I had a busy day yesterday and my food intake was less than usual by the end of the day. I'm chalking the reduction up to that, but I don't expect it to last as more Holidays and events are on the horizon!

I had no trainer again Monday (still dealing with kids illnesses), but per her texts they are all doing better . . such a relief because of all the illnesses circulating like you talked about, Sarah. So far we've stayed healthy, other than hubby had a day of not feeling well due to finally getting the Prevnar20 vaccine his doctor has been bugging him about for a while now. I'm thinking I might have trainer on Thursday. I've still been working out (not yesterday though) but it's so much harder to get motivated without her, especially to lift weights. But, I did an Apple Fitness weights workout, so that's good. Sarah, weight training burns a lot of calories!

Sarah, I hope you will stay healthy while visiting your sister. When are you leaving on that trip? Your mall walking and steps are so awesome. I almost never get 10K steps anymore . . only on days I walk on the treadmill while listening to a podcast, lol. I hope you will be able to continue with your walks while visiting your sister.

Lois, I'm so happy for you that your daughter will be visiting. I hope that will be a big boost for you. I'm still sending my daily healing thoughts your way, and today for your hubby. Check in when you can and give updates on both of you.

Kelly, wow, I'm thinking about you a lot these days wondering if you're having winter weather like I'm having here (probably much more of it!). We have had a ton of snow! Our neighborhood is almost impassable. I'm so glad we're finished with our shopping, but there is one more shipment of packages we need to do today. I hope we can get to the Fedex store.

We won't be having our out of state kids visiting this year as we had everyone here last year. It's a bit of a downer, so I really look forward to my online playdates and family zoom (which we have tonight). Our latest family tv show that we all watched and will talk about tonight (once the kids are done with show-and-tells, and not on :# ) is Season 2 of "White Lotus" . . very adult show, but very suspenseful and well done, as was season 1 as well. It's fun to share a show and discuss it.

I'll check back tomorrow to read your posts.

Sorry to be a day late logging. I did weigh yesterday and then tried to get into MFP to log food and start the thread, but ran into trouble. I could get into MFP, but then could not log food or navigate on the site. I was having no trouble with other websites, so I finally decided that perhaps MFP was working on the site, and I planned to try again in the afternoon, but then the day slipped by. Anyway, the weight I posted above is yesterday's, and thankfully today, it's down to 131.2. But I always post Wednesday's weight. Since we will be on the road next Wednesday, I may not be able to weigh in that day, but I'll try.

Sheesh, I agree that this time of year, we have to just go with the flow. We do not have snow here, and I'm a little envious because I love snow and we seem to get less and less each year. Climate change I guess. Instead, we woke up today to freezing rain, so my morning class was cancelled, and that was the last one until after the holidays. I hope to do the routine on my own here at home later today. But honestly, I am having a hard time sticking to my goals. One goal for the past week was to try to include some higher intensity exercise. So one day, I changed up my walking and instead of doing 3 or 4 laps upstairs in the mall, and then going downstairs for 3 or 4 more, I changed levels every lap and tried to quickly go up and down the long stairs. My burn did go up, but the next day my left knee said "hello--what are you doing to me?" and so I didn't do that again. Nor did I find a substitute activity. :s

Yesterday, I had my annual physical, and I'm both looking forward to and dreading the results. She added a few new blood tests (a direct cholesterol instead of the usual because I forgot and had cream in my coffee and a celiac test because of this tummy thing). She is also testing my T4 again to see if the change in the thyroid meds has brought me back to goal. As usual, my BP was a little high and as usual, I rejected the idea of a statin. She said that if my cholesterol a lso continues to be a little high, we may have to look at a non-statin drug.

I suppose the good thing is that I passed the memory test and the balance test and she found no other issues--lungs, heart rate, etc. were good. I can't imagine how different it might be if I did not log my food and walk everyday that I can. Thanks everyone for being a big part of why I still do that.

