Good morning, all. Thought I'd start the thread before my day gets away from me.

Lois, oh my gosh. I am so sorry you are having to go through all this pain, effects of the pain meds, etc., and I hope the next suture/staple removal is not so painful. When I fell and broke my nose and cut up my face last year, I kept thinking, "how can something like this happen so quickly and unexpected." I know that it just can and that knowing people are sending good healing thoughts helps, so know there's a bunch coming your way.

I've had a little bump in my road this week, too. On Saturday, I noticed a little red, swollen area near where my implant post is placed. Not a lot of pain, but very puffy. By Sunday the red was joined by some white areas, so I used the cell number my specialist had given me and sent him a message and a photo. I didn't want to wait until Monday and regret waiting the two days. He's great. He responded quickly that he would only be working two days this week (and unfortunately both of those at his downtown location) before heading for a conference but that he'd like to see me before he left town. He said he thought he knew what was going on (and he did) and that it wasn't serious but needed to be attended. So I took the metro downtown yesterday and he fixed the problem by removing some gum tissue and putting the loosening cap back on tight. I'm also taking an antiobiotic that he called in on Sunday. The dosing schedule for that has made intake a little harder these past few days. I have to take the med every 8 hours with food and the last dose comes at bedtime. So I'm having to work in a late night snack. Ugh! But it's only a short course, and I'll deal with it.

Mentioning courses, Sheesh, the Bone Builders program is a science-based course that is offered nationally. I'm lucky that my county provides it free of charge and one of the locations is in our neighborhood. The course is designed to put the right kind of stress on the bones and it includes strengthening, stretching, and balance exercises. The first four classes are instructional with no weights, but after that, we can add dumbells and ankle weights. Each person is allowed to decided how much weight and when, although the instructor keeps a sharp eye on us. She actually told me yesterday that it looks like I have good core strength. I was surprised and flattered (and not so sure about that!).

Kelly and Katie, hope the school year and all that entails still leaves you a little time to focus on yourselves. Juggling a job, kids, and their extra-curricular activities is a a lot!

Looking forward to hearing from everyone but need to run now. I have my regular 3-month appointment to get my thyroid checked in less than an hour.

Before I go, here's my 7-day stats for last week:

Steps = 13,896
Stairs = 16 floors
Kcals burned = 1,840

Goals later. :smile:

    Just checking back and surprised to see that no one else weighed in yesterday. Hope all is well with everyone. When I put my stats, I failed to say that these are the 7-day averages. They were really good this past week, although my weight stayed in my current 2-pound range. However, it's not going up, and I'm grateful--particularly since I've had more going on in the past week or so than is typical.

    Yesterday, however, my steps were down (a little over 8K) because I was not able to meet my walking buddy and because part of my activity time was spent in the pool. The pool closes for the year on Sunday, so we tried to slip in a rare weekday visit.

    My goals for this week must include (says my doc) reducing my sodium intake and cutting back on caffeine. I only have one very large cup of coffee each day, but my BP has been a little high for a few months and so before suggesting meds, she wants to see if these two things will help. She also asked me about that free nutrition counseling that I'm owed for allowing my blood work to be shared with the 4 Your Heart clinical trial. I told her that I've tried multiple times and was put on hold for longer than anyone should have to wait or one time, was actually put thrrough and it sounded like the person just hung up the phone without answering. She must have contacted them, because this morning, they called me. But unfortunately, the call came just as I was leaving for class and running late, so I'll return the call later today. Since they will want a food diary, I'm very grateful that I have those already here in MFP.

    Another goal is do some of the exercises from my class at home one day, so I'll have three days of strength, stretching and balance exercises rather than just two.

    Well, I have a to-do list a mile long, so must run. Will check back later.

    Just a quick drop in. All staples and sutures have been successfully removed (albeit with more tears). Still on Percocet (boo). Adding gerberpectin or something like that. It’s supposed to address nerve pain. But I’m hoping that now that the staples and sutures are out and now in my boot that I won’t have the pain I’ve been experiencing. If this stuff doesn’t work they’ve referred me to a pain specialist as well. Still no weight bearing for two more weeks. I am permitted to flex my foot 2-3/day. 10 times up down and side to side for 2-3 sets. So still stuck in the recliner. And the gaberdimething is also going to make me sleepy. So Sarah I’m ADDING coffee for the next couple of weeks to combat that. We’ll see.

    I got to test out the ottoman in the back seat of the new van - pretty comfy.

