The Place to Add and Comment on Resources Relevant to the Group

I'm going to start this discussion off by repeating a link to the Washington Post article introduced in the Announcements section of this group. Here it is:
For older adults, a protein-rich diet is important for health

The article includes recommendations from researchers. We're told that one professor says that seniors tend to lose muscle as we age and that that process can be "exacerbated" by not eating enough protein. Other issues associated with low protein intake by seniors are addressed. Advice from researchers on how much protein to eat in a day and the importance of spreading it out over the day is also provided. We are told that one researcher recommends eating 25-30 grams of protein per meal.

The article linked to in the post just above disses protein supplements in the final paragraph, quoting a hospital assistant director of clinical nutrition as saying that older people should not drink protein shakes in place of meals as it will decrease protein intake over the long term; no evidence is given to back this up.
