Happy hump day! I'll make this quick since I'm a bit under the weather today and I have zoom class that is part of my certification to teach Bone Builders that starts in less than an hour. Thankfully, it's a zoom class on the adminstrative tasks so I'm going to try to suck it up and make it. I think I'm coming down with whatever hubby had. I realized that my throat was sore as I was headed upstairs to bed last night, and I woke up with that "just not well feeling." I hope this is short-lived as I also have two in-person trainings over the next week. The timing is just not good.
I checked the weather map this morning and laughed when I realized that it's about 15 degrees cooler here in Maryland than it is in Winnipeg. Sounds like you're getting a break from the cold, Kelly, and I hope this doesn't mean flooding. We still have to deal with some of the issues we've had with the overflow of gutters and ground saturation. Yesterday, it was raining once again and we needed coats--not hoodies or light jackets, but coats. Part of that was due to the wind chill. However, I can see out my office window that our two-story tall rhododendren is starting to bloom. I will try to post a picture of it once it's in full bloom. They normally don't get anywhere near this tall.
I'm happy to say that that even with the toe issue, I was able to increase my steps just a bit, and my kcal burn and stairs were a tiny bit better, too. Here are my 7-day averages:
Steps = 10,700
Stairs = 14 floors
Kcals burned = 1,720
I will be back soon to see how everyone is doing and chat a bit. There's a few things I need to do now to get ready for that class.

I will take that 1.9 and be happy!!! Dealing with (TMI - close your eyes) but serious diarrhea the past few days. I took an Imodium this morning. I took one last week as well, but I waited to long this round and was just about crying last night and told hubby I was going to quit this program. It's a hard program and some of the bars and and "fuelings" are good - but who can argue with chocolate pudding and chocolate brownies? I have 4-6oz of sirloin steak with a massive bowl of 2c romaine, 1/2c celery and 1/2c cucumber. For dressing it is either ken's 1000 Island or a balsamic I bought a local olive mill a few months back. I have about 12 almonds as a "grazing snack" throughout the day - one here, one there. Sometimes I'll add an extra "salad" in the evening, but I've only done that a handful of times. So the fuelings are shakes, bars, and the above pudding/brownies. I am meeting a visiting cousin for dinner tomorrow night, but I already know that I'll have the spicy salmon and veggies (White Chocolate Grill - and oh so yummy). So I swear it's about 1000 cals a day. But I'm working through it.
Sarah - GREAT REDUCTIONS!! Stay focused. And I'm happy to see you getting that certification. As I said before, I think you'll find you enjoy it.
PT has increased weights and adding exercises to my "routine". I came home quite tired yesterday and I needed both of my pain pills last night to quell the ankle. My PT really went at the scar tissue and I felt it as I was trying to sleep. But we've got break it up. I have PT tomorrow. Rhea on Saturday so I've got a bit on my plate at the moment.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's posts this week.
Have an amazing week.0 -

Up and down and up and down.
Life has been slower here but for some reason I feel just as busy. The kids have had a break from sports for a bit, but are starting ball hockey back up next week. On one hand it'll be nice to have something to go out of the house for, on the other hand because they're older now, they play later and with me waking up at 4:45am on weekdays, that's gonna be tough. Ah well.
I just finished week 9 of a 13 week workout program called 645. I'm really enjoying it. It's 45 minute workouts, 6 days a week with body weights and free weights, mobility and stability. I have definitely improved in many areas. Hubby is also doing it but is just finishing week 5.
Trying to get my eating habits a bit more in check.
Sarah - Oh so close to those 120's. Great job, despite the toe issue. Hopefully it resolves itself soon. Or will you have to see that podiatrist? Yes, our weather has been super nice these past couple of days. Haven't really been able to enjoy it a ton, as I'm stuck in an office all day, but after work yesterday we were in the backyard for a bit and then up on our balcony later on. Every little bit of sunshine helps. Luckily we haven't had any flooding, so I guess the floodway is doing its job. I think we're supposed to see a long bout of rain coming though, so we'll see.
Lois - Awesome job! There's obviously something in whatever you're eating that's not agreeing with you. Do your bars and shakes have any artificial sweeteners in them? I find that can do a number on me. Or sometimes, if I haven't eaten a ton of raw vegetables in a while, it can take a bit for my body to adjust. Cooking them helps, but hard to do that with salads. Keep on keepin' on girl!
Sheesh & Katie - Hope all is well with you. Looking forward to reading your posts.0 -

