I was reading Connect, and someone said they’d gained 20# by being off track since the holidays. I bit back my question, which was “um - which holidays?”

I guess the only type of statements that bug me are when folks suggest that their weight is not something they can control (e.g., "I can't lose weight because of my metabolism, my genetics, my sugar-addiction, etc."). Yes, there are things that can make it difficult or complicated, but there is nearly no situation in which a sufficient caloric restriction will not result in weight loss.

People who keep doing the same unsuccessful behavior over and over again, each time expecting different results. My comment: “ That, my friend, is the definition of insanity”

I know someone who used to always ask others, "What are you doing to lose the weight," and say things like, "Send me your recipes." The answer was ALWAYS a version of, "I'm cutting calories." Maybe inside of that the person was drinking less, cooking more meals at home, but bottom line, there just is no magic.

The piece of the puzzle I think is hardest for most people is getting comfortable with how long it takes/can take to lose a significant amount of weight. The person I mentioned above would get frustrated that she wasn't losing as fast as another person who was 100 pounds overweight to her 20 pounds. I roll my eyes when people to compare their weight loss experience to others.

Bored eating the same stuff a lot aka following their plan. I used to respond to the bored comment at meetings by pointing out I never got bored eating pizza 4-5 times per week. I didn’t really make any friends at WW.

Another was went off my plan at lunch. What they really meant was ate too many points or just more points than they planned for. This was followed failure to track the offending lunch. I jumped on those too. Eating too many points is arguably off plan. But long term it is pretty much unavoidable. Lots of ways to over. Simple math mistakes can do that. Bad planning. Misread menus. Lack of concentration.

But the real thing that puts people off plan when tracking is the refusal to record overages. Why is that? As an unknown GOADie noted years ago, our bodies will count it whether we track it or not. Then the refusal to track is followed by the vow to restart. Usually tomorrow after a large pizza for dinner tonight.
