Well, I'm up about two pounds from where I was week before last. I have no idea about last week since my sister has a very old bathroom scale and it was very obvious that it was nowhere near accurate.
Staying with them was a good reminder to me to not get into that mode that many older people do, i.e., not replacing things (like that scale). My sister's health keeps her from doing a lot of things she would otherwise do, and my step-niece says that her Dad has plenty of money, but just likes keeping everything as it is. I know I suffer a bit from that tendency myself. Case in point, this morning we had a new sofa delivered for the den in the basement. The loveseat it's replacing looked okay but just did not work well with hubby's current back and neck issues. So he picked out one that does and is happy as a clam. I, on the other hand, will need a little time to adjust!
As expected, all of my 7-day averages are down due to time in the car, no treadmill and hot outside temps, eating differently and being in a house with no stairs. So here goes:
Steps = 8,792
Stairs = 8 floors
Kcals burned = 1,583
I actually started giving myself permission to walk a little less even before we headed south. There are just some days when trying to get 10K or more just does not work out. Yesterday, I hit 12K because I got steps doing errands and then walked on the TM while watching the Nats game. But there are days when what I need to do does not entail much walking. So, I've decided hitting around 8K will have to do sometimes. And although I do hope to get back down below 130 soon, as I said before, my goal weight is no longer 122 and my main goal now is getting more muscle tone. Mentioning, which, my class is on break, but will start again September 8. Because my old leader stepped down and the new leader has a work meeting every other Tuesday, I think I'll probably be serving as instructor part-time. I really don't want to do it, but the other co-lead has some serious family issues going on that will probably impact her availability. And so I don't see how I cannot step up.
Hope everyone is doing well. As I think I mentioned, we arrived home to learn that several of our friends and neighbors are dealing with some pretty serious issues. Things that make our car accident and appliance woes pale in comparison. We did get a shockingly high estimate for the repair on our car though. The front bumber barely looks dented or scraped, but they said some stablizers behind the bumper were damaged and the total cost would be about 6K! Yep. I can just imagine how much Geico may go up on us next year. This, plus the deer that ran into the side of that same car a few months ago has cost them a bundle. But I was once told that "it's not serious unless it affect your breathing." And this doesn't!
Will check back in later. I'm looking forward to hearing from everyone.

WELP!! I know I say to celebrate successes and this is HUGE. But I'm heading the cali for the weekend and will not be on plan AT ALL really - so next week is going to be such a bummer and disappointment. But I finally broke 220. I would hover and then spike. And I was getting to accept the 221-222. I know I shouldn't but I'm really not doing what it will take to get where I need to be. Anyhow. Pray for me over the week and weekend. The kids have ordered Olive Garden and Jersey Mike's for the events...and yeah the sodium alone is going to inflate me. But I come home Monday night and will flush it out as fast as I am able on Tuesday.
Sarah - I get it. And even before my achilles rupture I had to reduce to 8k per day. My workdays are just insane lately and I'm so mentally exhausted when I'm done that it's very trying to get the motivation to walk afterwards. I did start a couple of times, but the heat is just too much and driving to the mall obviously did not happen. Anyhow - I commend you also for stepping up and leading the class. You can do it and you might even find that you enjoy it. Holy cow on the repairs - but I get it. Especially if it's a newer car. My tank of a 4Runner was $500 for a bumper repair. When the new Highlander was hit in the parking lot - it was about that much for the rear quarter panel and bumper and sensors. Their insurance paid for it, but still. EEEK!
Part of trip this weekend may become a bit of a challenge. I've mentioned heading further south to visit hubby's Auntie, but now my Compadre (my daughter's godfather and my BFF truth be told), his dad is in the hospital and not doing well. However, his hospital is a long drive out of the way on the I-5 which is a five lane parking lot 24/7. It will take us about 2 hours to get there and then an additional 90+ minutes to get us back on our route home. Meaning. The 2 hour drive north will have no savings on our eventual drive home. It will still be 5-6 hours from there. We're going to assess both how his dad is doing and what traffic is looking like before we make the decision on which direction we'll head. The positive is that we did not tell his Auntie we were coming into town, so at least she won't be disappointed if we don't show up. But we are looking at 8-10 hours of drive time on Monday.
So with the surgeries I've had, of course I had to remove my wedding bands. Well, since I didn't put them back on right after, and with the swelling and fatness that I've experienced since then, I can't get them back on. So I took them in to get them resized. We bought these in 1985 and we had a child and zero money or savings. The lady actually asked me how much we paid...duh... it has a chip of a diamond for the engagement ring and specs on the wedding band. But they are MY wedding bands. It's costing $1,500 to size it up and to fix the prongs. HOLY CRAP. I don't think we paid that much for all three rings way back when. I've teased hubby about upgrading and buying a new set. And we have the funds that I could. But when it came down to it, I called the jeweler and am having them resize and repair my set. I can't imagine wearing another "set" where they weren't blessed nor did we say "I Do" with them in 86. If we ever renew our vows, then MAYBE I'll upgrade. Or maybe I'll get another set for my right hand. But I want my wedding set back on my left finger. We have been through so many ups downs sideways and sillyways. I know I'm kinda working on my weight, but they were tight before then too... worth the investment...but see Sarah - we get hit every which direction. Let's be thankful we're in the position we can handle these things.
Have a great evening! I'll poke on again before I leave.0 -