Lois, I hope your hubby's surgery went well yesterday and that you're seeing more healing with your foot and leg. Sheesh, being able to have adult conversations with your kids sounds like such fun. I'll have to look into that show. Kelly, every day when I check the Winnepeg weather, I think of you and send good vibes your way. Be careful when walking the dog in all that ice and snow. And I hope that Katie is just busy with her new job and other life changes and is doing well.

Before I run, here are my 7-day averages for last week.

    Steps = 11,326
    Stairs = 12 floors
    Kcals burned - 1,763

My only goals for next week is to survive the holiday and get home again safe and well. We're a little nervous about being around a lot more people, including school-age kids.

I hope that everyone stays safe and well is able to enjoy some of the wonderful things about the season. I'm sure I'll be back here a few times before we take off. :)

Glad to see your post Sarah. Have a safe and happy trip. I wanted to tell you that my husband swears by "Airborne" when being around kids. I don't take it, but I take a multi vitamin, calcium, d3, and sometimes extra vitamin c and zinc when I'm going to be around my school age grandkids. And, when my knee gets sore, OsteoBiflex, which works like magic for me.

I was going to tell you about my knee pain experience with a knee doctor. It's true it was years ago (I was in my 40's) but I had really bad knee pain, so I went to a doctor who's speciality was knees. He checked me over, and told me I didn't have any issues that needed surgery, but that I really needed to strengthen my knees. He showed me exercises, which included leg extensions, one leg at a time, with forward direction and with hips angled to each side. Also, lying leg curls for hamstrings, and back of knees, band side extensions, and then gentle stretching after warm. Of course, squats and lunges very gradually adding weight. He told me to stop if the pain was ever acute. After several months of doing this a couple times a week, my knee pain went away. Here and there, I get some twinges that are a warning for me to do more strengthening and stretching and OsteoBiflex supps.
I'm not saying you should do the same, but maybe get examined to make sure there are no tears or other physicals issues with you knees, and then consider PT? Maybe less repetitive movement? More strengthening? Sorry if I'm coming on too strong, but my sister has had both knees replaced as did my mother. I think it's avoidable by keeping weight under control (you do), and other ways to do self care.

I really hope you have a nice trip! I wish I could see more of my family this year, but they are all grown up and I have to be happy for FaceTime and Zoom. <3

Little by little. Better down than up. I'm still sick... 1 week and 2 days after it all started. A couple days ago I thought it was gone, but when I woke up the next day, it was back now my voice is hit or miss.
Both kids have the same head cold and so does their Mom. It's definitely going around and around.

Sorry, just a quick post today. I'm going to lay down for a bit. I'll check back another day.

Oh my goodness. Kelly and I hope you and the kids get over the crud quickly and before the holiday really kicks in. Like Sheesh, my hubby swears by Airborne. We keep a good supply on hand. He makes me take it now and again (I have my multi and D3 that I take, but if he's around sniffly kids - even at a distance - he makes me take one). So far, we've been well, so who knows. Hubby's surgery went well. Doc found what he expected and the repairs were quick. In recovery, he told the nurse he couldn't breathe and his sats were low 80's. They sent him home with a spirometer. I have an oximeter and one that connects to my phone and will give multiple readings so we had that on him. My son ended up coming up that first night and then was upset with me that I didn't tell him sooner that I was going to need help. So ok. Until I brought him home and put the oximeter on him, I didn't know I was going to have that worry. Two weeks ago I sent them a text that I was going to need help with him at home during the first few days as he would be on anesthesia and I can't support him with my achilles injury. Wasn't that a clear - I need help? So my daughter in law came up, but had to leave about 630ish. I was ok with that until about 8pm when his sats dropped and stayed at 82. My son happened to text me as I was calling the triage line and that's when he said he was coming up. I'm glad he did, but it's hard to ask them to stay the night and "care for us". Anyhow, he's still battling the anesthesia a bit, but my in-home pt was here today and gave him assurance, what he's experiencing is normal. I also put some Vicks Vaporub on his chest and that seems to be calming him. My achilles repair is doing well. Doc wants me to step up my pt efforts in the range of motion side. so I'll stay with in home next week, the following week we're in Cali most of the time, but then will resume with outpatient on 30th and following week. I'm more mobile and hobbling around the house without crutches for the most part. I use my scooter when I need to rush to the door or to go to doc appts (long hallways). I did do the sleep apnea test as well last week. I got the results yesterday and I am borderline severe. I had 269 episodes in 8 hours! eek. And I was sleeping not flat in my recliner. So we've ordered the new cpap machine. Doc says it could take a couple of months with the supply out there. So hopefully, that will come in sooner rather than later and I'll feel a bit better. Whew. I'm so sorry to be so lagging on posting. Work is crazy with year end (normally we're not battling a year end number - new mgmt new goals). When I'm done at the end of the day, I literally fall asleep within minutes of sitting in my recliner for about an hour. Ok. I promise to check back over the weekend.

