Hello, all. I hope the first few days of the year have treated you well. For some reason, it felt good to type 2023.
I'm grateful to have lost that pound, or at least it looks like I've lost it today. I say that because my weight always fluctuates day to day.
I am not so happy that today's weight is 2 pounds less than it was a year ago (129.4 on January 5, 2022), but as I looked at the full trend of weight on Fitbit, I saw that I am 14.6 pounds less than I was in December 2015, when I switched from Body Media to Fitbit. I also see the big chunk of time when I stayed in the low to mid-140s, and it reminds me how easy it would be to go back there.
Over Christmas, when I needed some warm weather so I could walk outside at my sister's, it was in the single digits with wind on top of that. But for the last couple of days, it has been unseasonably warm here, and so I have walked outside for the past two days. Such a treat, but very odd. It should not be 53 degrees at midnight in January! I think we have a couple more days of warmth, and then we'll go back to more seasonable temps (and it will probably snow on Easter! LOL)
I've been able to get my 10K steps this week, but I have not been able to get the 12K or more that I was getting when I had someone to walk with. Here are my first 7-day average stats for 2023:
Steps = 10,899
Kcals burned = 1,759
Stairs = 10 floors
My goal for next week is to replace that one before the decimal with a zero and to get back into regular weights and balance exercises. My next door neighbor's mom, who is probably younger than me, fell last week and broke her humerous and her nose. Makes me so thankful that when I took that spill last year, I only broke my nose. It could have been so much worse. And it motivates me to put more effort into my bone builders class.
Lois, I hope that very soon you and your hubby will be fully recovered and that you'll have a long stretch of good health. I know you must be glad to see 2022 out the door!
Kelly, loved the videos you shared. Looks like you're having some backyard fun. I posted a short video of the Christmas lights in the town where I grew up, and then I realized this is a public-facing site and that that gives some PII that I might not want to have out there in the universe. So I'll try to send it by email later this afternoon. Just came back in to make this edit.
Looking foward to hearing from everyone. Have to pay some bills now and run errands once hubby gets back from an appointment. We are a one-car family until the deer damage is fixed. We're still waiting to hear back from the estimate.

Great job Sarah!!! A FULL POUND - DURING THE HOLIDAYS?!?! AMAZING!!! AWESOME!!! Celebrate that win!! Yes, our weight does flux daily, however, that's why we've chosen to weigh in on the same day every week, so there is at least that consistency. Keep on moving. And yes, I would agree that you staying active and healthy is aiding in less fractures if/when you fall. So important for us as we get older. Yes, I have to accept that I too am older. Hitting 59 this year and well aware that as I've aged, recovery is that much slower and harder.
Doc started me on antibiotics and stuff yesterday, and though I still have that super sexy voice, I am feeling much better. Coughing is less frequent and I think even less intense. I did cancel PT for today, thinking I should rest and not push it. I have ortho doc follow up tomorrow to remove sutures and then PT on Friday. I've not been as good at doing my stretches at home but I am moving around quite a bit more and my gimping, while still there is improving as well. Hubby started his PT this week as well. So we are on the road to recovery over here. The weather has been cold and raining. So much rain that my daughter has not been able to do any of her horseback riding lessons this past week. She really needs her Vitamin H. Hoping we have drier weather this weekend as the granddaughters are supposed to get on horses as well. Ok so Rhea is going to "meet" the horses, who knows if she'll actually get on one. Kelsie is excited as she hasn't been on a horse since her last lesson/trail ride with her Auntie last year when Mom passed. My daughter was going to buy a horse, unfortunately, she's discovering some issues with the horse that may alter that decision. She's such a pretty mare, but if the issues are extensive, she shouldn't proceed with the process. Anyway, hoping for some nice weather, I am looking forward to visiting the ponies (with some carrots in tow).
I still don't go upstairs where the scale is, so I'm not weighing in. My last weigh was fully clothed and after lunch and I was at 235, so up a few pounds from my naked and afraid weight. I'm concerned that it's more fat than muscle in my body, so I'm looking forward to getting into PT. I'll go easy this week, and then put more into it next week when I won't be thrown into a coughing spasm.
Looking forward to reading everyone's updates.

