Well, November was a real challenge for me - 23 days of Covid (starting on Oct 28), followed directly after by 9 days of a new different viral infection that made it very difficult to swallow for about 5 of those days … yea, I'm def looking forward to a new month and a new chance to soar ✨💚 ! Who's in?

Cheers,

    Happy December !

Yesterday, I had Naked Juice Green Machine, Naval Orange, Clementine, Lentil Chips, and Peanut Butter. (I'm trying to get a serving from the Nuts, Seeds, Beans, & Legumes category too).

I'm in Week 4 of a 5 week Hogwarts Challenge, where one of the tasks is to make an "Unbreakable Vow" for the first 4 weeks of the challenge. Because Freggies in general, and Greens in particular, are a real challenge for me 😉, I've made "Get a full serving of any green fruit or vegetable at least 4 days a week" my 'Unbreakable Vow for the last 2 challenges.

I was making tick marks to keep track, but I've migrated to a spreadsheet. The Hogwarts Challenge has an "Accountability Tracker" Google Sheets Workbook to keep track of all the various Castle and Common Room activities and challenges - since the Unbreakable Vow is one of the sections, I just commandeered part of my personal Sheet to track my Freggies 😎.

I'm still tweaking it, but I'll grab a screenshot at the end of the week, to show my Freg / Green progress for the last 4 weeks.

Anyway, no pix for yestrday, but I still focused on it!

    ~ mk :)

    @mkksemail, that salad looks awesome!
I'll be having Swiss chard in my soup and a green smoothie tonight for dinner.
Good idea to advertise on the challenge board.

    Thanks, @aalley5 !

I think of it more as avocado toast with greens on top, but I guess it has been growing into more like salad with eggs & avocado toast in it, lol ~

    MMMMM, what kind of soup!

I can't take credit for the advertise idea, that was SG's idea, way back when she had the idea for the group, I just never followed up on it. It's 'been a fall', shall we say? 😉🙃😊

Good morning, Greenies! Oooooo, looking & sounding delicous, SG! What does a Jerusalem artichoke taste like, btw? I made artichoke soup for Easter a while back (like, 15 yrs, maybe?), from a recipe in a Kindle cookbook that featured recipes from aroiund the time of the birth of the US. It called for Jerusalem artichokes, but, at the time at least, they were not available in my local supermarket. We used canned artichokes, and the soup was amazing, I have to say. HOWEVER, it didn't taste at all like what it was meant to, given that I couldn't find Jerusalem artichokes. Heh

Anyway! Hubby home tonight - arrives at local airport at 22:34. Yay :)

Today my plan will be a repeat of yesterday's avocado toast w/ greens (other half of the avocado already mixed up from yesterday). Trying it on a blueberry English muffin today :). Also, later on ... Naval Orange, Clementine, Baked Apple, and Naked Juice Green Machine.

It looks like snow up here today. It's not going to snow, but it looks like it (if you know what I mean.

Happy Tuesday! Looking forward to a fresh and delicious December! Started doing my shop online last night. Out of artichokes and greens after today. Wanting some bananas, cauliflower, and not sure what else. I'll pick up in the morning. Or maybe this evening, we'll see.

    Cheers :)

The "Unbreakable Vow" 4-week Challenge in Hogwarts' Term 52 ended yesterday, I've copy/pasted in my 'Claim' post for the full 15 pts for meeting your "UV" all four weeks. This may seem like no big deal, but if I had a chart like this from before these Greens Challenges started, I'd be lucky to break 1 day a week in all of these areas! Get Your Greens, & Other Freggies too has been a big boost for me ^-^. TY for the inspiration, especially you, SG ! 🤍🤍🤍

I plan to keep 'charting' my Freg, etc for the last week of the term (not part of the 4-week challenge, and for the break until Term 53 starts in January, AND then I'll be making it my Unbreakable Vow for next Term, too. Because until I don't have to think about it, and it's just a regular part of my life, Freg consumption doesn't happen unless I'm intentional about it :p.