Hi, everyone. Thought I'd log before the day gets by once again. I read posts yesterday, but then did not have as long at my desk as I had hoped. It was another one of those days that did not go as planned. First, hubby headed out very early yesterday morning to his friend's farm and he hit a deer. Thankfully, the deer died almost immediately and so it did not suffer, but it greatly upset hubby, and of course the car was left with a big dent. He came in with news while I was MFP. Fortunately, he was only going about 35 mph, so he was not hurt, and the air bags did not go off. But now we have to deal with insurance and repairs. It could be so much worse, though. At least no other cars or drivers were involved. And then later in the day, a friend called and was very upset as she was trying to decide whether the time had come to put down her beloved cat that has cancer. So we spent some time with her. In the end, I did not get as much cleaning, packing, final gift buying etc. done as I had planned. Tomorrow we are meeting again with our financial advisor and hubby has an a.m. dentist appointment. But I still have a little time. I just hope that it stretches enough so that I can get a walk in each day before we leave and so that at least one night, we can get out to see Christmas lights. We had planned to get to the Mormon Tabernacle this, as their grounds are lovely, and we haven't been there for Christmas in quite some time. But this year, for some reason, you have to make reservations, and we have not had an evening when we knew exactly when we'd be free.

Kelly, I am so sorry to hear that you and the kids have been sick. Winter colds just seem to sap all your energy. I hope these are short-lived and that everyone is soon feeling up to snuff.

Lois, I'm glad to hear that your hubby's surgery was successful, and I'm sorry you had those scary times with his oxygen level. And I agree that your early statement about needing help the first couple of nights should have been pretty clear, but I'm glad your son finally realized the need and came over. Sometimes, just having another person makes things easier, even if nothing else changes. I'm glad you are finally seeing some progress with the foot, and oh my gosh, I'm glad you went ahead with the sleep apnea test. The cpap should make a big difference in how you feel.

Sheesh, we did check out White Lotus last night. We needed a break--a time to just relax. So we watched the first two episodes from On-Demand. I'm not quite sure what to think yet, but it is interesting--bizarrely interesting!

Before I go, I wanted to say that I hope everyone will be very careful over the next week or two, as holiday traffic increases and people's minds are on other things. I don't like traveling during the winter holidays, but with my sister's condition, we really have no choice. So be safe, have fun, and let's plan for a very good 2023. Start thinking about some things we can do here to get and keep each other motivated to be our healthiest, best selves. (And by the way, my cholesterol numbers have remained stable, so we're still in watch mode, and the celiac test was negative). Big hugs to all. <3

Lois - So glad to hear your husband's surgery went well, but wow that must have been stressful with his low oxygen levels. Glad he has improved. Great to hear that you're moving around without the crutches! Slowly but surely.

Sarah - Omigoodness! That's terrible about the car/deer. You're right though, it could have been so much worse and thank goodness it wasn't. It's more of a pain in the butt to deal with getting the car fixed now than anything. Good to hear your cholesterol numbers are stable and that it's not celiac. Safe travels over the holidays!

