I got up early this morning and walked for a half hour. Felt awesome even though my right knee is trying to tell me it is boss. I'm ignoring it...stubborn stiff knee. Now doing a few things around the house...cleaned the kitchen and doing some laundry. I just love puttering around my house on the weekends...happy as a pig in slop, I am! LOL
My grandmother used to say that all the time...starting to miss my family who is no longer with me...especially this time of year heading into the holidays. I remember good times of sitting around the dining room, breaking beans with my mother, grandmother, aunt and cousins and hearing all of their stories...smelling all of the tremendous cooking smells, talking about recipes or just listening to the chit chat as family does. I miss that...October always held discussions of canning, new things to try for upcoming holiday meals or talking about recipes of what they planned to fix for various functions at home, church or at other relatives' visits. My grandmother, mother, favorite aunt, great aunt, grandfather, father, favorite uncle and cousin Michael are all in heaven now. It's just me (VA), my brother (KY), niece (FL) and cousins (IN) left now, but we're all spread out, so won't be together during the holidays. I try to look at the holidays as just another day, but it's hard. So, Nov and Dec will be a challenge for me...
Are you guys starting to think of the holidays yet? What are your plans?
Gotta go drop another load in the washer...I'll be back shortly...

@jessicakrall8 we had our first holiday earlier this month and celebrated Thanksgiving. I start thinking about and planning holidays in September typically. Holidays are little tricky here since COVID. It seems people have gotten use to doing their own things all the time that making time for family isn’t a priority. My husband and I typically host either thanksgiving or Christmas. We did thanksgiving for my husbands family this year.5

@jessicakrall8 -- I'm the same way. My Grandma would cook for a week and people would travel in and things would be so crowded. There was always a lot going on. I would pick up Pecans and help shell them for pies. They were the small wild ones that are pretty hard to crack! Things have changed too rapidly for me, I don't feel like I've adapted to the new world.4

Good morning Shape Shifters. Another lazy day here. The weather has been quite bad with a lot of rain and wind. It is great! Except that I haven't been able to walk since Wednesday. I do plenty of stepping inside though, so it's fine. I did laundry and got some groceries. I also ordered two new jackets for Tinus. Hopefully they won't take too long to arrive. I’ll be in a car for 10 plus hours a day for the next two days so steps will be very low ….
@jessicakrall8 I miss family during the holidays too. Mostly my grandma, who’s birthday was December 29, and my husband’s parents. We were so wild at my grandmothers 98th birthday party that the neighbors actually called the cops! They were very nice to us. Only in Florida lol.
This year is going to be especially different. My daughter will be spending Thanksgiving in Connecticut with her fiancé’s family. My husband and I are going to take our son to the Bahamas for a few days (my birthday is the 17th) and then actual turkey day in Houston with my son, parents and brother. Part of the reason we are heading to Houston today.
Over Christmas, my daughter will only have a couple days of, so she won’t be home on her birthday (December 27th). We will all 4 be together on actual Christmas and part of the 26th (my son’s birthday). Hopefully, my daughter will make it back home for New Year’s Eve, which is my husband’s birthday (and his late father’s), but my son will be with his girlfriend and her family by then. Boy, we do have a lot of holiday birthdays! It was nice when we could all be together.
I’m thinking of not doing the big, live tree this year, or the trees in my kids rooms. It is a lot of work.
Thinking I’ll go smaller scale with the decorations. I’m sure we will have a good holiday, even if it will be different this year.

@frankwbrown I see you trying to catch up with my steps for October! Watch it bud! LOL How are your badges coming for the month? I've finished 3-4 so far...will likely hit my 300k step one on the 27th or 28th. Didn't do the yoga one this month...I don't really like it and with everything else, have trouble finding time for it in my schedule...Wish I had access to a pool...but would like have trouble finding time for that as well. Hope your month is going well. You certainly stay busy, that's for sure!!

I hope I can contribute more to the team in the future. I'm on a workout streak - I don't know how much stake I put in 'working out' because it takes so much to offset my secret sweet tooth - but I'm giving it a go. I'm reading Gary Taubes' new book on SUGAR and its diabolical evils. He'll get around to trying to talk me into being low-carb and it won't work on account I've been studying Japanese -- but maybe it can scare me away from sugar, lol.

Hello Shape Shifters. I didn't do anything again! Just reading, piles of tea and cuddling/walking Tinus. Actually, I cooked, so that's not really nothing since I never cook. It was a mix of veggies/potatoes to fry and a veggie burger. It was quite nice. It was raining in the morning and I didn't feel like walking later in the day. This colder weather is making me so lazy! Happy Monday everyone