    Unbreakable Vow
"The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death."

In Godric's Hollow, Voldemort was first defeated by Harry Potter. It is in this place where students have the opportunity to create their own 4-week challenges to help improve themselves however they'd like.

Since this is an optional challenge, these points will only count towards your individual point total and NOT house points.

For this term we will have the following schedule for the Unbreakable Vow Challenge.

    [*] Unbreakable Vow
    • Post your vow by 11:59 pm ET on Wednesday, November 13th. The thread will be posted before term starts and you will have until Wednesday of Week 1 to post a vow.
    • Follow your vow through weeks 1-4 (Monday, November 11th through Sunday, December 8th). (If you post your vow on Nov 12th or Nov 13th, then you will follow it from the day it is posted so make your vow accordingly).
    • Claim your points (see below) during week 5 - You will have all week until the end of term on 11:59 pm ET on Sunday, December 15th. You may not submit points late using a tardy pass.[/color]

Note - Given the ample amount of time we allow for students to post their vows and claim their points, the use of a tardy pass to post or claim points is NOT allowed.

For this challenge, you will challenge yourself in a way that will improve your health. The challenge you pick should be a physical or food-related challenge.

    Rules:
    • The challenge must be a Quidditch/Potions-style challenge - i.e. a physical/exercise challenge or a food-related challenge. We will give students a lot of freedom, but please make sure to pick something that is a decent challenge for you.
      • Please note: Personal goals such as meditating, journaling, getting X hours of sleep per night, etc. do not count as Quidditch/Potion-style challenges, but they may be combined with such tasks when creating your vow. For example you could vow to do 15 minutes of creative writing and 15 minutes of strength training, 4 days per week.
      • If your vow does NOT include a Quidditch / Potion task then you will be asked to change it, but you will still only have until the respective deadline for posting your vow to do so. Therefore we highly encourage you to post your vow as soon as possible and reach out to a staff member if you have any questions.
    • The challenge should be a SMART challenge - specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-based. Therefore, "be more healthy" is NOT an appropriate challenge. However, "exercise for at least 15 minutes 5 days per week" is a SMART goal that you can achieve. As you will see from the examples below, it must also be clearly measurable - therefore do NOT use "most days" of the week - please be specific.
    • Because we also run a challenge to meet your calorie goal on a weekly basis (Arithmancy), you may NOT use that or tracking/logging food for your challenge goal.
    • Because we also run a challenge to meet your water goal on a weekly basis (Alchemy), you may NOT use that or tracking/logging drinks for your challenge goal.
    • Because the overall challenge is a weight-loss (or maintenance) challenge and we give you points for weigh-ins each week, please do NOT pick a challenge that is simply "lose x lbs."
    • Note: We STRONGLY recommend that you give yourself some leeway. It is often unrealistic to expect to complete something every single day, so please feel free to give yourself at least one day off when writing your challenge. For example, you could aim to get 1 hour of exercise every day, but for your official challenge you might use "I will exercise for 1 hour at least 5 days per week." Sometimes people get sick, have family emergencies, etc - so please give yourself a little wiggle room for those unexpected life events.
    • Once you have posted your challenge, it may NOT be changed after the respective 4-week period has begun!

    Examples for challenges:
    • I will exercise for 15 minutes at least 6 days per week (or even more specific - I will complete 10 minutes of stretching every day)
    • I will complete 30 minutes of exercise for 3 days each week
    • I will eat at least 3 servings of fruits/vegetables for 5 days each week
    • I will not eat fast food for at least 6 days of each week
    • I will run at least 10 miles each week

If you are not sure if your challenge will be okay, please feel free to PM a staff member so we can confirm if it's appropriate.

When you post your vow, please include your house name in ALL CAPS!

    Example:
    RAVENCLAW

I vow to stay under 150 grams of carbs for 4 days each week.

