NiceSpydr - My September Status Updates :)

As suggested by "RoundGal" in one of the Group Topics, I'm starting a Topic to announce my goals, keep track of my progress etc.
I tend to be an "in the closet" dieter, and I've been working on sharing more to see if it keeps me motivated and accountable.

Starting September Weight: 197
End of September Goal Weight: 192

Goals for the Month:
1- Make time for ME (exercise, decluttering my home office, a long bath, make time to paint, etc.) for at least 15 minutes a day.

2- Stop "Starting Over" & find some solid Motivation/ Accountability.
I like a Fresh Start, but sometimes I let myself slack because I'll just "Start Over" later. Life is not Mario Brothers, and I'm really not in the same place when I reset. I feel like I'm losing levels and not really progressing.
I feel like starting this topic is a good start.

3- Exercise at least 3 days a week.
I'm really excited that I started off Sunday with a 2 hr + marathon Salsa/Dance adventure with some new friends.
I've been periodically doing Couch to 5k (C25k) but have been easily thwarted by the rainy weather. (Even my dog doesn't like to go out in the rain, and she's supposed to be my motivation buddy.) I need to get motivated or look into an alternative I can do when it's poor weather.

4- Work on tracking accuracy.
I suspect that a good part of the reason I've been hovering around the same weight for a long time is that I'm a lazy tracker. I don't own a food scale or a heart rate monitor. I eyeball food, and don't closely track how long I exercise. I love to cook, but tracking all the ingredients I use gets really cumbersome. I just find something that "sounds about right".

5- Keep on track while away from home.
I have several trips keeping me away from home. I need to figure out some methods for while I'm staying in a hotel, and not in control of my personal schedule, resturant choices when entertaining the client, etc. It gets too easy to have one more drink, and then skip exercise because we're always getting to the hotel late.

Other people's goals and tips are really appreciated.
Here goes nothing.

These are excellent goals. I look forward to watching you reach them! I used to eyeball my recipes until I bought a scale and I was pretty accurate with my measuring cups but I'm definitely more in control now.

    Goals Progress so Far:
    1- Make time for ME:
This is going pretty well. Some of my "Me" time has been spent doing errands, and such, but they're things I really needed to do. The night that I spent the least amount of "Me" time included a late visit with my Brother-in-Law who is in a Nursing Facility due to health complications (he had Muscular Dystrophy) and that was treasured time. I think it triple counted.

2- Stop "Starting Over" & find some solid Motivation & Accountability:
This week I signed up for an online Boot Camp and tonight I purchased a FitBit Flex. I had been looking at various HRMs and decided I really should just pull the trigger and get one. It's charging right now, and my account has been set up.

3- Exercise at least 3 days a week.
I wish I had done more. The week isn't over and I plan to keep moving. I'm hoping the FitBit Flex will be a good reminder for me. I'm getting ready to go on a work trip, and some of the technical prep hasn't been going as well. I've tried to sneak in extra activity where I can (standing on conference calls, etc) to help compensate.
Tomorrow is a Comic Con, which means LOTS of walking, and probably squeeing and jumpiong around as my nerd heart explodes with joy!

    4- Work on tracking accuracy.
I'm reading labels more closely, using a measuring spoon to serve dinner, etc. When I get back from my work trip, I'm planning on buying a food scale. Also, have I mentioned I bought a FitBit Flex?

5- Keep on track while away from home.
Sunday is when this step gets real. I've already set aside some workout wear to pack, my swimming suit, my favorite belly dance DVD, and I have a link to my online Boot Camp ready to go. The first night the team meets, I'm going to make sure everybody knows that I'm not planning on staying out extra late socially, so I can keep time to exercise, and find a night to meet my friend who lives in the general area.

All in all, I'm thinking things are going okay.
I'm hoping things are going to be moving in the right direction.

You're going to have fun tomorrow! And I think the fitbit will really help it can get addictive trying to beat your previous day. Between that and the food scale you'll be rocking it.

    Work Trip, Day 3:
In some ways maintaining healthy travel is harder than when I'm home.
    * It's hard to get "Me" time, Our days in the office are long, work team dinners and "work parties" make those days even longer.
    * The client brings in breakfast and lunch, and choices are limited. I love the fruit, but avoid the muffins, breads, etc.
    * It's been almost impossible to get in all of my exercise and steps. The area isn't a place I can go running by the time we finally get back to the hotel. The hotel gym is tiny, smelly and somehow still crowded up to when it closes (I've checked several times).
    * I have a hard time adjusting to a much earlier schedule. I'm not in my time zone, and as a natural night owl I have a difficult time sleeping even when I try. (I've not yet figured out sleep tracking on my FitBit Flex to see exactly how bad.)

In other ways maintaining healthy travel is easier than when I'm home.
    * I actually eat breakfast. I've been able to stick to some of the healthier items without much willpower being strained.
    * During our last trip together, the work team expressed that they were all "being so bad". On this trip, everyone is eating healthier which makes it easier to make healthy choices. I don't have much in person support at home, and it surprises me how much of a positive impact it's been.
    * I'm out of my regular exercise routine, but I've been able to sneak in a little extra each day even if it's only been some yoga in the hotel room before bed. I feel really awkward working out in front of someone (even at home), so the private space and time is really helpful.

Keeping track of what is and isn't working while I'm not at home is pretty enlightening.
I'ts helping me re-think my home routine and what might help me better for the day to day.

Today's the last day on site with the client, and this afternoon I'm headed home.
On my travel day, coming here, I *very* under my calorie goal. Over the week, some days I've been under and some I've been over a little bit. After counting all the + and all the -, I'm still a little under. Hooray for online Boot Camp videos! (Even though 1 day, we worked so late I only did half - I at least did half.)

I'm hoping that all the airport walking and healthy choices today will help me feel like the trip has been a generally healthy one. I'm looking forward to getting home, walking my dogs and doing a yoga video.

    Happy Thursday!

Sounds like on travel days you make great choices to balance out the week - great job! BTW - 1/2 of Boot Camp is way better than nothing anyday!

I can't believe that September is almost over!
I feel like in general I've made good goal progress, but that it's slipped a little last week while I was in New Orleans.

    1- Make time for ME:
I got a tiny bit of recreational time in, but not as much as I liked. I'm putting New Orleans on my list of places to go for a real vacation, and not just hit the Council Meetings for one of my non-profits.

2- Stop "Starting Over" & find some solid Motivation & Accountability:
I'm making this a focus, since I felt like I slipped a little. My handy FitBit still kept track of my activity, even though I didn't get a chance to log my food. I was able to stay really active, and I still was being mindful to only eat healthy things. I *CAN* say No to pecan pie, no matter how much everyone else at the table raves about it.

3- Exercise at least 3 days a week.
I got in some, but not a whole lot of my planned online Boot Camp sessions. Even when I didn't get a chance to do Boot Camp sessions, I know I did lots of walking and lifting to help my grandmother navigate to meetings and such. I had lots of excuses to make an extra effort to keep moving.

    4- Work on tracking accuracy.
It's lacking. Also, somehow I keep magically forgetting to buy a food scale.

5- Keep on track while away from home.
I tried to pick all the healthiest options, with few to no splurges and lots of extra activity. It wasn't my best trip but I really did try to not let it throw me entirely off track.

So far in September I've lost 4 lbs. I'm really close to my mini-goal for the month, which is exciting and really encouraging.
Now, if I can only survive the return to work.

    Let's rock this!!
