Hello! I’m new to the group! Just started back on MFP, I’ve gained 20lbs over the years.. I’m focused on getting healthy, I also incorporate principles from 2B mindset if anyone knows what that is.. it seems once I hit 50, the weight pilled on, I just turned 53 .. anyways glad to be here .. any tips would be helpful

    Welcome!

Best tip is set goals and take it slow. Give yourself some grace. Make sure to step back and see the big picture even if some days feel worse than others.

    And enjoy the process!

Hello and welcome, @MrsKato1021! (Also apologies for the delay in responding to your intro. :grimace: )

If that was 20 pounds of gain over roughly 3 years, that suggests only a small surplus of calorie intake over calorie expenditure. Gaining 10 pounds in a year suggests about a 100-calorie daily surplus, on average . . . either a small thing most days, or perhaps an indulgent treat once a week.

I'm not saying "never eat indulgent treats", though: Totally not my modus operandi, trust me. (I'm a treat believer. :yum: ). I'm saying the change in habits that may be required to reverse the situation and maintain a lower weight could be quite manageable. (For me, it was much more manageable than I'd ever dreamed, when I started calorie counting at age 59.)

I know little about the 2B mindset, though I gather that it also includes not pursuing extreme self-denial? I'm on board, if so.

However, it also maybe - according things I've read - de-emphasizes exercise? I'm sorta not on board with that, for myself. To be clear, I don't think exercise is the thing to emphasize for weight loss. It's that most of things I do that others would call "exercise", I do because they're fun . . . so much fun that I'd do them even if they weren't good for me. For sure, I didn't dramatically increase exercise to lose weight; what I did was all on the eating side, in my perception.

But maybe I misunderstand what 2B is, since I've only read about in in overview-y things, not in depth. I'm not super-good about following rules, hedonistic aging hippie flake that I am. Consequently, I don't know much about any of the guidelines of various weight-management methodologies, other than calorie counting.

    But I'm rambling. Sorry!

What I meant to say was: This group tends to be a bit low activity, though I'd like to see it pick up. Probably the most active parts are are the "general chat" thread and the "photos from outdoor exercise" thread (which doesn't confine itself to that topic). If you'd like there to be an active over 50 group, post on the group and its threads, and maybe even tell new 50+ people that the group exists. That's how groups take off: Members make it happen.

    Wishing you success!
