If you wanted to be rich...

I've been in maintenance from WW for years. However, for the past number of years, I've generally run about 10-15 pounds over my personal target weight (although I've mostly been below my official WW goal weight). My primary strategy has been "wishing it off," which hasn't worked so well.

With that said, a few weeks ago I (again) decided to really make an attempt to pull off the extra few pounds. My plan is pretty simple: stop snacking and/or drinking alcohol after dinner.

For some reason, *this time* I have been sticking to my plan pretty well. Perhaps not too surprisingly, the weight is coming off.

In this process, it's reminded me that weight-loss is indeed simple. Take in fewer calories than you burn. However, it's the mental game that's really the challenge. Why did the switch flip this time, and allow me to stick with my plan. Why hasn't the switch flipped (very often) in the past?

If you wanted to be rich, I would imagine understanding this question would be the key to creating a successful weight loss program (that doesn't rely on drugs and/or surgery).

So, why does the switch flip sometimes, but doesn't at other times?

I believe it comes down to committment, at least for me. I have to be dialed-in and focused, and not just for a couple of days.

Commitment and Focus. That sums it all up pretty well.
