Well, I'm more or less staying steady. I didn't make it outside to walk yesterday after all. I just fiddled around and the next thing I knew, the winds started up and although the temps were mild, it just wasn't pleasant outside. Hubby had to work into the evening, so I cooked dinner and hit the TM in short bouts before, during, and after. I also did some of the arm exercises from my class, but instead of going upstairs to get weights from the bag I take to class, I grabbed heavier weights that were near my TM. That may not have been a good idea as I woke up during the night and realized that it was serious pain in my arm that had woken me up. But this morning, it seems okay. I'm going to rest it today and use lighter weights in class tomorrow. That old "showing off at the pool" injury is still rearing its head.
Today I have sort of an adventure. I have had the same hairdresser for more than 25 years. He knows all my cowlicks and stubborn spots, and I've only had one other person cut my hair one time since I started going to him. That was when he had a kidney transplant about 8 years ago. But the appointment I had 3 weeks ago had to be rescheduled. I was told he had to have some unexpected surgery a month ago with no further explanation. They first rescheduled me for last week, but then called and cancelled that one, too. That second time, they said that he may not be back in the foreseeable future. So I am having my haircut this afternoon by one of his staff (he owns the salon). I'm sure she's a good hairdresser, but I'm still a little wary. And of course, my haircut is 3 weeks over, so it's pretty shaggy and she won't have a lot to go on. I just hope that his transplanted kidney is okay and that he'll be able to regain his health. After all these years, I feel like he's a friend as well as a service provider. He's the one who was brave enough to tell me that he doesn't think I should color my hair because reddish hair is the hardest to maintain (I used to be a strawberry blonde) and that I'm "too lazy and too cheap" to do it that frequently. He knows me! And you've got to love a person who tells you like it is. And he's so good at what he does. During Covid, I went 5 months without a haircut, and although my style is one that needs regular trims, it grew out fairly gracefully. And all this reminds me that I should send him a get-well card and take some flowers to his daughter who is now managing the salon alone. I need to remember that it's not all about how it affects me (swift self-kick to the behind).
Well enough of my rambling. Here are my 7-day averages.
Steps = 23,074
Kcals burned = 1,782
Stairs = 18 floors
Will check back later.

Hi all,
Today is day 4 of my gut health journey and I'm feeling pretty great. Minus the not being able to drink coffee, it's all relatively easy, especially since I pre-prepped food like quinoa, brown rice and a couple different proteins. Having the right food on hand is also important.
Today is day 2 of zero coffee... zero. Not even decaf.
I don't know how I'm doing it. I love coffee, even just the flavor of it, but for gut health, they say its very acidic for your stomach, so to limit it to 3 days a week. I'm heading out of town on Friday for the night for our daughter's hockey, so I know I'll be having 1 or 2 there. The first week is all cooked vegetables to help get your body used to having so much veggies and they say that they are more easily digestible when they are cooked. I'm proud of how well I'm doing and so is my hubby. It's somewhat motivating him too, as he has started to work out more too. I'm still on my streak of closing all my apple rings in a day too.
Lois - Thanks so much for the kind words about me and Shawn with the commitment to the kids activities. It's definitely almost our whole life taken up by kids sports, but we love it... and we'll miss it when it's done.
Sarah - Ugh.. I know what you mean about getting a new hairdresser. I went to go book an appointment with my hairdresser only to find out that she no longer worked there. So.. I tracked her down lol
I remembered she had a hair instagram account, so I looked her up and found that she's working for herself in a different place. Phew.. crisis averted. I typically only get my hair cut twice (maybe 3 times) a year, but having a good hairdresser is important.
Sheesh - I was teary on the dog commercial too. I really liked it, even though I have no clue what it was for lol0 -
Good morning. Still too lazy to go upstairs before I eat/drink to weigh in (and the downstairs bath is too small to have the scale). So, I'm just moseying along with my fingers crossed. LOL. Had my Tuesday therapy yesterday and whew, that was TOUGH. Had to do a one leg stand...yeah...ok. so the injured leg cannot LIFT my body alone.. We've got some work to do. So now I have calf raises 3/day at home.
OMG - hairdressers! When we moved to AZ I drove to Cali every six weeks (more like every other week I was there...but then life got a bit normal and the spans grew). BUT every six weeks for my cut/color with my best friend and hairdresser for the first YEAR plus. THEN, my BF was going on an extended trip for her honeymoon and I didn't plan well for that, so I HAD to find another. I watched other hairdressers at the salon I would get my manicures, and I noticed a girl who did a lot of clients with curls. And that was Julie - who's been doing my hair for 27+ years. So ladies, I get it. I have natural curls that need to be cut a certain way (one side curls tighter than the other and if cut evenly, will look like it's cut uneven...so yeah I get it.
Kelly, hubby and I did a lot of calendar juggling for our kids in TKD and lots of travel. It was crazy and stressful while it was happening, but when it stopped, we felt like something was missing for a while. So yes, enjoy it while you have it.
Sarah - GREAT job on getting in your training solo. And yes, be careful to not overdo it.
We had quite the storm blow in last night. Our temps were mid 70's over the weekend and plummeted to 42 yesterday afternoon and into the 30's while we had rain and hail for a few hours. Today we have highs of 55 so I'm actually working with a sweatshirt on!!
And I'm trying to get my Highlander repaired from when the lady hit us in the parking lot the day of my 2nd surgery.

Oh, dear god! I just looked at the typo on my 7-day averages for steps. It was 12,074. Man--if I had an average of 23, 074, you'd be burying me now!

