Today's Topic: Fighting against food and/or weight-loss myths?
As a matter of background, I got into a bit of an argument with someone recently about COVID vaccine and drug (mis)information. This person is a serious conspiracy theorist, and while I should have just ignored their prompt, I let it get under my skin and argued with them.
Everyone in our little GOAD group has heard it all (at some point) and seems to be well-able to distinguish fact from fiction, or at least identify voodoo, magical thinking, and other mythical beasts related to food or weight-loss.
So, if/when you are confronted by someone who tells you something that you know is mythical (related to food and/or weight-loss), how do you deal with it? Do you engage or ignore? How do you go about it? Why? Maybe feel free to share a story with us that illustrates your approach?

I tend to distinguish between people who think things and people who believe things.
People who think things are people whose views are formed by their evaluation of what they observe in their life. Is essence, it’s a considered view that can consider other perspectives.
People who believe things take certain ideas as a matter of faith. Other perspectives are simply considered uninformed, and they discard facts or ideas that don’t conform.
I certainly discuss things with people who think a certain way. Once I conclude a position is a matter of faith, I no longer try to dissuade a person. It is, as they say, like arguing with a pig - you don’t accomplish anything and you just annoy the pig.
Or as Mark Twain said, “Never argue with a fool; people might not be able to tell the difference.”1
