Today's Topic: Leisurely Fun

Part of any well-rounded lifestyle is fun. Leisure. Downtime.

What are your favorite leisure activities? What do you do for fun? Does fun involve others or do you prefer to do stuff on your own?

INTJ, so leisure time is generally solitary.

Although we recently joined OLLI - the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. They are operated by UNH IN New Hampshire, but there are over 120 different universities running an OLLI program around the country. We’re doing a tour of the New Boston Space Force Station on 9/10/24 as part of that, for example.

Another INTJ-er here! Agree that most leisure time is solitary.

I love to read. I don't read as many "fun books" as I used to and instead read a lot of Jewish texts. My primary focus has been learning gemara, which is the Rabbinic discussions that work to understand Jewish law (as determined in part from the written Torah and in part from the oral Torah). Regardless of the details, I put in 30-60' a day on this (to learn a page a day), and over the course of 7.5 short years, I will have completed the entire gemara. I started on Jan 1, 2020, so I'm well over the halfway mark now!

Most things that I do involve some aspect of learning. For example, I'm working on improving my Hebrew these days. That includes some Rosetta Stone, some electronic flash-cards, some general reading in Hebrew, some learning in Hebrew, etc.

For non-learning things, I really like to "hike," although the hiking in Ohio is more focused on a leisurely walk in the woods in a state park. The hiking in Utah was much more vigorous!

I should probably also say running, but running isn't really a leisure time activity for me, instead it's more of a necessity that I have to do. My wife enjoys it, but I tolerate it because I have to!

My wife and I like to go to estate sales together. Sometimes we find something to buy, sometimes we just check-out the house.

I got a ham radio license earlier this year. I get into some conversations, but mostly I listen. Actually, mostly I spend money on the hobby.
