Changing Perceptions

OK, I was ruminating. Usually not a good idea but this time it seemed to yield something interesting. So when I was about 38 ish I was probably around 220 lbs. I lived in a Chicago suburb. The suburb had a commuter train. But I deemed the station to be too far to walk. The parking situation at the train was terrible. So I used to drive downtown to work.

So yesterday I was mulling this over and went on google maps to see what it might say about the distance from my house to that train years back. The answer? .6 miles. This hurricane business has wrecked my routine but for the last several years I have been taking afternoon walks in the 3-4 mile range. But here I was about 34 years younger but unwilling to undertake .6. Plus, between the train and the house there was a YMCA gym. Things could have been different. But I had that idea in my head that the train was “too far.” Didn’t even try it. Not once.

LOL - you led with “ruminating”, and that sent me off into “isn’t that chewing your cud?” 😊

It’s amazing how we can rationalize certain things based on your priorities at the time, isn’t it? Even today, when we’re all walking for exercise, we’re still circling the parking lot looking for the closest spot to the door.
