There are lots of “tips and tricks” out there to help us lower the calories/points associated with what we eat. What’s something you’ve tried and concluded, “well, THAT was a bad idea!”

Lettuce wraps instead of bread or a bun. Whether it’s for tacos, burgers, a sandwich or whatever, it just doesn’t work for me. Nothing wants to stay in that lettuce, and it ends up collapsing and spilling food down your front. That’s just a BAD idea.2

protein bars and meal replacement shakes! Sorry that does NOT satisfy me, and I have never found one I am willing to eat twice!2

I haven't had one for a long while, but I always thought the lettuce wrap at Jimmy John's was pretty clever. Better yet, though, is the "sub in a tub" from Jersey Mike's. With that one they're not asking the lettuce to be part of the structural support.
My "bad idea" was PB2. I gave it a try when lots of others on the old WW boards were recommending it, but I quickly realized that the texture (yes, that's the oil and fat!) of regular peanut butter was a big part of its appeal. The powdered substitute was sadness in a jar!1 -
I don't mind lettuce wraps. But, the lettuces have to be sturdy; I only want Romaine.
While I don't mind some protein bars, I really can't do the meal replacement shakes. They usually do not taste good, and they certainly do not give me any lasting sense of fullness.

I should probably be embarrassed that I like some of the "tips and tricks!" I know I'm supposed to hate shirataki noodles, for example, but I like having them once-in-a-while. I do like lettuce wraps, but only when used as intended...for lettuce wraps (and not burger or taco wraps). I've never tried meal-replacement shakes, but I used to make low-calorie shakes per some recipes that MamaCin shared with me and thought those were pretty good. I'll eat a protein bar occasionally, but only if I need to have something in my pocket while doing something that prevents me from having lunch.0

No fat cheese.
I’ve tried meal replacement shakes. But the outcome was I’d drink the shake, be hungry in 30 min, and then go eat lunch as usual.0 -
The cookie replacement meal was the worst for me. I've actually had good luck with shake replacements but as soon as I stopped drinking them the weight went right back on.0
