Okay @$$ movers, here's the new thread for the SEPTEMBER 2024 Move Your @$$ Challenge!
PLEASE READ the directions below.
We welcome all newbies and welcome back to the oldies!
"Rules of the Challenge"
1. Set your goal and post it to the thread....distance ONLY (Miles or KMs) - NO minutes, NO # of workouts, NO # of calories, NO # of steps - DISTANCE ONLY.
2. Make your ticker if you want to use one (see directions below or in the FAQ thread) or add your goal to the thread.
3. Get moving your @$$ starting on the first day of the month.
4. Post as often as you can to the thread so we can keep the sheet (see link below) up to date. You are welcome to report what you are moving each time BUT please make sure you post the TOTAL miles (or kms) moved each time you update.
Please don't post any previous month's miles here. We will continue updating the previous month's spreadsheet using the old thread for approximately the first 5 or so days of the new and current month. Please add only your current month's goals/miles to this thread. Got it?
The purpose is to set a distance goal (KM or Miles) and track your distance for the month - please only do one or the other...if you are doing KM just report in KM - we have a formula in the spreadsheet that will convert it to miles for us.
You are challenging yourself, not competing against anyone else.....the distance can be on a treadmill, stairmaster, elliptical, bike, roller blades, walking, running, biking, hiking, swimming (if you can measure).....just set a distance goal and do the work.
Report to the thread often to keep us updated because we track our info on a spreadsheet (see link below) so you can see how you are doing compared to the group but not to openly compete with them. Whatever goes on inside your own brain is your own business.
The idea is to set your goal and reach it before the end of the month.
Welcome to all - new and old.....have a great month challenging yourself!
Link to the Google spreadsheet where you can view (but not edit). The Challenge Admins will update it for you at mostly random times.....but typically a day or so. Don't hold us too tightly to that though.

Directions for making a ticker:
Go to either www.tickerfactory.com and create a Fitness ticker. Then copy the "BB code" and paste it into your posts on this thread each time you do an update. (More detailed info is located in the FAQ thread on the MYAC Group page.)
Welcome and we hope you enjoy your stay and that you find this helpful in realizing your fitness goals!

@anaconda469 - glad you are getting better.
@clepant - the puppies are a time sink for sure. Still not quite housebroken, but getting better. Good thing they are beyond cute! I decided to sacrifice my laundry hamper to them....

@ANACONDA469 - Glad to see the recover is going well!! The MCL & ACL bands are the last thing to give in to the stretching. Just keep being patient and doing your PT and regular moving and they will loosen up right to where you need them to be! You are doing amazing!!
@JANET - The picture of your pup is SO ADORABLE!! What did you end up naming them again? And good luck with the laundry.
I need to get my rear in gear this month. It's already the 4th and I've gotten one lousy mile of deliberate exercise in so far!!
Thank you for the kind words! Our rest time last weekend was cut short to only 1 day...barely (Saturday). By 8pm that day, my SIL had already texted my wife that the kitchen sink faucet had broken and was leaking all under the sink and so was the drain for the garbage disposal and asked if we could come up in the morning and take a look at it. Oh, and the water pressure in the shower was just a trickle. We had them shut off the water to the sink and said "Sure." :eyeroll: I had to talk my wife down off the ledge. LOL We're the only people they ever call when something in the house isn't working. But being a Sunday AND a Holiday weekend, It would cost them MINIMUM $500 just to get a plumber out to their house. We took our time waking up that morning and gathered every plumbing tool we might conceivably need and headed to Home Depot to buy a new faucet and some supplies.
It was an absolutely gorgeous day out...72*F with clear skies and sunny! Of course we took the convertible with top down and took our time driving the hour to their house. It was glorious. I had already told my sore and bruised wife (from all the moving and carrying boxes the last week) that I would take the sink faucet and disposal leak and climbing/laying under the cabinet if she'd investigate the shower water pressure issue. She ended up replacing the cartridge in the hot/cold mixing valve and draining the hot water heater while I replaced the kitchen faucet and made one more run to Home Depot for a pipe that needed replacing. We were there about four hours. Granted a licensed plumber would have done the jobs a whole lot quicker lol, but it would have probably cost them in the neighborhood of $2,000 for parts & labor. We did it for about $300 in parts. They were very grateful and we felt good that we were able to help them out. Although my wife was still pretty grumbly. But we enjoyed an equally glorious ride home in the convertible with a nice dinner out along the way so all was good.

@darkrider42 - wow, Dave. You are a very good person! Your story reminds me what we are capable of when we have to dig deep and push through. As I look back I wonder how I ever made it through some of my worst days, but fortunately those days are not every day, and we can put them behind us knowing we did what we had to do. Glad you enjoyed the convertible and a nice dinner as your reward!
I'm at 9/50. Absolutely gorgeous day here.1 -

@Dave: Well done to you and your wife! I think we all were working over time. I still am with my SIL. Sad to say say brother did everything for her and now has come back to bite her in the butt. She has to put the big girl pants on, but my sister and I are in her speed dial. Tomorrow it is taking the dog to the vet for long over due visit and hot spots. I guess we can only hope someone will be there for us when we need it.
@Janet: So stinkin’ cute! I was fortunate that my pup only chewed on his toys and we never lost anything. My guy is getting neutered Friday and having Gastropexy surgery while under. Going to be limited activity for him and me sneaking out to walk without him.,

Very true...how could we in any good conscience ignore their situation when we have the ability to help them? That's all we could do is take a deep breath and know we are helping when they need it most. And like Char said, we have to put our Big Girl/Boy Pants On!
And my wife and I have wondered aloud a couple of times this weekend who would be there for us if something happened to one of us. Most likely it would have to be one of our close friends. Not so sure any of my kids would be in any position to help financially or otherwise. And statistically, my oldest brother is 9 years older than me so he may not be around....the other brother is 7 years older. I'm the baby. Of my 3 kids, my married daughter is most financially stable, but that's not saying much....lol....plus she lives halfway across the country in California. I don't know....I guess someone will have to figure something out.

@Dave: My hubby and I are in the same convertible as you are, I have no children although I raised my sister’s son and brother’s son. My hubby’s kids don’t speak to him and my sister is 2 years older than me. I hopefully have church people to help, but ultimately we have to make preparations for us., otherwise I am trusting in the Lord to meet our needs.

@CLEPANT - Sure sounds like you are in the same car, but I think that's a pretty good plan you have in place. Prepare as much as you can and put the rest in the trust of church people and prayer to work things out. Good luck with your fur baby's surgery!
Dave1 -
I'm at 14/50. It's quite cool here - I feel for my California friends.
@clepant - the puppies are really very good about not chewing the furniture or the walls. We made a decision to sacrifice the hamper but they are good about observing the other boundaries. Now the hamper is their play house (and the new hamper is in another room!).1 -

@Dave : Hopefully the plan will work.
@Janet: I was not implying you had chewers, only that I really lucked out. I had a dog that destroyed my sofa, another that took out a floor and another my shoes and pants, while another worked on my window sills and baseboards.
Brinklley’s dad did ewt not one but two seresto collars, part of a plastic bucket, plastic toys. I had to take him to the ER when he ate a toy. They could not see him because he was not sick enough and told me give him some olive oil. I walked him like a horse with colic. He passed it in the
morning. I don’t know how it did not tear up his intestines. I guess his size helped.
