eating calories day before exercise

I'd love to hear from other runners/cyclists/fitness fanatics?

I'm currently training for a marathon and the days that I'm 'resting' I'm supposed to eat 1200 calories. Very often thought the next morning I'm running anything from 10 - 18 miles and I'm absolutely weak with hunger from the day before!

Does anyone else eat some of their calories the day before and then not eat all of their 'exercise' calories the day that they're running etc?