Okay, I'm happy with a bit of a downward direction.
I'm glad you're safely home, Sarah. And I'm sure the minimal weight increase will be gone quickly. It's so sad to read about these fairly young men having heart attacks. It's true that an ordinary day is a blessing. Today my trainer told me about a 17 year old athlete who was a good friend of her nephew's who died of brain cancer. He barely got the diagnosis less than a month ago, had a few radiation treatments.I hope the loss of a child or grandchild is something I never have to endure. But, there is a lot of loss, unfortunately. So, like my grandmother used to say, "living well is the best revenge'.
I can't believe the cost for getting your car fixed. I hope the insurance doesn't increase.
Lois, wow!! Congratulations on another great reduction. I hope you have a great time this weekend, but the traffic to see your friend's dad sounds like too much, and you need a break from work and some time to relax. Safe travels.
I don't think I told you ladies, but we're re-roofing our house right now. OMG. The pounding has given me a headache for 2 days. We leave as much as we dare (saw a movie Tuesday, went out to an early dinner yesterday), but these guys come at 7 am, leave in the heat of the day, and then return and are pounding into the evening! We've also had a lot of house expenses lately. Our roof was only 17 years old, but it was shake shingles. Our insurance company has told us that with the fires in the west and climate change, the insurance is going to be outrageous very soon, and that changing roof material would help abate those costs. Well, we thought we could wait, but things aren't going to get less expensive, and we figure we'll live here as long as we can. We moved into this house in 2006, and it's perfect for our needs, is a rambler with a finished basement. So, this will be our last roof, lol. It's a 50 year roof (supposedly).
Kelly, a cabin sounds wonderful! As you know, we had one until late last year (30 years!) We enjoyed it so much! Many friends and family spent time there with us. I hope you find the perfect place to make great memories. They're a lot of work and expense, but I think it's great. Good luck!
Sorry to be a day late. It seems like it's easier for me to post on Thursday, but I'll keep trying for Wednesdays. I'm off to the downstairs Rec room . . some distance from the banging on the roof, lol.

Hi, everyone. Lois, I'm sure you are already offline for your weekend trip. I agree with Sheesh about that extra travel time. That's a lot, especially on a weekend where we already know traffic will be heavier and people will be acting crazier. Honestly, the traffic here in the metro DC area is getting so bad that for the first time in my life, I feel a little dread when we head out. I can't forget that car driving toward us on the wrong side of the road back in December. And every time we go somewhere we see people weaving into the wrong lane. I think the December guy was drunk, but with the weavers, I think a lot of that is cell phone use. Anyway, enjoy the time away from work and with loved ones. Recharge those batteries!!
Congrats, Sheesh, on that loss. It's so hard for us short women to get that darned scale to move. And I agree that with houses, it's always something! Our house is 51 years old, and we have lived here for 31 of those years. So there's always something on the list to fix. We re-roofed once since we've been here, but it's getting that time again. And I have to get the dishwasher repair folks back again. They did not seat the dishwasher correctly. It works fine, but the look bugs me. I suppose good news is that Geico approved that estimate and so the car is now being fixed. I think it's an outrageous amount for what they're doing, but what do you do other than cross your fingers that your rate does not skyrocket? That car, by the way, is the same one that the deer ran into back in the early spring. I just hope they give us credit for all the years we had no claims. We're loyal customers and I think we've had 5 or 6 claims over a 30-year period.
Well, time to get moving. Today is hubby's birthday and we are having friends over for a nice steak dinner out on the patio. This was planned sort of quickly because we are getting a 3-day break in the heat. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, the high will be in the 80's. So by 6:30 on the shady side of the house, the temps will be perfect for dining out. We have had almost no evenings this year to enjoy the patio, so I want to take advantage of every nice evening we can. On Sunday, it's going back up to 100 with high humidity again. On Monday, we are going up to Frederick to some for a Labor Day bar-b-que, but I suspect that we will need to eat inside.
And mentioning all these food events, I know that I have to be mindful of what and how much I'm eating and try to get a little extra movement in. Today, I'm back to 129.6, and my hope is to stay there through the holiday weekend.
Kelly, hope all is well on your end. Looking forward to hearing about what you found with cabin #2.

Sarah, tell hubby Happy Birthday!
Glad your fix got approved with insurance. I’ll cross my fingers with you that rates don’t go up.
Well, the roof is coming along. It had better be done by tomorrow. We have company coming Monday afternoon to grill steaks on the patio, and I want time to spruce up the yard and check for debris. I couldn’t stand the noise, so we left to go out for an early dinner and to play golf. I must be tense or angry because I hit over a a lot of greens, lol.
Have a wonderful Labor Day.