You may earn 3, 7, or 15 points for completing this optional challenge.
    • 15 points for completing your vow 100% of the challenge.
    • 7 points for completing your vow 75% of the challenge.
For example, if my challenge was to exercise 3 times per week and some weeks I only exercised twice, then I'd claim 7 points.
    • 3 points for attempting your vow but succeeding for less than 75% of the challenge time.
To earn those 3 points, you must still post at the end of the challenge stating that you attempted the challenge but did not complete it.
When you are claiming your points, make sure to quote your original vow and then state how many points you earned.

If you have any questions, please contact any of the staff members:

I plan to start with my Unbreakable Vow from the second half of Term 51 - I still need to work on this:

I solemnly swear to get at least one full servings of GREEN freggie at least 4 days per week.

SLYTHERIN - Claiming 15 pts! Wooop!! Much better showing than T51, 2nd half 🙌🎉🐍💚✨✔

I exceeded my goal, meeting it 131.25% of the goal days of 16, including >=4 days/wk, all 4 wks of the challenge. This is probably too small, but here are screenshots of tracking my Greens, Other Freggies, and Nuts, etc.

I've gotten particularly good about getting some kind of Freg almost every day - my Other Freggies are a 'yes' 27 out of 28 days of the challenge ^-^ (and that was NOT the case before the challenge ;-) ):

Tuesday! I am really digging these Raw Generation and Raw Fountain pre-made shakes, smoothies, & juices! I am saving the bottles so that I can refill them with homemade ones, with my Vitamix and Juiceman, after they're gone. My husband really likes the nut smoothies, particularly the Chocolate Cashew (it tastes like a Chocolate Sundae, no lie! lol ~ Love the shape - designed for easy storage in the freezer! Brill !

The Raw Generation seems better than the Raw Fountain. The former are more like shakes and smoothies, the latter more like juices. They are both pretty well rated, according to Dietician reviews, but the Raw Generation took the top spot in one that I remember, in particular:

    From Google Search:

Raw Generation and Raw Fountain are both juice companies that offer cleanses and juices:
    • Raw Generation
Offers flash-frozen, preservative-free juices and smoothies that can be stored for later use. They offer a variety of cleanses and durations, and some say they are the best overall juice cleanse.
    • Raw Fountain
Offers cold-pressed juices that are said to be healthier and taste better than juices made with regular juicers. They offer a 3-day juice cleanse.

The 8 Best Juice Cleanses of 2024, According to a Dietitian

Juice cleanses have become increasingly popular these days. The idea behind a juice cleanse is to “reset,” “detox,” or “remove parasites” in your body by exclusively consuming nutrient-dense juiced fruits and vegetables. For some, a juice cleanse may help break bad eating habits and maintain a healthy weight.1 “Fresh juices are loaded with vitamins and minerals and may help you feel better on a short-term basis if you were eating a relatively nutrient-poor diet before,” explains SaVanna Shoemaker, MS, RDN. “Additionally, increasing your liquid consumption may help ease bloating.” However, she notes that these benefits are temporary—it’s best to focus on a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables to maintain healthy nutrient levels.

Finding recipes, good quality fresh fruit, equipment, and time to make the appropriate amount of juice for the entire cleanse can be daunting. Thankfully, many companies will deliver fresh juices to your doorstep, making a cleanse convenient and easy. We researched 38 companies to find the best juice cleanses available based on price, ingredient quality, and much more. We also consulted a registered dietitian and had her weigh in on a juice cleanse’s safety and health benefits.

    TK

    Best Overall: Raw Generation

    kzketpvpw4oo.png

    * What We Like & What to Consider
    • Flash-frozen and always raw
    • Multiple juice packs and cleanses to pick from
    • Easily customizable
    • Frozen juices need time to thaw in the fridge
    • Not 100% organic

The family-owned Raw Generation was co-founded by certified holistic health coach Jess Rosen to make healthy plant-based juices and smoothies accessible to everyone. Ingredients are raw and preservative-free, and the juices are flash-frozen instead of high-pressure processed. This means you can store them in your freezer to enjoy whenever you need them, rather than rushing to drink them before they expire.