    Sorry I've been off the board and not logging food or checking in . . I've had a lot going on with the cabin sale and other "stuff" going on. Hubby is back with lots of fish, so the freezer is full again. My Cali and Oregon kids are coming into town today and tomorrow for a visit to say goodbye to the cabin, and for my birthday. It's going to be (and has been) a very emotional time for me, and unfortunately what I'll do typically is eat more, lol! So, I'll have that to deal with, but it will be fine.

    Lois, I'm glad the staples and sutures are over with . . now you can get on with healing and therapy. That gabapentin (I think that's it) was a tough med for my hubby . . it really knocked him out, so be careful with that one. I'm hoping this is all behind you soon. <3

    Sarah, the Bone Builders class sounds like it will be great for increasing your fitness in different ways than you normally do. You're already fit with all the walking, stairs, etc you do. And, your core strength is already good! Aren't you glad you didn't stay in a chair while you were working, but always kept up the walking?

    Katie, my real name is Cynthia, but my real nick name is really Sheesh, lol. You can call me either. It seems like you're a really nice and attentive mom to your children, and that's so important. Taking care of you isn't selfish, but also for your loved ones, so you can be healthy and energetic and there for them a long time. I'm sure you already know that, but we can easily forget when others need us.

    Well, after 2.5 years of avoiding it, Shawn and I both have COVID. :'(
    We're doing okay. I tested positive on Sunday after having a ridiculously bad headache on Saturday and a froggy-ish throat. Test on Saturday was negative. The headache is by far the worst part of it so far. Found that Advil cold & sinus is the only thing helping. Other than that it's tiredness, a sore throat (starting today only) and chills/sweats off and on.
    Shawn only tested positive today. His symptoms are different than mine, so far he's just stuffed up and feels run down. A bit of a cough.
    Just wanted you all to know I haven't forgot about you!

    Oh my gosh, Kelly. Hope you and Shawn both feel better quickly and have no lingering effects. Despite all our efforts, it seems that eventually we may all encounter this virus. With testing, it often takes a couple of days before you get a positive result with a home test.

    Yesterday, I wore myself ragged. Hubby left for his trip to see spend a few days with his cousin up at the lake near where he grew up. Funny how you don't realize how chores are divided until suddenly you're doing 100% of them. Plus, I went shopping for clothes, which you all know I hate to do, and once again I came home with nothing. I'm between sizes and winter colors do not go well with my light hair and complexion. I am going to be looking like a bag lady if I don't find some things soon! :D Then last night I did some volunteer work. I also went walking and took care of setting up some appointments, including the free nutrition counseling I'm owed from that clinical trial. By bedtime I had almost 17,000 steps. But wouldn't you know it--I weighed more this morning than I did last night wearing PJs and slippers. I am blaming the soy sauce I had with my late dinner. But by the time I finally got to bed at 12:30, I was so tired, I was feeling overwhelmed. Hope today is less hectic.

    And mentioning today--HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHEESH! I hope you have a wonderful time with your family celebrating the beginning of another year, which I hope treats you well and brings you health and happiness. (And now you're as old as me again--as Lois would say, Bwhahaha!!)

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHEESH!!!! Hoping your day is amazing and may all of your wishes come true!

    Kelly - hoping you and Shawn keep the Covid to yourselves and you bounce back soon. Dr had us add zinc and D3 when we got it in Jan. along with Tylenol (I’m not supposed to take advil because of BP meds) tons of fluids and of course REST. I think there was something else but I can’t recall for sure. I ended up on antibiotics because it went straight to my lungs.

    Sarah - hubby is feeling the “extra chores” since I’ve been down. And I felt it when he went down in June. I need a smaller house. Lol. And like you - I dislike shopping. I only do it when my daughter is with me no rarely find anything I like when I go solo.

    So with me being down, home not being up to snuff and just waiting to get shoulder surgery scheduled, he’s agreed to let me hire some to help clean the house. Yippee. And she can come back between now and year end or January depending on when hubby is recovered from his surgery (probably scheduling for December so he can become Master Jaucian in Taekwondo in November. So there’s a little silver lining out there.

    Lois, when I posted earlier I blanked out that today is your wedding anniversary. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY and may you enjoy many more years together. The household help sounds reasonable to me. When I was working we had "Betty" coming every other week and she was a godsend. If you have long work hours, or something going on physically, or just other things biting into your schedule, it is such a relief to have someone doing the routine kind of things to take that off your shoulders. Betty was a terrible duster, but she could get the bathrooms and kitchen sparkling and we loved the house right after she would leave. (Didn't love the mad scramble putting everything away before she arrived! LOL)
