Today's Topic: 1st Thursday LTL of 2024. 364 days left to stay at goal, stay under goal, lose xxx amount of weight and the list goes on. Old saying goes time waits for no one.

I was within .2 of a lb from where I was on 1/1/2023. Pretty sad on my part compared to what I wanted to do. It's in the past anything I can do about it now
Been around too long to have regrets.

Do you agree it's a meal to meal situation to stay on top of your weight? Or at least keeping an eye on where you stand every week?

Its life, and life is a series of minute by minute decisions. When that comes to weight and health its more than just what do I eat at a meal, there is ls also how much do I eat. Do I flop down in my favorite chair and not move for a couple of hours or o I stand up and do something that involves movement. Do I become upset or obsessed about the people and events that I cannot change or do I seek peace of mind and contentment. Its all part of the grand dance we call life.

    WOW! Cakeman21k stole my thoughts.
I'll add, as I weigh myself daily, it's also a day to day, what did I do, right/wrong/ and huh?
I'm shooting for a 10# below goal by next year. Doable, but.....?????

I think “meal to meal” is where most of the leverage lies in terms of managing my weight. I’ve developed either a rut, or at least deep groove, in terms of breakfast and lunch. Although I weigh daily, I tend to think of my weight by weeks. My reactions to blips and trends is based on weeks.

But the key thing in terms of staying on top of my weight? Two things, actually.

First, and most important, is that it’s a high priority for me. If I’m traveling, that’s not a license to eat with wild abandon. Subway makes the same six point subs in Kansas or Tennessee that they do in New England. In other words, there are reasonable choices everywhere and in almost every situation, and I simply have to avail myself of them.

Second is that I’m sticking with a “zone defense” approach. When my official weekly result is out of the Green Zone, I have a plan that helps bring me back on track - and I follow that plan. I’d prefer not to sometimes (as Bartleby might say), but I still do it.

Because what I weigh is a choice, not an accident.

(I will now step down from the soapbox.)

I agree that there are meal-to-meal decisions, but at least for me, my average meals are just fine and well within my plan. I get in trouble with the stuff that happens outside of meals. For me, it's mainly evening snacking +/- alcohol. Same ol' story, I guess. If/when I cut that evening stuff out, my weight drops, and when I don't, I struggle.

Exercise is certainly a component, but I simply try to stay consistent with my running. I don't try to run more to bring my weight down. Instead, I'm trying to view it as one stable component of my "lifestyle" (I still don't like that word, but I guess it's a good descriptor anyway).

Mostly it’s meal to meal or day to day. I eat the same stuff a lot. Rotate enough different things in and out of the lineup to keep me happy. But then there are the treaty things. When it come to those I need to think longer term. I can have the pizza today. Or the cake tomorrow. Or sometimes the pizza today and the cake tomorrow. But after that the treat window is going to have to close for awhile.
