✈️DESTINATION - Barcelona, Spain 6,000 Miles - 9" Plate & 10 Minutes of Happiness

The challenge begins on Saturday morning. Exercise & 9" Plate & 10 Minutes of Happiness done before SATURDAY DOES NOT COUNT!!!!

Barcelona, the land of sun, sand and Sangria, hosted the Summer Olympic Games in 1992. The city was significantly restructured before the Games kicked-off. More than 250 acres of what had been industrial land was redeveloped to incorporate residential housing (the former Olympic Village) and public facilities. As part of the city’s long-term vision, the seafront was cleaned up and major ring roads and other transport infrastructure were also developed for the Games.

A new port, that opened the city out to the sea, was developed along with a village. An array of new athletic facilities, roads and many hotels were built along with the extension of the airport. Barcelona, which was overshadowed by the Capital Madrid earlier, completely spruced up before the Games and propelled it to the list of most visited cities in the world. The city has been one of the best Olympic venues and offers a plethora of shoreline eateries, amazing shopping, and exuberant nightlife. The city’s regeneration projects made it a wonderful for tourists and a very popular cruise ship destination.

Statistics show that the population doing some kind of physical or sporting activity at least once a week rose from 36% in 1983 to 51% in 1995.

📝Living the Good Life - 9" Plate & 10 Minutes of Happiness

Change Plates to Lose Weight! Make portion control easier. People use visual cues to determine how much to eat and if you have a bigger plate, you will likely want to fill it up. When we are dieting, or just trying to eat healthier we have to consider portion control (avoiding oversized amounts).

Alex Bogusky a co-author of the book "The 9-Inch Diet" got his idea for this book when he purchased a house from the 1940s. His standard-sized dinner plates could not fit into the 1940s cabinets. Over the decades, dinner plates dramatically increased in size, from 8.5 inches to 12 inches in diameter. Larger plates encourage us to load up on a third more food, and we usually eat most of what we serve ourselves. Bogusky correlates this expansion in plate size to bigger hips.

People have trouble looking at a portion and knowing whether it's too large or too small. He said "If I show you two portions, you can tell me which is bigger, but you won't be able to discern which one is the right size." A 9 inch plate has less space to cover than a 12 inch and puts servings into perspective.

Many restaurants use large plates/platters and bowls for serving meals, so consider ordering from the child's menu, ordering an appetizer for your meal, or immediately bagging up half of the entrée for another meal later.

This week replace your regular plate with a 9" plate. Measure your plates to find a 9”, or if needed buy a plate at the $1 Store, or set out grandma's vintage plates (likely the size of your salad plate), or use a 9" paper plate. It does make a difference, when your small plate is full, you will eat less.

Take a look at the difference:

Note - Simply replace the regular plate most people use with a 9" inch plate, NOT heaped up and NO seconds. We are not specifying about what goes on the plate or anything about what else is served, it's just the plate. You can still use a bowl for cereal, salads, soup, etc. You may be surprised how easy this can become a life long habit.

✔️To score points this week -
1. 9 Inch Plate - Score 10 points for each day that you use the 9 Inch Plate for all your meals with the exception of bowl foods like soup, salad, and cereal. If you must use a regular sized plate, leave a clean border of at least an inch around.
2. 10 Minutes of Happiness - DELIBERATELY make yourself happy for 10 minutes. All or nothing no part score.

🌟Build healthy forever habits - Make a 9" plate your plate of choice.
🌟Build healthy forever habits - Make it a healthy snack plate.
