Today's Topic: Sleep
Sleep is considered an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. 7-8 hours is considered the standard for a good night of sleep. A few questions.
Are you able to acquire all the sleep you need?
Do you nap?
Is your sleep restful?
Do sleep levels affect your appetite?
How else may sleep levels affect your healthy lifestyle?

Are you able to acquire all the sleep you need? Not usually.
Do you nap? Once in a while. Often in front of my computer.
Is your sleep restful? Usually, it is.
Do sleep levels affect your appetite? Not that I've noted.
How else may sleep levels affect your healthy lifestyle?
Not enough equals "foggy" brain.1 -
This quest is timely as I was just thinking I need to schedule a sleep study. I rarely wake up feeling refreshed no matter how much sleep I get. I generally don't nap but sometimes do on a long car ride. Sleep doesn't seem to affect my appetite directly, but if my sleep hours get off, then eating at strange times of the day can impact how many calories I consume. I've been reading about sleep and hormone levels and dementia. Getting better sleep is a priority for me.1

One of the reasons I wound up on WW was the results of a sleep study back in 2010.. It was a life saving study that help me get on track to save my life. My respiratory therapist said it was one of the worst studies he'd ever seen in 20 years. I had stopped breathing 97 times an hour with between 10 seconds 30 seconds up to 60 seconds without breathing. I was bassically a mess. Tachycardia among other things.
Anyway it had effected my appetite tremendously. I was always terribly hungry due to sleep deprivation. I had gotten up to 400.9 lbs.
After I started my therapy on a bipap machine my heavy appetite disappeared. I lost 100 lbs between 9-12 months. I no longer was sleepy even after getting up at 7 and couldn't hold my head up.
My therapist told me not to close my eyes without having my mask and machine on. So to say the least I wouldn't be hear without it. I've only missed having my machine on one time in 14 years and that was a couple of weeks ago some 14 years later. I didn't have what I needed and was out of town. I didn't ok but it was tough.
So bottom line sleep definitely effects me and my weight.0 -
I'm a sleep connoisseur and have read a dozen books about sleep. I wear a CPAP device which is a game changer for quality sleep. My mantra is " Sleep well to eat well. Eat well to sleep well."0

Insomnia how do I hate thee!
There is a reason I start the roll Call thread every morning between 4 & 5! It's a recurring problem that I have dealt with for decades. CPAP therapy does improve the quality of what sleep I get but it does not get to a full 8 hours. 5 or 6 is a night is about all I can manage. Fortunatly I am retired so afternoon naps are OK.1
