Well, this is proof that more exercise doesn't reduce weight. I've been getting a lot of exercise, but the intake has been hit or miss.
I can't believe it's the last day of August. Where does the time go? I had posted that there's been a lot happening in my life, so I'll just give an update. We sold our cabin, after much consideration and after 30 years owning it as only a second owner. It was a tough decision, but the buyer is a young man who is about the age we were when we bought it, and has small children who love it. He's local and grew up skiing at the resorts close to the cabin. He's going to use it like we did, not rent it out (like some who had come around interested in adding to their AirB&B portfolio), and seems to really love it. Our kids took the news well, and the Cali and Oregon families are coming to see it and say goodbye later in Sept. . . We have it until Sept 28.
Next, hubby has had difficulty with his cataract surgery lens, and had a second surgery on the same eye. It's better, but he still has sensitivity and other side effects. But, he's determined to go on his annual Alaska fishing trip with his friends, which is coming up next week. He and I will be staying at our daughter's home over Labor Day weekend to take care of the baby while they are in D.C. My trainer and her family are going to use the cabin over the holiday weekend.
Next, my Oregon daughter's father-in-law passed away in Boise. Her hubby is the oldest and is handling things with the help of his half siblings. He'll be buried in Texas where he grew up, but they'll be having a memorial in Boise we'll attend in early October.
So, that's it. It's been a stressful time. Today, I'm off to a hair apt, as Lois puts it, the 3 hour tour, but mine should only take 90 minutes
Later, a quick cardio workout, play date, and family zoom tonight.

WOW Sheesh!! Prayers to you and hubby and the family. You guys have quite a bit going on. Hopefully hubby's side effects will diminish. Enjoy the last days of the cabin. I know you've mentioned the maintenance and work that goes into keeping it (we BRIEFLY thought about one several years ago, but I sometimes can't keep up with this house - let alone 2). I'm glad you all will be able to enjoy it one more time together. Have fun with the grandbaby!! Enjoy that 90 minute tour. I'm almost due for my next 3 hour and kinda wish I'd gotten it in early. Ah well, no one is going to be seeing me for a bit.
Surgery got moved up an hour or two, so we'll be heading out in an hour. Jumped on to ensure my desk is still clear and to do a quick check in.0 -

Relieved to see this and lucky once again to be on the low side of my swing on weigh-in day. Most days, I have been around 131.
Before I go on, Lois, if you are able to read posts soon, remember that we are all sending good healing thoughts your way. I hope your surgery and recovery goes well and much faster than anticipated. I know how you hate not being able to move around. I remember some of your injuries of old. I looked back on my calendars to see what I was doing this time last year and much of my time was spent dealing with my broken nose and other injuries from my fall. I was so lucky to heal faster and better than the docs predicted. I think they give you the worst case scenarios because they prefer for you to be happy about being ahead of schedule.
Sheesh, regarding the cabin, I know it's hard to let go of a place that includes so many happy memories. My Mom and Dad had a small place at a lake and I remember when Dad decided that he was just no longer able to keep up two houses. Like you, he sold to a family who wanted it for their own use and everyone in the family was glad that new kids would be there enjoying swimming, fishing, skiing, etc. My ex and I co-owned a house at the beach with his brother, and it was sold to investors. Whole different feeling. The pictures you've shared of the cabin showed a place that was kept up so well, and I've wondered how you and your hubby had the energy!
Also, tell your daughter that the weather here is much nicer than it has been for a while and I think it's supposed to stay that way through the holiday weekend. So I hope she and her hubby are able to enjoy DC. It's such a beautiful city. I hope they never let it become invaded with high rise buildings. (Now nothing can be higher than the Washington Monument so you can still see the sky and stars from the streets at night.)
Kelly and Katie, looking forward to hear from you both.
Now back to the topic at hand, here are my 7-day averages for this past week:
Steps = 13,354
Stairs = 11 flights
Kcals burned = 1,739
My goal to include weights with my upper body exercise went out the window. No reason. The couple of times that I did the exercises without weights, my shoulder did okay. I just can't figure out why I'm not able to get myself moving with this.
And I haven't really established goals for the coming week except to try to hold my own despite the holiday and hubby's birthday tomorrow. (And I know--the upper body.0 -
Last week: 158.6
This week: 159.4
Yep, that's about right. Definitely haven't been focusing on anything about myself lol Barely drinking water, barely moving and barely paying attention to what I'm eating. Last night we had subs for supper and a beer at hockey, so that didn't help the scale this morning. I'll get there eventually. Today just wasn't it.
Omigoodness Lois. That can't be fun to deal with. I'm so sorry you're going through that. Hopefully the healing goes smoothly for you. Post when you can with updates.
Sheesh, you sure have a lot going on too! Always tough to give up the family cabin for sure. We had one as a family when we lived in the northern part of our province and when my parents moved south, they sold it. Sure would love to have a cabin now, just not all the work it takes to maintain it. Sure hope your hubby's eyes are doing better and he can enjoy his annual trip! lol 3 hour tour made me laugh. My tour is booked for Saturday but it's usually also only a 1-1.5 hour tour. I haven't had a cut since March and I've been putting it off since I hate how much it costs to cut some hair off. It's time though as it's driving me bonkers.
Sarah - Hope your hubby had a good birthday. Congrats on maintaining!
Goals for the week...
1) Buy a water bottle and drink more water. My co-worker has a very large water bottle (can't remember how much) but it holds everything she tries to drink in a day. I need one of those as I hate tracking.
2) Attain my 30 minutes of exercise ring on my Apple watch each day.0 -
Quickly checked the board after logging food. Kelly, I like that you're adding goals, and your goals reminded me that staying hydrated is very important, as was stressed to me yesterday by my primary care doc during a televisit. I had been having some pain in my lower tummy for a couple of days and although it wasn't bad pain, it was just nagging and not going away. I suspected that it might be diverticulitis again, but the pain was in a different spot, so I finally bit the bullet and called her. I so did not want to start on the antibiotics again because one of them makes you photosensitive, and thus you have to avoid the sun. And I so wanted a few more days to swim since the pool heater is now fixed. Since I have no fever and no rebound pain, she said I could just switch to soft foods for a day or two and see what happens. I have the meds onhand should it flare up over the weekend. She also had me drop by for a urine sample, since the pain is lower mid-tummy, and told me to stay well hydrated and to take my blood pressure a couple of times a day. I had to waterload in order to ensure I could give that sample and I'm afraid it might have been a dilute sample, but then as hubby always reminds me, I often worry unnecessarily.
Another not so good thing is that my weight shot up almost two full pounds the day after weigh-in for this week and it's taking its sweet time going back down. Looking at my food diary and my activities on Fitbit, I don't see a logical reason for that sudden shift upward. So I'm just going to do the best I can for the next few days to stay within my 1200 kcals and move however much my tummy will let me.
Lois, I hope the foot is doing okay. Still sending you healing thoughts every day. Sheesh, I know you are having a great time babysitting, but I bet you are also tired. You will probably lose 2 or 3 pounds this week from all the lifting and moving associated with caring for a little one. And I hope your hubby's eye is doing better. His trip may have come a good time since this issue has to grate on his nerves and fishing and being with his buddies may help relieve some of that tension.
Hope everyone enjoys their Labor Day weekend. Stay safe!0