Sheesh - I've been hearing lots about White Lotus. Maybe we'll have to check it out. No clue what it's about but it's everywhere I read lol Hubby and I always look for new shows to get into. We're trying the Sopranos, but so far we're not really that into it. I've never really been into the mob story line of things.

    Happy Holidays all!

I'm finally starting to feel better. I have a lingering dry cough, but that's it. Ella is back to normal now but Tyler is still all stuffed up. Hopefully it clears before Christmas day.

Our weather is just silly. We're just finishing up with 4 days of straight snow and now we're in a deep freeze. Poor dog can't even go out for longer than a few minutes. I might have to look at getting him some little booties, as it's his feet that get the coldest.

I'm still plugging away with my 10k steps goal and on top of that I close all my apple watch rings everyday too. I just realized that my streak might come to an end in January, as we're heading on a hockey trip on a bus and it's a 12 hour drive. Might be difficult to get my steps in that day. I'll do my best though.

I hope everyone has a great Christmas! I'll be around home for the most part. We're heading to my parents place on Christmas day but that's about it. They only live about an hour away.
    I'll check back later.

Lois, I'm glad you're getting around a bit more and hopefully finally healing well, and hopefully you and hubby will have all this behind you both soon. It's been a painful and stressful time for both of you.

Sarah, I'm sure the deer incident was upsetting for your hubby and you. I'm glad it wasn't worse. Be safe on your drive to your sister's.

Kelly, thank goodness you're feeling better. I'm sending you healthy thoughts for Christmas. I sympathize with you on the snow and cold. . . it's been so cold here. We have a lot of snow, and now icicles hanging!

If you all watch White Lotus, start with season 1. It's different, but well done and entertaining. For adults, lol.

I had my trainer today, and I can tell I'm going to be sore, but it felt good to get a good weight training session with her. I get my Apple rings closed most days, but getting 10k steps is hardly happening these days. By the way, speaking of Apple, I don't know if anyone has heard about the new iPhone 14 ability to communicate with satellites for emergencies when there's no cell service, but my son and his team did that. There have already been a number of rescues and lives saved. I'm really proud. :)

So far, we're all pretty healthy. A few colds with grands. My hubby had to attend a memorial for one of his Alaska fishing buddies on Friday. He was a stubborn anti-vaxxer and had Covid at least twice, and been hospitalized twice for it. They put him on a ventilator, but he didn't make it. He had really gone downhill during the pandemic, and at 6'2" only weighed 137 lbs in Alaska this last Sept. and was very weak. He tested negative before they went and while there, but in November got sicker again. It's really sad for my hubby. Today he would have been 67 years old.

Daughter here and her family are coming to stay overnight on the 23rd (we call it "Christmas Adam" . . . comes before Christmas Eve :D ) and we'll open gifts with them on Christmas Eve morning. Then, they'll have their Christmas (Santa) at home. They've invited us to stop by in the afternoon. They live about 35 minutes away. We'll zoom with the Cali and Oregon families this year.

I'll be back for weigh-in on Wednesday. If you're already onto your holidays, have a Merry Christmas!

WOW. Ok. So I did pop in and was able to read some of the posts, unfortunately I overdid it and wiped myself out so I just couldn't find the energy to get onto the computer and update. Thank you all for the well wishes. I can see improvement in my foot/mobility just with the increase in my PT exercises. Though again, I may be overdoing as at night, it's super duper tired, swollen and hurts pretty bad. I have to take the 2nd tramadol and ibuprofen before I can rest/sleep. But I'm getting around more during the day and getting more stuff done. Hubby has been super mobile since the first couple of days since surgery. Almost too active for me, but he keeps biting back that he's not overdoing it...he's grumpy. haha. I will have in-home therapy today and tomorrow and then start outpatient therapy next week.

Sarah I am so sorry about the car/deer and challenges. I wish you and your hubby safe travels and enjoy your holiday time.

Sheesh - I am so sorry about your hubby's friend. That stinks, especially at this time of the year. Enjoy your Christmas Adam and Eve with your daughter.

Kelly - best wishes to you and the family that you clear the cold and illness and are able to enjoy your holiday time.
