Today's Topic: Meal Planning/Prep

It’s Monday - what has taken place to make sure you’ve got the foods in the house that support your weight management? Did you plan meals for the week? Grocery shop? Pre-make some meals? Prepare healthy snacks? Review menus if you’re eating out?

My initial reaction was that I don’t do a lot of food prep. However, since my breakfast and lunch are known for the majority of the week, I’m gonna take credit for grocery shopping for that. Also, we tend to batch cook, so I’ve got pre-portioned meals in the freezer that can be thawed and used. We’ll eat out, but I know I’ve got weight-friendly options where we’ll go. Finally, while Saturday is our more indulgent meal, I only ate half, and the rest will be dinner tonight.

    I think we’re okay.

We cook most everything from scarce when we eat. Breakfast and lunch are usually ecmveryone in their on. We do keep items we can fix on a moments notice. Cereal and milk breakfast or poached or microwaved eggs and toast or English muffins lunch a salad or sandwhich. Dinner we prepare at the time fresh. DW and I are dead set against store prepared entre's. Due to the chemicals for preserving in then along with other names of items you can't pronounce.

We however are habit or repetition folks until we get real tired of something.

What I need to do: meal planning that supports smart shopping, use of leftovers, and overall better eating habits.

What I do: not much at all. :(

I'm not organized enough to preplan for the week, but I have the week covered, either by stock items in the fridge or pantry. I do cook soups in bulk and freeze portions. On the reverse side of the coin I try to keep unhealthy food out of the house. Gone are the days when I regularly stocked high-fat, high-calorie, high sugar heart attack starters. My wife and I split a 200-calorie chocolate chip cookie for desert after dinner.

On Sunday afternoon, I prepare oatmeal for the week. I like to have oatmeal each morning. I also will prepare a couple of things I can mix in various ways to get a mix of meal variations. I find that works better for me than preparing a specific meal for each meal. Provides me with flexibility and speeds up the meal prep on weeknights. For example, I will make rice or pasta for the week, which I can mix with various other items to create a unique meal.

I’m good on breakfast and lunch. I’m out of zero point soup for dinner. I can make a Publix run and whip up a batch in a couple of hours. Maybe tomorrow.