Kelly, you SHOULD be proud of how well you're doing with the gut health eating plan.
Be sure to keep us informed about how it's working. And way to go with closing those circles.
Lois, your high today is about the same as ours! We keep swinging back and forth from unseasonably cold to unseasonably warm. I know you'd like to be back to normal, but it sounds like you are making some good progress with PT. And gosh darn. Someone hit your car recently, too? You have just juggled more in the past months than anyone should be asked to do, and yet I still feel your positive vibe.
Got to run. Hope we hear from Sheesh soon. I know Wednesdays are busy for her.0 -

Eating more food does work lol I'm eating a bunch more real food, compared to the quick freezer food and it's clearly helping. I overall feel amazing.
And yep Sheesh, I get headaches from stopping the coffee but I'm pushing through. I did a few days of only doing 1 cup a day instead of my 3 or sometimes 4 (all black coffees), so it made it much easier. Today is day 3 and I haven't had any. I will have a cup tomorrow morning and Saturday though for sure.0 -
Good grief, I just realized I posted my update for this week on last week's thread.
Old age? Just jumped on to read everyone's posts better. I just finished cleaning up dinner, and it's time to start winding down.
Sarah, I'm glad you like "White Lotus". If you like Mike White, you might enjoy "Enlightened" on HBO Max. It's older, and has a number of seasons. I enjoyed it, but hubby not so much. Also, I hope you've seen "School of Rock". It's a good movie. We don't have Peacock, but I think a show my kids like is on it. It's called "Poker Face".
Gotta go join hubby . . l think there's a Jazz basketball game on the DVR.0 -
Oh my goodness, love the thread activity.
Kelly and Sheesh - when I went off coffee...oh man the headaches were bad. The 2nd time, I was recovering from some injury so I had my pain meds and it wasn't near as bad - but I don't recommend the pain meds. I do recall I relied on Tylenol the first round. I probably should do it again now, while I'm on the meds...but I just LOVE the taste. maybe I'll begin with half and half.
Sheesh - I jumped over and read your last post - I cracked up at your comment about your stylist...and like you, I'm sure Julie would do me if we weren't going for cremation as well!! haha.
Sarah - my car was hit while I was in recovery at my last surgery. Hubby went out to get the car ready for me to be discharged when the lady was pulling out and almost hit another car until he yelled at her and ran up to her car and banged on it. It was parked in the row behind our parking spaces. We were parked in handicap spaces with wheel chair access lines ON BOTH SIDES and she still managed to hit us..I think she turned before pulling out. She was driving her sister's car and that insurance company is saying that HER insurance (that she carries on her own car) is responsible since she was driving. And, get this, the driver that hit us has a CDL...oh lordy. So I'm in a battle and ready to call my insurance company and pay the deductible.
Kelly - it's amazing how much food you get for the same calories when not doing the fast food or frozen options. I feel like we get a fair amount from the Factor meals we've been ordering.
Thursday therapy was INTENSE. And he'll be increasing weights and the band tensions next week. I'm going for my walk soon and adding a house each day. Still have to do 3 rounds of toe raises/calf stretches as well as 30 mins of bandwork to work on the stretching.
Work today is a bit crazy, we're going through some software conversions, so along with printing off contact information etc just in case something goes wrong with Outlook or I need to call someone before OUtlook is set up on my phone again, I won't have my contacts on my phone for the weekend. EEK. REmovin mail and contacts from the office server so we're all going through a little panic mode and praying we have everything we need when we're back up and running on Monday. We each have an appt to get our systems loaded individually and I've go mid morning. YAY.
Ok. preparing next round of files.

Happy Saturday. Wow, Lois. Some people just should not drive! A number of years ago, I was in my doctor's parking lot, and had to stop to wait for a person who was pulling out. As I sat there, a woman backed out of her parking space and hit me broadside--thankfully in the back door and not the driver's door. And then she made a sharp turn and starting driving away. I yelled at her ("hey lady, you hit my car!") and she stopped and yelled out the window that she had to get to another appointment!
I won't go into all the details, but eventually she called her daughter who arrived and apologized profusely and told me that her mom had a lot of medical problems and just wasn't thinking straight. Her insurance, which I think is one of those companies that cater to the hard-to-get insurance folks, also dragged their feet, so Geico told me they would pay for the repairs and they'd deal with the other insurance company. And they didn't even charge me a deductible since it was not my fault.
But that is not the end of the story. Several months later, hubby and I were coming out of the supermarket when we saw a lady pulling out of a parking space, and when she was about in the middle of the lane, an SUV just pulled out of an opposing parking spot and rammed her. And as we stood there, I suddenly realized that the SUV driver was the same woman who hit me! So hubby gave the other driver his business card and told her to tell her insurance company that he witnessed the accident. I hope that after that, this lady's license was suspended. She really was a danger to herself and others.
And a postnote regarding the haircut: it's not terrible, but it's certainly not the cut I usually get. With my regular stylist, I just wash and let it air dry, if need be, and I don't have to wash or wet it every day. But with this cut, I need to blow it dry and do it every day. It's just not the same, and dealing with it got my mood going in the wrong direction this morning. Hopefully, my next appointment will be with Dominic.
Hope everyone has a good weekend. It's still very cold and windy here, but the rain has stopped and the sun is shining today. It's not fit weather to walk outdoors, so my plan is to do the routine from my class and spend a little time on the TM. Lois, we also do the toe raises and calf exercises in this class. My instructor says they're important for balance and that everyone (except the young) should do them regularly. I wish I could also find some latex-free bands. I have apparently developed a latex allergy during the past couple of years (never had it before) and even the bands I got that were advertised as latex-free make my hands turn red and itch. I should probably try to buy them from a medical supply store and not just order them on the old WWW!
