Outfitting a Small Home Gym for NROL4W

Two questions:

I have been lifting for several weeks and I just started NROL4W this week (I'm so sore! LOL) My husband and I came into a little bit of unexpected money and we were thinking that investing in our health and fitness would be a very good thing to do. I was hoping to get some ideas for outfitting a home gym. We have a few things (dumbbells, stability ball), but I know we'll need more.

I think we need:
barbells and weights
dumbbells
a bench
box(es)
a rack or cage (with pull up and lat pull down bar)

Is this overkill? Or are there other things we might need?

Also, what book would you suggest for additional exercises?
