I just saw an ad on TV for this weight loss site. What a gimmick, in my opinion. They promote it as using a financial incentive to promote weight loss. It turns out you "wager" some amount of money to reach your weight loss goal in a certain time. If you win, part of the 'prize' is the money you paid up front. If you don't hit the goal, you lose the money you wagered. They don't offer any plan or program on how to lose the weight, just the 'prize'. The fine print on the TV ad says more people lose the wager than win. Imagine that.

I think I’ll just bet it all on red, instead.

I've seen these types of wagers done on a smaller scale for many years. I've had friends form groups built around this concept. I have never participated because I don't see the efficacy of it. For me, the key to weight loss success and health is modifying one's lifestyle to induce and maintain good health.

These wagers don't do that. That said, I don't think it's a "scam," per se. I do think it's a waste of money.
