenobia9777 Wow, that looks like a fun place to spend a day. Glad to hear you all had a good time, and thanks for sharing the pics, they came out great.0

Hello friends. On the road - driving all over and looking at colleges for my daughter. Really fun trip in all but lots of driving, hotels, meals out which means completely out of my routine. I packed some healthy snacks but just really not making all the best choices. It is really hard to eat at a ballpark- especially if you don’t eat much meat. Even so “healthy” options are few. Fortunately it’s temporary but as we know one week out of the routine will take me at least 6 to correct. And I had been doing really well. And was down before I left. Oh well - the see-saw of those last 5+ pounds we are all fighting.
@CeeBeeSlim - hope you are well and feeling ok.
@zenobia9777 beautiful pics - looks like a great time. And good job with accountability- I am trying to stay accountable and track while on the road. Dreading the results when I get home.
@HoneyBadger302 loved your hike pics. I love to be out in the woods when I can. Sorry about your bad news. Just awful news. Hope you are doing better.
@k8richer hope your trip is going well. I would love to go to Vancouver one day.
@SparkSpringtime69 hope the leg cramps are better. They are awful and painful. I have heard about a potassium connection but not sure how valid that is. Hope you are feeling better.
Wish me luck friends - three more states and four more days of lots of driving…two more hotels, another ballpark. Honestly having a wonderful time but just wish I could do all this and eat better and exercise too. Sigh. Isn’t that all of us 😉1 -
I hear you @litstuesday. But you are making some wonderful memories with your daughter.
We actually did better on the road trip than at home. We packed a bag of kale salad, cheese, and deli turkey, which we assembled into pita pockets. Also a bag of clementines. The boys had small bottles of juice but then we all drank water after that..
I have to confess that I split a small bag of Skittles.
I babysat a little boys overnight and that is bad for my eating habits. Some people at my house wanted me to buy cookies. My undoing
Back to it...1 -
Happy Sunday, Pals! Slowly catching up on you all! Glad to be back and thanks for the warm and well wishes.
Good timing as in my inbox this morning was a pyramid graphic illustrating the key principles of fat loss - the most important of 5 - nutrition, sleep, and stress! I’m probably a D- on all three but recommitting today! Missed y’all!❤️
2 -
@litstuesday, sounds like a fun road trip even with the challenge to healthy habits. I'll bet you'll get right back on top of things as soon as you get back. My leg cramps seem to have subsided the last few nights-I'm hoping it continues. I read about a potassium connection as well.
@zenobia9777, kids and cookies (and ice cream) kind of go hand-in-hand, don't they?
@CeeBeeSlim, my grade is not so good on those either!2 -
@zenobia9777 : super pics, it seems a really nice place!
I'm a week in, and my net cals are on point for the last 7 days.
I've clocked in a 87km (54miles) bike ride in one go, I did stop for some drink and a packed lunch.
3 long dives (around 5 hours in total spent under water)
1 heavy PT session
2 gym session - muscle build
1 walk - 5 km / 3 miles
I feel like being my former self again1
