Holding my own. Yesterday was a challenge both with intake and steps. I spent a chunk of the day preparing food for a cookout with friends up in Frederick, traveling, and sitting while socializing. Like last year, we also took in the city's fireworks from the top of one of the parking garages. We are able to get up there because one of our friends works for the city. I was able to get in a half hour on the treadmill before we left home, and I had planned to get at least another half hour in when we returned. Key word there is "planned."

Last year, everything went fairly smoothly with the fireworks part. But this year, there were more people in town, and we literally got trapped in the parking garage in our friend's SUV, waiting in a long line for more than an hour. By that time, the fumes were getting unbearable, as people were running their engines for the air conditioning. Finally, our friend got out and walked down to the entrance to see if he could direct traffic (he had his employee badge). But traffic was backed up on the one-way street as far as he could see, so there was really nothing he could do to move traffic from the garage into the street. Finally, a single friend who was also with us (did I mention I was also sitting on the hump in the backseat since there were 5 of us!!) called the city police and asked if they could lend some assistance. Whether that happened, I'm not sure, but finally we got out of there. However, that pushed our getting home to after midnight. So my plan to get back on the treadmill went to naught. Oh well, it was just one day.

So here are my 7-day averages, which are not as good as I would like:

Steps = 10,404
Kcals burned = 1,661
Stairs = 14 flights

I just seem unable to get that burn up. I finally reset my goal on the fitbit dashboard from 1,800 to 1,725--but I'm not even reaching that. I only hit 1,700 or above one day this past week. I'd settle for a while to just reach it a few times a week--to see some progress. So my goal for next week is to burn 1,725 kcals on at least 3 days. Then maybe I can inch forward.

My life is still being affected my hubby's back pain. By the time we got home last night he was in a lot of pain and that has carried over into today. It's hard on me because he cannot get out do things that I want us to do, and of course when someone is uncomfortable, they tend to be cranky. There are times that I'm sad because he's dealing with this. There are times that I'm frustrated and angry because watching someone laying on a heating pad when I'm chomping at the bit to get out and about is hard, too. I'm afraid to pray for patience because I've always been told that will guarantee you more opportunities to practice it! So you gals pray for it for me. :D

    Ok. I own it. We travelled to California and I did eat what I wanted (though not "out of control"). We enjoyed )sushi (rice is not on my plan), some empanadas and sia pao (Filipino steamed buns with bbq pork). These also were not on plan. But I had a great time with my daughter and son in law at their new home. We first stopped at our older neighbor's (they were 3rd and 4th moms to me growing up as a child - one is my godmother from confirmation), then headed to Rose Hills and tended to Mom's grave. Enjoyed a picnic with the Filipino treats and then drove 2 hours south to Oceanside and my daughter's new home. We spent time at the stables as she took care of her horse, Ripley. Sadly - there was ZERO cloud cover and it was HOT! UGH. Beautiful day, but not if you're doing work cleaning an outdoor horse stall and such. Also, I wore cotton blend yoga pants (expecting cloud cover) and was sweltering. Concerned for heat exhaustion truth be told. I downed 3 bottles of water in the 2 hours we were there. A couple of our high school friends drove down and met us for dinner and then stayed until late visiting. So happy to see them as well. We drove home on Monday and had busy, but flowing traffic. Yesterday Rhea and her parents came by for a visit (and to pick up some Filipino treats). She played in the splash pad in the back and then we all enjoyed the pool for a little while. Her swimming is progressing, still needs to stay in lessons, but if she were to fall in, she can get to the side of the pool. I grilled some burgers, mac salad and green salad. Not a crazy spread. Back to work today and therapy resumes tomorrow.

    Have a great week!

    Boo. That number is optimistic because my digital scale was flashing 134.2 off and on, but settled on 134.0. Yikes. I'll blame it on last weekend that carried over into July 4th. I've been back on eating and workout plan today.

    Yesterday we celebrated by going to an early morning outdoor breakfast and parade in the park. It's a small community where my hubby grew up that's actually in the middle of the valley between Salt Lake and the southernmost suburbs. It feels like a small town and most of the people there know each other. Hubby always sees old friends. Our daughter and SIL and the baby drove up, and it was a lot of fun. They have a 5K race (I might try to do it next year . . although it was soooo hot!), a hot breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, Tang ( :D ), and coffee. Then we settled onto our blanket and chairs for the parade, after which there was jumpy house, magician show, the playground, and an antique car show on the lawn of the park. We were so hot and exhausted afterward, we came home and I actually napped! I can't ever nap it seems, but I sure did yesterday. Then, hubby and I just grilled burgers and walked down to the ridge of our neighborhood to watch some fireworks in the valley from there as we were too tired to go out anywhere.

    Lois, your Cali trip sounds great. . I'm glad you were able to catch up with so many friends and family. I think your gain is pretty minimal considering your trip and I'm sure you'll get the small increase off quickly. Hopefully your therapy went well today.

    Sarah, you've kept your activity up really, really well. And congratulations on a reduction even with a holiday. Great job. I have a very difficult time getting 1700 calorie burn per day. So, I just have to keep the intake low, unfortunately. Your parking garage situation is what happens to us every time we go to the theater downtown. Ugh. It takes us 30 - 45 minutes to get out of the parking garage after the show, but there's really nowhere else to park unless it's far away.

    I'm off to our family zoom soon. Our oldest and her kids are in Honduras with friends and family, so they won't be on. I can't wait to see her girls as they finished their scuba certification there with their first open water dive! Our oldest granddaughter had her 14th birthday while there! Wow, it's hard to believe she's 14.

    Have a great week. Stay cool.

    Sheesh - the parking garage scenario is the main reason we don't go anywhere. Hubby and I used to camp out at the Discount Tire parking lot, with a fan with a water sprayer and sit outside and wait for the fireworks. We would scoot out just before the finale and watch that from the car to avoid the onslaught of traffic. We were 3 miles from home and it still would take us 40 mins to get home. Now we just either buy our own or watch whatever we can see from the neighbors. Rhea is not a fan of the booms and noises so it's become a more mellow holiday for us.

    Sarah - I was perusing my calendar - it looks like you're going to be having a birthday celebration this weekend. I hope your hubby is feeling better and you are able to do something fun to celebrate!!! Happy early birthday as I am rarely online on Sundays!! ENJOY!!

    Thank you, Lois. <3 I think it will be a good weekend. Some good friends whose wedding anniversary is two days after my birthday have invited us and another couple for dinner. I'm looking forward to spending time with all four as we haven't seen much of each other this summer. Hope you also have a good weekend.

    Thanks, you guys. I appreciate you remembering my birthday. We did have a lovely time at our friends' house. One couple who had been invited had a medical issue pop up and could not make it, so the hosts invited another couple to make the fourth pair. It was fun to meet new people as well as catch up with old friends.

    It hit me yesterday that I have done very little this week to get my daily kcals burned up a little higher. We've been in a very hot spell with thunderstorms and lots of rain almost every afternoon, so I think I've just been focused on getting my walking done. I've looked at steps but not calories burned. And so every day, I've been in the low 1600s, and not the low 1700s that was my goal for this week. I also seem to never remember to lift weights on either Saturday or Sunday, which are the only two days that do not bump up to a class day. I hope by acknowledging that here, I can do better for two days left before weigh-in.

    Again, thanks for the birthday wishes and happy Monday to all.

    P.S. After I posted this, I looked at my 28-day stats on Fitbit and noticed that the days I burned more than 1700 kcals were not necessarily days when my steps were higher or when I attended class. One was a day when I went sofa shopping but did not get above average steps. So maybe I should shop more? LOL
