Today's Topic: On The Road and Disgusted. Just been on a short Wednesday, Thursday road trip but enough interruptions to get thoroughly discussed about food choices and sleep quality.
As the old saying goes any old excuse will do. Well I'm up 3.2 lbs since Friday WI last week but DW and I blew it on a short business trip. Just venting and thank you for letting me so that.

Do you hit the road sometimes and the train totally goes off the track?

I don’t have to be on the road; anything or any place is a justification to go off track. To a certain extent, while being on the road adds a layer of challenges, I also go into it like a football team playing a “prevent” defense late in the game, just trying to avoid the big plays. Similarly, I know I’m likely to not eat as well on the road as I do at home, but I go into it planning to limit the scope of the damage. That means fruit, eggs and yogurt at the hotel breakfast buffet, and generally a salad with protein for a late afternoon or early evening dinner.

But put me somewhere with food that’s not normally available (that I like) and no prior mindset controls, and I can derail myself. After four days of company last week, they departed mid-afternoon on Saturday. Between their flight and the end of the day, I ate 120 additional points out of a normal daily budget of 30 points by eating all the stuff we bought “for them”. I was up 4.6# the next day, and 5.4# over my goal weight. Yeah, I can do damage - but I followed my plan, got back on track, and weighed in Thursday evening at my Studio within the Green Zone.

As you said, when you want something bad enough, any old excuse will do.

My most recent weight gain was triggered by a business trip where I was surrounded by a lot of very fine food. On a subsequent trip, I was able to rein that in a bit.

I have an upcoming road trip. My hope is to have the fortitude to pack my own food for the trip. Although, I am realistic enough to realize that a diner is more attractive. Still, I have some extra motivation this trip. We'll see.
