This August I Will…

I’m getting a very late start to August. It was an absolute delight to catch up and read your posts! @TerriRichardson112….wow! I love the poems that you have shared with us! They are melodic, heartfelt, and just lovely! Please keep them coming! And @77tes, great job on your sewing projects! I love your hat!
I spent the first part of August visiting my family in Virginia… especially my elderly parents who live in a nursing home. It’s so painful to watch people you love go through the last chapter of their lives. My dad had a terrible stroke four years ago and is now paralyzed on his left side. He still believes that all he needs is a plan to restore him to his former self… why won’t someone just give him the plan? My siblings and I don’t have the heart to tell him that 80 somethings don’t recover after a stroke. I’m not sure dad would believe us anyway, he is unflappably optimistic.
My Mom lives in a separate apartment In assisted living and rarely leaves her apartment. She wants her meals brought to her, she won’t participate in activities, she won’t go outside and get fresh air, and she certainly won’t use her walker to get a few steps in. Her life revolves around reading, TV, and not sleeping well. My mom has been very sedentary for as long as I can remember and this is the end result… it sure motivates me to keep moving!
@MadisonMolly2017, thank you for this month’s theme! I agree…how we see ourselves and our beliefs about ourselves shapes our actions. And I love the addition of adding someone in our lives who exemplifies that habit.
So, despite my late start, count me in!
“I am someone who prioritizes getting enough sleep every night, as my dear friend Nancy does”.
To accomplish this goal, I will be in bed every night by 10 PM.
I feel so much better when I get enough sleep. I want this to be my focus.

Wow so much happening for u @MadisonMolly2017 !! They say it comes in three's which u just hve now had three so hopefully that's all u bad luck done now!
@jamcnewman and @MadisonMolly2017 I have listened to a few random ppl on you tube one in particular was a gal who explained that as over eaters and ppl who hve dieted for such a long time of our liife sometimes we find obsessing about food, our diet plan and weight loss plan almost as a useful habit that deep down we like hence why there is the falling of the wagon then having all these big bold plans to get back on track. We also get a sense of achievement wen we stick to our plan. It almost becomes a whole lifestyle and all very consuming, habitual and may even be a distraction for us or serving us in some way!!! I was like wow I know that's how I feel at the start of every month!!
I am also 5 episodes into brain over binge on youtube, this is an awesome take on not needing to fix all your emotional triggers that make u overeat first before breaking the over eating but instead teaching you 2 key things:
1) just dismiss the urge to over eat
2)eating adequately to break the habit!
They also talk about the lower and higher brain and the science behind how to dismiss that urges!!!
https://youtu.be/ZFN8X4C4FwE
I am enjoying the content! If you guys hve any ppl you listen to please share!!!! Xo

No sewing this week even though…
I am a seamstress who enjoys the creative outlet of sewing and sews every day like my friend Natalie.
However I’ve had a very successful week getting my garage back in order and a whole lot of decluttering while maintaining my daily solid habits.3 -
Thanks Donna!!
Great @77tes !! I bet you are so happy with your garage!
Decluttering had transformed our lives!

Yes, @MadisonMolly2017 the garage makes me happy every time I walk into it. And I’ve taken the donations to the thrift shop, so that feels good as well.
So, how is my August goal going?
I am a seamstress who enjoys the creative outlet of sewing and sews every day like my friend Natalie.
Well, I didn’t sew every day this week. However, I did make a lot of progress. I cut out the skirt panels for my 1860s skirt, so that’s a big win. 😀 Cutting out always scares me. 😳
Since it’s almost the end of the month I’ll wrap up what sewing projects I did accomplish in August:
I finished That Darn Hat
I repaired Workout pants
I repaired my yellow 1940’s blouse
I worked on hemming the 1940s trousers
I cut out panels for 1860s skirt
I modified the ready made Victorian Corset (removed modesty panel).
As part of decluttering the garage, I took my wedding gown out of its preservation box (which had been in the garage rafters) and hung it in my closet. Maybe I’ll use the skirt for a historical costume, but why leave it in a dusty box. An added bonus was that my wedding petticoat was in the box, and I can definitely use that in a costume.
In other news, after our roof was finished we had solar panels installed, so I’m enjoying my AC guilt-free on what will probably be a very hot week.5 -
Wonderful news about the solar panels, @77tes! Congrats and well done on your many sewing projects this month!
I can’t say I’ve been in bed by 10PM every night, but I have been turning in consistently earlier and it’s made a huge difference in how I feel and how quickly I can recall things…especially people’s names. I don’t feel fuzzy brained when I get good restorative sleep. My eating choices are better too. I want to keep this up.4 -

My muse isn’t always cooperative 😝 I have been writing, but much more prosaically, with admin for the 4 lifelong learning groups I run, which start next week.
In September, I will be working on staying on track with my Solid Habits, as the semester gets into it’s swing.

@77tes I think you have done great things in August. I think we need to build in a little slack to our habit development.
I did feel a sense of accomplishment with my 24 poems for August. Considering that I didn’t write anything much at all in September, it certainly got my creative juices flowing again.
Later: Mmmm 🤔 I think I will just make that number up to 25. See what I mean about my muse 😝
31st August - Patterns
Daylight hours grow shorter as the summer days rush by.
I gaze up at a super blue moon that fills the evening sky.
Fading flowers drop as trees turn to amber gold.
I shiver as the air outside is touched with winter cold.
Seasons parade through my life, the cycle does not end.
No matter what I wish for, my will must learn to bend.

Now I need to edit my other post 😝
And I stuck to my Daily Solid Habits, even though, some days, it was the minimum, it was more than good enough.2 -
What a lovely poem @TerriRichardson112 ! 24 poems in a month is quite an accomplishment!
@themedalist , well done getting to bed earlier. That’s always a struggle.
Thanks @MadisonMolly2017 for a really encouraging theme for the dog days.2 -
