Setbacks aren’t a failure of your self-control; self-control fails you—it’s unreliable.

This is one of WW’s more twisted statements, and I’m not sure I buy it. I didn’t fail; my ability to control my urges failed me?? Is there a DSM-5 code for that?0

Dunno. Makes perfect sense to me. YOU didn't fail, your self-control did.0

I also don't buy it. Self-control, by definition, is a process of the self. Indeed, I often think that the only thing we can manage is our self/self-control. It's the temptation that is external to you to that you don't have control over (though, of course, you can manage your environment by excluding things that are challenging for you).
The Jewish perspective is that we have the "yetzer hara" (sort-of translated as the evil inclination) that tempts us to stray from the correct path. Our job is to battle the yetzer hara and overcome the challenges that it puts against us.1