I'm going to chalk that up to the sodium in my lentil soup. It was a bit too salty. That is today's weight as I didn't remember to weigh Wed morning. I've been messed up on the days all week, lol. Cali grandkids are still on break, and I've been online with them a lot this week. We also had contractors coming in and out to pull out/ measure/ replace a bar fridge downstairs. It's such a small appliance, but somehow turned into kind of a nightmare. Too long of a story, lol.
Congratulations Sarah! That's a great reduction. And, thank you for reminding me how easy it would be to let the next level of weight gain to happen. . all too easy. So, my goal for this week is to get that through my head, and get my intake dialed in. It's a new year, and it's time to get serious.
Lois, dang it, another sinus infection! It sounds like you're making progress with your foot/leg though, so hopefully the PT will get you more progress.
No trainer Monday, but she came yesterday and I'm feeling it today. Daughter came over yesterday and we got an additional cardio workout together, so I had an excellent calorie burn yesterday. One day at a time.
Sorry for the late and short post. Gotta run.

Happy Saturday, everyone. And I say that tongue in cheek for myself, as I'm not in the greatest mood. There are lots of things happening. The cousin I mentioned in earlier posts died at 2 a.m. yesterday. Sixty is just way too young, and I think I mentioned that his older brother died at age 61 just one year ago this month. Both had congestive heart failure, diabetes, and some other problems. I think many were worsened because neither lived a very healthy lifestyle. We also learned that the long-time partner of another first cousin died of complications of RSV. She died Christmas Eve and was buried December 30, but we were not aware until a day before yesterday.
And hubby is still under the weather, and in addition to the chest cold, he's also complaining with a backache and various other things. It's frustrating to me sometimes. It's always something aching, be it legs, neck, back, etc. It's hard to believe that he's two years younger than me. And when he's hurting, his temper is short. This morning he washed some clothes and forgot to clean out a pocket. Consequently, some change got stuck in a seam at the bottom of the tub, edge up with just a bit of the coin showing. It made the cycle malfunction and was a real pain to get out. So, the Maytag got the brunt of his frustration, but I could hear his venting.
In the meantime, I have been making a huge batch of homemade vegetable beef soup so that we can take some up to our friends in Frederick who both have covid. We'll drop if off on their back deck. As I worked on the soup, I discovered that he had cleaned out the spice cabinet and there were several items missing. I decided just to punt and I'm hoping for the best!
I've also been dealing with my prescription drug plan. I mailed a check 8 days ago paying for the entire year. The premiums are low, and I didn't want to deal with paying monthly. Well, the check has not cleared my bank, so I called them on Thursday just to let them know that a check should be received soon. They were supposed to note it in my account. But then last night, I got a call asking me to call them. I got some guy in India who could not determine why they had called, but said calls are usually billing. So obviously, nothing had been noted in my account. I spent way too much time with him before he escalated me to someone else, who was not much better. I know that these people are trying to understand a language that is not theirs, and they are probably paid next to nothing, but it's difficult when you realize that nothing you are saying makes sense to them.
We're also now dealing with getting the car fixed from the deer incident. GEICO is really very good to deal with, but now everything is automated, and it still takes some time and patience. And goodness knows, I'm running a little low on patience! But such is life, and none of the things--other than the deaths--are that serious.
Sheesh, I was happy to see your post. I was beginning to worry. So many people have colds, flu, covid, etc. I've been messed up with days, too. No day has felt like the day it actually is for about two weeks now. Hubby and I keep asking each other, "What day is it?"
I thought once my class started back, it would be easier to keep track of the days. But unfortunately, there has been another delay due to some kind of repairs at the clubhouse we are using. So my class that should have started January 3 will actually start January 12. In the meantime, it's harder for me to get myself moving than it was before the holidays.
And mentioning moving, you all know that I've been dreading the closure of the mall that I've enjoyed walking in for the past 13 years! Gosh, I can't believe it has been that long. Well, the last anchor store (Macy's) is closing in about a month, and I doubt that the few stores left will survive for long once it is gone. So I have to face a big change in how I get steps in during cold, hot, or wet weather. Thankfully, I have my treadmill, but I don't want to be limited to that.
Kelly and Katie, hope you are both well and just busy. Hope to hear from you soon. Lois, I'm glad that the antiobiotic is working and I hope the PT will help you get your energy and mobility back.
Well, off to taste the soup. Wish me luck!0

Just have enough time to post my weigh in from last Thursday.
I'll be back tomorrow to read and post. My weight will likely be up as I just got back from a bus hockey trip all weekend where lots of beer and bad food was consumed lol0

