Today's Topic: Protein and Satiety

I am doing some experimentation with increased protein intake in the evening to reduce nighttime eating. Word on the dietary street has it that eating protein increases feelings of fullness and reduces appetite for a longer period of time, especially for junk calories. What I'm doing is having a protein drink with about 30 grams of whey protein in the evening to put this to the test. It has not yet been long enough to come to any solid conclusions. What are your thoughts about the relationship between protein consumption and fullness/appetite?

Don’t know. But I’m going to try a similar experiment but starting with breakfast. About the time I started WW my regular breakfast became oatmeal. Then oatmeal with some protein powder. But I’m going to switch. Going to try making my own chicken sausage & doing sausage with1 slice of toast. I think this will basically change breakfast from carbs with some protein to protein with some carbs. Let you know how it goes.

I’m not a scientist, but anecdotally, for me it hold true. I have protein at every meal, and other than evening boredom eating, it seems to help.

One distinction? For me, it’s all about protein I chew rather than drink.

Here is a surprising summary of scientific studies directly comparing foods for their satiety abilities.
The links to her her study are in the video description when you click on "more..."
