Hey Guys and a few Lurkers. Do You Ever Think About This?

Sometimes I drift up to the top of the intro page and see this group started in 2016 with 256 members. All be it a move over from WW with them changing their board structure.
Now just a handful check in here and there's also a face book group and I'll slip over and post I'm here there daily and read about what's going on but I like the privacy of this board where I feel I can speak freely and even though FB is a private group it somehow doesn't feel the same. I can't really explain it.
However 256 is a pretty large number and I wonder how this MFP group posts would look if we even have 2,3,4 times the amount we have now. I love vigorous discussions and can remember when a thread could go on for pages and pages and days sometimes.
I guess people just get bored or move on and I don't want to mention the last thought about passing on.
My main thought for posting this is what makes the ones of us left on this board different? as far as checking in and posting. I know most of you are at goal and that's pretty cool however for me I'm no where close but I will attain it at some point and I know that because I did it once upon a time for 20 years.
Just a wandering mind on this fine crisp beautiful southern Georgia day.

One more thought since I'm a numbers guy.
That's 1/2 of 1% that started on this MFP Goad's Board.0 -
It’s a dismal thought, I’m afraid, and we’re cut off from a “feed” of new member we had back in the WW days. If you assume 99.5% of people stop their focus on weight management over eight years, that may be accurate. And I can tell you no one likes to post an “I’m back” thread and admit their failings.
What makes us the few, the proud, the GOAD? I’m gonna go with a blend of stubbornness and loyalty. But the reality is also that staying engaged with the weight loss community is a good way to help yourself stay engaged with weight management. And like Richard Gere said in An Officer And A Gentleman, “I got nowhere else to go!”0 -
I think those of us remaining remember that it's a death march (from someone's old comment, was it Tall Steve?)!1

To Charlie's "I got nowhere else to go" point, there's some real truth to that. Indeed, this is the only social media I post on. I gave up my FB, Twitter, Instagram (though I was rarely on that), LinkedIn, etc., accounts. Like you said, Derrick, I like the privacy of this space, and I do feel a certain sense of vindication as Elon Musk pulls back the curtain, at least partially, on the (not so) surprisingly close relationship between the government and social media companies.
Ultimately, for me though, this little place feels like an anchor in my weight-management efforts. I would like deeper and wider discussions, certainly, but I'm ok sitting at the bar with a couple of friends just chatting too.
If you want, we could break out some haiku?0 -
Well said Charlie and Steve I think I kinda pulled some of that haiku yesterday and kinda of bared it all I think on my Thursday LTL post. Man I went back and looked at post and did'nt realize it was so long. Oh well I guess I needed to get some things off my chest.0

I remember the glory days of Weight Watchers and GOAD but speaking of a Death March, what about the downward spiral of Weight Watchers in general.
- Closing down the boards where active members would come every day.
- Constant changing of the program to confuse the loyal.
- Changing the name to WW?? Giving up a well-known and respected name brand.
- Closing down every meeting location within 40 miles of my home.

IMHO, Changing the program makes us reevaluate our eating habits (recalibrate our eyeballs?) and make us more aware of our paths again.
With the new CEO we've reverted to Weight Watchers, with more emphasis on weight LOSS, and renewed focus on face to face "workshops". I truely hope this woman stays around awhile. I like her style, and assertiveness.0 -
Changing the program, and rolling out the changes just before the new year was just a way to get the resolution crowd back in the door. Come on in We’re New And Improved. Remember the “free fruit” rollout? My meeting turned into SRO.
Early on I vowed to not get in the “I’m back” group. Easiest way to that is not leaving.2