            WOW. Good morning Ladies!
Great reductions Sarah and Kelly!! Way to Go. Sheeshe - yours is probably water weight from the sodium. I love lentil soup but I can feel the swelling. It's just in the soup itself, as I don't add extra salt when I cook. My friends know this and salt to their liking. My dad had hypertension (like me) when I was young so salt was removed and that's how I learned to cook. Flavor with garlic and onion and other spices.
So last Friday my work hosted a biometric scan. So fully clothed, and only a glass of water with my morning meds weighed me in at 239.2. So that will be my starting weight. Glucose held at 99, cholesterol is good (trigs were still high, but everything else balanced it, BMI _buahaha, and BP buahaha - though I did have one day with the home nurse where it was 129/89 so I submitted and "technically" passed. Hubby had similar except his cholesterol is way high. Hubby also had a physical with his dr. and the discuss was about eating healthier and reducing the weight. Then hubby turned to me and said, well, we need to throw out all of the holiday treats. WHAT?!?! WHY?!!?!? I eat them in moderation, I don't have to gorge on them. Now that he said that, I've eaten twice as many yesterday than I had since having them in the house!!! See, if they are there, then I don't need/crave them. Tell me I can't have them or you're throwing them away and I have to eat them before they are gone. Then I feel ill, whereas if I nibble here and there, I don't eat quite as much. Some days I don't have any treats. So I'm in a bit of a quandry. I don't want to sabotage him, knowing if it's there he must consume ALL NOW. He now checks my hiding spots so I can't even put some in the back of my cooking oils.

That was a loooong BRB. So long that it won't let me edit the original post. Ah well. That is the way of the world today. And I really need to get back to cooking. I'm hoping that if I say it enough, that I'll actually start doing it. So far that hasn't worked, but I am not giving up.
The sinus infection is clearing. I'm on my last days of my antibiotics. I can breathe and I'm not coughing like a barking walrus anymore. So improvement there.
When they took the sutures out, the surgeon came back in and while I made great progress on strength and walking, he did put more pressure on me about the flexion and stretching. I had PT this morning (owie and I'm tired). I felt some improvement in my home exercises because the bike used to hurt like the dickens and it took 4-5 mins for it to become uncomfortable and tired. That's a big milestone for me to notice. So I'm going to continue to work with my theraband every day to keep it stretched.
Sarah - I get it with the grumpy and pains of our spouses. And I hope I'm not that way with my hubby, but I probably am. But mine can be just as frustrating as yours is.
Sheesh - enjoy those grandkids. I think I mentioned my daughter is trying to buy a horse while she's in town. If she does, that gives me a good opportunity to spend time with the oldest granddaughter (Kelsie,10). I can swing by and pick her up and we will head to the barn to visit and groom my daughter's horse - or possibly take lessons that my daughter paid for but was unable to use due to weather and the trainer's availability. So that's something to look forward to doing. We were out there on Sunday and Kelsie was a ham on her horse showing off what she remembers on how to ride. She was such a cutie!
Looking forward to reading more posts.0

Wow lots of posts to read!
Lois - You seem to have a great mindset and are on the brink of getting back into it. I know how difficult it can be to get past our stupid brains. Once you make the stretching and what not a habit, it'll be much easier. Day by day!
Sarah - I'm sure we could all write books about how our husbands irk us I know I can and I've only been married for 4 years on Jan 26. Men... lol I know I can and I've only been married for 4 years on Jan 26. Men... lol
Sheesh - sounds like not so fun with the bar fridge. Why can't things ever just be easy, hey?!
We have been super busy, as per normal. I did end up having a sinus infection and my doctor gave me some amoxicillin, which I'm done now. I still have a tiny cough every once and a while, but other than that I'm back to normal. I was sick for most of December unfortunately. The kids got it and so did their Mom, but Shawn avoided it somehow. I still think it's because his immune system is better than ours, since he went to work throughout the pandemic and we stayed home mostly. Tyler ended up with a sinus infection too. We're all good now though.
Christmas & New Years were good but low key. We went to my parents on Christmas Day for dinner and brought the kid's Mom with us too. On the 30th we had a get together with most of Shawn's family at his sister's, which went well. New Years Eve we just stayed home and had a bonfire with a few friends.
This past weekend Ella had a hockey tournament in Saskatchewan (this province next to us), so Ella, Shawn and I joined the team bus for a 10 hour bus ride on Thursday and back 9 hours on Sunday. The trip was so much fun (minus the bus lol) but we ate and drank horribly. I was proud of myself as a managed to maintain my 10k steps a day and have continued to close all of my rings daily on my apple watch since October 28. I even hopped on the hotel treadmill one day for 45 minutes, just to make sure. Everyone else got a nap.
For my goals, I'm continuing to ensure I get my 10k steps a day, I close all of my apple watch rings and my new one will be to consume at least 2 of my 34 oz water bottles a day. It's a small addition to my goals, but one I've found to be trickier than I thought. Definitely attainable though!0