Argh . . no progress is so frustrating. Especially since I've been doing really well. Today when I expressed frustration to my trainer, she suggested another measure next week. She says I've been lifting heavier, and she sees my workouts on Apple Watch, so she is also wondering.
Sarah, you ARE so close to the 120's! Congratulations! I had to chuckle at the "man cold" comment. Oh boy, that is a real phenomenon.
I hope you're feeling better . . sounds like you caught hubby's cold. You're doing so great with getting certified for Bone Builders classes. I want to take a class from you! I wonder what's happened to your toe? Sometimes the side of my nail rubs against the neighboring toe to cause soreness. I wonder if your shoes are too tight across the toes? Feet and toes are so sensitive and really hurt with any issue. I've had to go to size 6-1/2 for workout shoes. Used to be a 6.
Which, also makes me think of you, Lois. I'm so sorry about your toenail. Ouch. But, congratulations on another great reduction, and pushing through with P.T. and movement. I agree with Kelly, there's something in the food that you might be allergic to or at least sensitive to. And, a lot of raw veggies gives me the runs too, lol. Maybe you could ease into that by lightly steaming veggies instead. It sounds like a strict program though. I was thinking about my calorie goals, and when I'm trying to reduce I'm right around 1K to 1,200 calories/day, and I barely get results there. Being older and short (5'3" for me) really brings the daily requirement so low. It's hard to get all the nutrients in. I have to take supplements for that. Hang in there . . you're doing so great.
Kelly, good reduction! And your workout sounds so great! Congrats. We've had such nice weather and luckily only a few rivers needing sandbags so far. Our peak snowmelt runoff isn't until June, so we'll see. Fingers crossed. Today some rain is forecast. My flowering tress are looking so pretty. When you were talking about your kids staying up later, I was remembering back to that time in my life. I remember going to bed before my kids quite often. I would set an alarm to go check on them to make sure they were home and actually asleep, lol. It's a change for sure. Now, I laugh at my daughter whose almost 14 year old daughter wants to stay up later.
Katie, wow. That workout sounds so hard. Looking forward to an update on that and how everything else is going in your life.
I've been really busy lately with family, friends, workouts, my sister, housework, yard work, and getting some things updated around the house. No different from everyone I'm sure. I don't know how I also worked at a job, lol! My friends who still have jobs (2) ask me sometimes, "What do you do all day?" I swear I feel like I'm more busy now.
But, maybe it's just because I'm older and probably moving at half the speed.

Great job Kelly! I feel ya for being tired. When my kids were younger and they locked onto TKD...their class wasn't over until 8p and 9p. Like you, I was up at 530am and I could NOT stay up for them. I relied on their dad to pick them up and bring them home. I've never been a stay up late kinda gal/mom. I would stay and watch only their Saturday classes. Bad mommy - I know, but I can't function staying up late all of the time. Hence why I don't see my hubby often as he gets home between 930 and 10 (and so happy to work from home because I can visit with him intermittently during the workday/lunch etc.
Sheesh - staying the same is better than a gain, so keep at it. I bet you'll see changes when your trainer does her measures.
I would have thought the fresh veggies possibly as well, except that when I was ordering in, I was eating raw veggies in my salads and wraps just about every day. And yes, the bars and such have stevia, monkfruit and some other sweetener as well as xantham gum. I was more focused on not getting headaches from the sweeteners, I forgot how sensitive my stomach can be. So Imodium is joining the pill dispenser - going to try every 2 days so that I don't have the opposite problem. Hubby is so supportive. He actually talked me off the ledge of just throwing it all in the trash. My bottom was very sore - I was very unhappy. Today has been better.
Looking forward to Katie's check in.0 -
Enjoyed reading everyone's post. I am truly sick today. I was not able to attend my class this morning or go and observe a class this afternoon. My temperature is normally 96 point something and it's almost 100 today. Plus everything hurts--my head and every joint in my body. I will be lucky to hit a thousand steps today. Good news is that I've tested twice for Covid and was negative both times, plus hubby was also sick and he had a significant turnaround the day after his worst day. So I hope I feel much better tomorrow.
Sheesh, I've also moved up to a 6-1/2 running shoe and I usually wear Brooks Ghost, which has a wide toe box. But I do think my newest Brooks have a narrower toe box than my older ones. And I think as I've aged my toes have changed shape a little so that one toe does rub against the other. I suspect it's something more common among us with very high arches--and as we age . . . (Don't you hate that?) And people who work also ask me what I do all day, and honestly, time goes more quickly than it did when I was working full time.
Lois, congratulations on losses two weeks in a row! I do hope you can figure out what is triggering the tummy issues. I know you were looking forward to getting on this new program. Good for your hubby for his support.
Kelly, a .8-pound loss is really good for us shorties. And good for you for your persistence in getting in activity despite work, the kids, and all the things that we all have to do. It's amazing how much time household chores, cooking, laundry, etc. takes.
Well, I'm off to rest. Wish I was off to do something more productive, but not today!

