Late night dinner effect

I am down 5 pounds and after working out, watching what I eat, I still seem to go up and down in weight. The major problem I believe is our late night dinners. Seems my day gets away from me, I realize I need to get my work out in, and before you know it we are eating dinner at 7pm. After dinner, I am pooped. Sitting, watching TV and struggling not to fall asleep on the couch after dinner and doing dishes doesn't help either. I remember somewhere I read no eating after 8pm. I wonder what time is the best time to have your dinner for better digestion and weight loss. ?????
