Hello, I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jeanette. I am new to this group however not new to MFP.
I was on here about 8 years ago and was able to lost over 30 lbs. I stopped keeping up with MFP because I had my daughter. I struggled with balancing a new born, work, a family, house and all those wonderful joys life brings. MFP just wasn't in the cards for me at that time.
About a year and a half ago I had a hospital scare and shortly after was diagnosed with diabetes. I felt like my life was crashing down around me. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my daughter. The typical program the endo and nutritionist had me on was not working for me and my lifestyle. Being vegetarian for close to 30 years I began researching vegetarian diabetics. I came across Mastering Diabetes which focuses on whole food plant based no oil (WFPBNO) diet. I decided to give it a try. It was challenging at first as I felt I had to relearn how to cook, I love to cook. Now I absolutely love it. Within the past year and a half I have managed to lower my A1C and lose my diabetic diagnosis, incorporate exercise and shed 62 lbs. At my last doctor visit this past June my doctor told me I graduated and no longer have to see her every 3 months. Now I see her every 6 months. She also told me I no longer have to check my glucose however I opted to continue to do so because I feel it helps me stay focused and on track. I felt without testing and seeing my numbers it would be easy for me to slip into my old habits again.
Though I have made a lot of progress my journey was stalled in January when my mother passed away unexpectedly. She and I did not have the best of relationships. The events following her passing took a lot out of me. I kept with my exercise routine and WFPBNO but did not focus on my portions to ensure I stay in a deficit. I have always struggled with portion control. During this time I have managed to maintain my weight. I am proud of myself for that as I did not resort to my old habits that got me to this place. I decided in September it was time to focus on my weight loss again. I've been using my food scale to portion out my food and sticking to it. I also decided to change up my exercise regime and add in strength training. I am feeling great and am excited to embark on the next part of my journey.
I decided to search MFP forums for whole food plant based eating and stumbled upon this group. I am excited to be here and look forward to getting to know you all.

Hi Jeanette, and welcome! I sure can relate to the ups and downs of life threatening to derail your efforts at sticking with healthy habits, but it sounds like you're doing great! I am very sorry for the loss of your mother.
I'm running off to work so not much time this morning, but wanted to say hi. We run a monthly thread to check in with each other. You are welcome to join in there and always happy to see new threads as well.

Hi Jeanette! I was on SparkPeople for several year and lost 77 lbs. and kept it off. I was sad when SP closed--I actually stayed on until the very last moment. Came here but didn't get involved--Covid--and gained over half of the weight back. So I'm trying again. I believe I lost and kept the weight off b/c of WFPB diet. When I went off, I really went off. I'm hoping to lose the weight I gained. This seems to be a great group. I've only been in it about a month and it's already feeling like home. It's a good think; sometimes not too many people understand my diet, lol! Check in often!1

Hi momopeach. Welcome to the group! We run a monthly thread where everyone can check in with each other, but also please feel free to start your own thread any time as well. Are you currently WFPB or vegan/vegetarian?1
