New focus on eating clean

I have found that the calories in calories out doesn't work for me. I have struggled with my weight when I work full-time especially when I was a full-time parent as well. When I cook my meals at home and get regular exercise I tend to lose weight. That is because we tend to eat healthy when we cook at home. Since recently retiring I have been researching nutrition. I was lucky that I was raised by a mother who cared about this. We ate lots of vegetables, salad every dinner and fruit was always available for snacks. We had no sugar around. However she was very down on all carbohydrates. We had protein at every meal. So cooking at home meant healthier foods for me due to how I was raised. I am finding that a lot of weight problems are related to metabolic issues. Many of the healthy foods I knew but I didn't always know why or how much they did for us. Right now I am reading the book Outlive. Anyway I am joining now because this is a major focus right now for me. To make healthy clean food at home. To learn more about what nutrients different foods bring and what ones we need for good health.
