Sending you support...
Monitor the BG closely to figure out just what is going on with diet and how you are responding to dietary changes and meds.
The addition of insulin is a scary moment for you. I get that...

Hopefully you have a continuous glucose monitor. It’s a game changer0

The continuous monitor should be part of everyones "kit" when they are diagnosed. I have never had one, but from what I understand it really is a game changer.0

I hear ya about being scared being put on insulin. I cried when my doctor told me I needed insulin. My support group and diabetes educator made me realize that it's just another tool to control my condition. I was soon in a better head space and have never looked back.
I'm not sure if I've got this right, but a pancreas doesn't just up and stop working, it just stops working effectively. It either produces less insulin, or your body is insulin resistant and it needs a little help.
Maybe your doctor can point you to a diabetes support group or educator?1 -

The pancreas insight here is my understanding too. I like the idea of a local support group. We have each other here, and that helps, but there is no substitute for face-to-face sometimes.1