Aww Sarah! Hoping today is a better day for you and you're on the upward trend. Colds suck. I especially hate when I can't breathe out of my nose when sleeping, as I'm not much of a mouth breather. The worst is when you have no energy though. Rest up, tons of fluids and hopefully it passes quickly.
Lois - I might have to either adjust my workout schedule or just miss some of their games. Problem is I'm a fairly light sleeper, so when they come home at 10 or 11, I'll be woken up and I'll have a hard time falling asleep again, so I almost may as well just go lol It'll take some figuring out and adjusting.
Sheesh - It sounds like you're just increasing your muscle and losing fat, and that's why your scale isn't showing movement. But it'll be good to see what your trainer says with the measurements. I know how frustrating not seeing the numbers move can be. How are you feeling otherwise?0 -
Oh no Sarah - feel better! Hoping you feel so much better today and tomorrow.
Kelly - same with being a light sleeper and I think by my not watching their tkd classes, even though they came home as I was going to bed, I wasn't as amped up as I was from being at the studio and energized by the activity and interaction from the other parents. BUT REMEMBER - the kids are only kids for a super short time, so if you can adjust your work schedule - that would have been my option. That was an option for me way back when. I'm now trying to figure out how to incorporate the grandkids activities when they're almost an hour away each direction on a weekday. A couple of times I was in the car and just on my way and had to turn around for something for work (mainly when the sales team calls0 -
Ok. I forgot to add that I did my self measures today and down 4" between bicep, belly and chest. So...there's that.

Feeling a little better today. Yesterday, was rough. I do not do sickness well! Hubby went to a volunteers meeting last night, and I told him to tell all our friends there that I hoped they'd all come to my funeral.

While he was away, I got on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I knew he'd have a fit if I did that while he was here, but I just couldn't end a day with less than a thousand steps. I had to take one water and rest break about halfway through, but I managed to get a little more than 5K. Decided not to push it from there. We had planned to drive to Thanksgiving Farm today and buy plants for out back, but I just didn't have the energy. And hubby is still not up to par from his bout with this at the end of last week. I'm disappointed, though. We are having lovely weather today after a long bout of rain, winds, and colder than normal temps. But I know that you can make plans, but you can't necessarily control the outcome. We still have time.
Sheesh, you mentioned your sister, and I wanted to ask how she's doing. Mine is still struggling with her chronic pain. After a lot of PT, she was finally able to walk short distances with a walker, and then she suddenly started having severe pain in one leg. They're still trying to determine the cause.
Yeah, Lois for losing those 4 inches. You're on your way!
I haven't walked yet today (and it's almost 6:30 p.m.), so I need to see if I can do a little. I don't expect to be back to normal for a few days, but want to do a little something. Have a great weekend everyone.

Oh shoot, Sarah. . sorry you're sick. Don't push the walking too hard, and lots of fluids for sure. Do you take any vitamins, especially containing zinc? I swear zinc helps me with colds and sickness, but you do have to be careful if it affects your tummy. Take care.
Lois, 4" is amazing. Congratulations! I'm with your hubby that you need to keep with the program a while longer before you can truly judge if it works with your body. It takes at least 2 weeks to adjust to a change in diet. Then, after that you'll be better able to know whether your body can tolerate the changes. But, you're getting great results!
Kelly, I hope you're right that I'm adding muscle, and I know I have to take my own advice and be patient about these things because changes in body composition takes time. Otherwise, I feel great. After you asked me that and I thought about it I realized how good I feel and how grateful I am for that. I got through the pandemic without getting Covid at all that I know of, even though hubby got it. And, I've had almost no sickness other than some allergies of late. I've had quite a bit of energy for an old lady, lol! So, I have to remember that. It's what's most important.
I got to hang out with my grand baby and daughter here for a few hours on Friday, and today we're all going to the AAA baseball game in the city, an afternoon game. Yay, baseball season! It's been a cool streak of weather, do we'll dress in layers. I'll be thinking of Sarah while at the game
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Sheesh, hubby uses zinc lozenges and thinks they help a lot, but they make my mouth super sore, as if it has been burned, so I can't use them. Luckily, this illness is passing fast. I'm about 80% normal now I think. I just need to slow down in the afternoon and rest, which is something I don't normally do.
We did make it to Thanksgiving Farm yesterday and bought $200 worth of plants which is less than half of what we'll need. And we had already bought $100 worth of ferns, plus some herbs and a large hanging basket. But I just love plants!
And regarding baseball, although we are not winning a lot of our games, these young guys are still pretty amazing and we are seeing some great baseball. I watched part of last night's game on the treadmill and it was a heart stopper. We were losing 7 to 3 at the top of the 9th inning, and managed to tie the score. Unfortunately, our closer was having an off night and the Diamondbacks scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Thanks for thinking of me and yes--Yay, baseball!
And Lois, I thought of you when our announcer said that it was 85 degrees with low humidity. You must be loving this. Hope it holds through the weekend and that your tummy is doing better.
Well off to do some chores that have gone begging while I've been under the weather.0