Hope everyone is having a nice holiday weekend. Ours has been nice, thus far, but I cannot say relaxing. Honestly, you'd think that just having another couple over for steaks on the patio Friday night would be fairly labor free. But it seems having company is never as easy as it seems it should be, and something always goes wrong. I ended up having to redo a side dish because I was trying to do too many things at once. And the female of this couple does not eat sugar, so that meant preparing a second salad dressing, a second dessert, etc. And of course I found myself cleaning things I really did not need to clean. Getting all the blossoms and berries off of the patio and outdoor furniture would have been enough! The weather was so nice, we stayed outside the whole time. Sheesh, I hope your cookout tonight is more relaxing. I suppose the good thing is that despite not leaving myself enough time to walk, my weight was actually down on Saturday morning.
On Saturday, we planned to spend time at the pool, but to our surprise, the pool was closed that day for unanticipated maintenance. We did get a nice surprise visit from a DC friend on Saturday night though, that was lots of fun. And yesterday, the pool was open, so we spent a couple of hours there with our neighbors.
It is hot and very humid again, so walking outside is impossible. It still felt like a Louisiana swamp when we went to bed last night. But I did walk on the TM while catching up with "And Just Like That." Have mixed feelings about the program. Do any of you watch it?
Did I mention that we've realized that we do NOT like the new sofa after all. It's beautiful, but it does not sit anything like the floor model we sat on when we ordered it. It is FAR too firm. I doubt the store or manufacturer will do anything, but we're going to check. Our only option may be taking it to a reupholstery shop to get the cushions modified. But the fellow we've always used for upholstery (and who always did a beautiful job) retired at the first of the year. So we will have to find someone else. He recommended another shop on his website when he let his customers know that he would be closing. But I checked their reviews, and they are mixed. Sheesh, did you ever run into a similar problem when working with your clients?
Again, hope you are all having a safe and enjoyable weekend.

We bought cabin #2!!
I'm not sure if this link will work for you ladies, but here we go - https://realtor.ca/real-estate/25942957/29-pinawa-place-alexander-rm-pinawa-bay
We're excited and nervous at the same time. Lots of money to fork over, but we also know that the house we're in is not our forever home and too big for us even now. Hubby and I have been having lots of conversations lately about what our plan should be. We'll likely stay here another couple of years, then look to downsize a bit. The stairs are already getting to us and it's honestly just too big of a house. The kids are only here 1/2 the time and with both of them in high school now, we'll likely start seeing them less and less. Seems silly to pay for all of this space and live in a high tax neighborhood. We'll see.
It was quite an emotional rollercoaster to get the place. We put in a low ball offer, then countered but only $4k less than asking and said that was the lowest they'd go. We didn't counter and sat on it. A couple days later, our realtor reached out to their realtor and asked if there was much interest, only to find out they had an offer that was likely going to be accepted. We were so sad. Then.. that night, we got a text to say they turned down the offer! So we offered and they accepted the next dayHoly emotional! We get possession on October 16 (day after my birthday)!
Sarah - I watch And Just Like That. I was a big Sex & the City fan, so I don't mind it. It's not the same as the original, but it's something fun to watch. Your trip sounded like it had it's ups and downs, but I'm sure you're happy you did it and I'm sure you're happy it's over too. That's too bad about the sofa. Hopefully you can figure that out!
Lois - Hope you're having a good trip and the drive doesn't end up being as rough as you think. Fingers crossed!
Sheesh - Ugh.. the headaches from the hammering must be brutal. Hopefully they're almost done. It's always tough to spend so much money on something like shingles. It feels like you don't get anything out of it lol The day after the cabin offer was accepted, our AC stopped working. OMG I lost 3 hours of sleep that night just thinking about how much it was going to cost to fix. Brutal. It was so hot out this past weekend, but it was finally fixed last night and luckily, it only ended up being $95 for the repair. Phew!
Workout and eating wise.. honestly I still can't seem to get into it. I'm still waking up and working out or going on the treadmill and I'm still closing my apple watch rings, but I don't feel awesome. Likely not drinking enough water (or any) and I've been watching my food but not enough to make me feel good. One day it'll just hit me and I'll do it.

Kelly, I am so excited for you. That's a super cute place with so much potential, and the dock on the lake . . . heaven! My aunt and uncle had a lakeside cabin that I visited often when growing up, and my parents bought a place on a lake when I was in my early 20s, so I visited there, too. Fishing, swimming, reading on a porch . . . Oh my gosh. And if you're staying active and closing those rings, you are probably also eating better than you would if you didn't do that. I know that when I move, I eat less and better than when I just through all caution to the wind. We will all have to come up with goals once fall is here. And I agree that AJLT is still fun to watch, but some of the new characters are not that likable to me.
Well, off to start the new thread before the day gets away from me.0 -
Thanks Sarah! The place isn't technically waterfront, but the dock is across the street and down a little path. We'll take it! and yes, I don't love some of the new characters and even a couple of the older ones annoyed me. It's like their acting got worse lol0
-
I agree. Buts it's escape watching. I call it that because I escape reality and enter the world of people who live in those kinds of apartments and wear those kinds of clothes!!1