Pick from three different cleanses—the Skinny Cleanse, the Lower Sugar Detox Cleanse, and the Protein Cleanse—as well as several other juice and smoothie “wellness packs.” You get to select how long the cleanse is, ranging from two to 10 days, with certain plans given an additional option to “auto-ship” (Raw Generation’s word for subscription) for an additional discount. And if you don’t want to pick a pre-curated cleanse, you can easily build your box from a wide range of juices and smoothies. Options include the Cool Green juice made with pineapple, cucumber, and aloe vera; Fresh Greens with cucumber, green apple, spinach, kale, lemon, and parsley; and Ginger Turmeric with apple, ginger, and turmeric.

    Pricing & Plans
    • Skinny Cleanse: Starts at $135
    • Lower Sugar Detox Cleanse: Starts at $135
    • Protein Cleanse: Starts at $135

I bought a 10-day Cleanse package on a pre-Black Friday sale. We're not doing a 10-day Cleanse tho, just consuming a couple of them each day. Same with the Raw Fountain Juice Cleanse package, tho that one was a 7-day Cleanse package.

    My today ~

Half a Naked Juice Green Machine (only 1 glass left in the bottle, I split it with the mister 🤍), protein tea, and an Egg & Cheddar on a Honey Wheat English Muffin (made in a cute, nifty Hamilton Beach Breakfast Sandwich Maker 😊). I also had my Raw Generation Sweet Roots that I'd planned on having yesterday, but did not. It's not in the picture, tho:

Tuesday Freg! This recipe is delicious ! Recommend :). Hubby and I made it last night. Yum 😋 We literally had all the ingredients in our fridge and freezer and pantry (used canned diced tomatoes instead of sun-roasted tomatoes - cook 'em long enough, they taste the same ;-) ). I'm not sure why exactly I had Feta in the fridge, or Spinach in the freezer, but I did, so yay.We added 3x the tomatoes and garlic, and twice the onions. That's probably not the only reason it doesn't look the same as theirs, but it was delicious! 😋

Actually had a salad for lunch/dinner. Bought it for lunch, then classes came in & had my hands full. Working late so it turned into dinner. Dairy Queen crispy chicken salad (lettuce & tomatoes + the proteins) with honey mustard dressing. Way healthier than breakfast! But at least it’s a green. Last night was healthier with salmon, corn on the cob, & biscuits (ok those don’t count as healthy). Winter break starts Friday afternoon & I plan to use it to get into a healthy food prep & get to the gym at least 1-2 nights a week to swim laps/leg weights routine. Hoping to ramp up the greens during it, but for now..what’s left of the dinner I’m currently eating.

@filmgal30 , wtg for reaching for the freg ! As one who struggles with that, as you do, reaching across from Maine to give you double high-five!

@SafariGalNYC ...... ahhhh that shake looks so good ! And the blueberries made me smile.

We're still working our way through the 10-day Raw Gen Juice Cleanse, and the 7-Day Raw Fountain Juice Cleanse, that arrived a couple weeks ago. (I bought them on Black Friday Sales on a steep discount, and they arrived with our 3rd of the month Amazon Subscribe & Save. Going to re-order a new selection of Protein Nut Shakes from Raw Gen b/c they're so damn good, and a Protein Juice Cleanse selection from Raw Fountain, when we make it through these 102 bottles (lol) b/c they're so damn good.

And I've been saving the bottles, b/c I'm going to remake them in batches, when we're through. I love having them ready to grab, instead of making a shake every day. And the ingredients are just what the juices/shakes/smoothies are, plus some filtered water. There's no strange ingredients, me and my Vitamix can make these way more economically than the price per bottle that they are.

The Raw Fountain is $229.99 for 42 bottles, plus 7 ginger shots; ignoring the ginger shots, that's $5.47 ea; we got them on sale for $172.49, that's $4.10 ea.

The Raw Generation is $369.99 for 60 bottles; that's $6.16 ea; we got them on sale for $265.43, that's $4.42 ea.

Even the sale prices are high, IMO, so I'm definitely going to give a try at making them in batches, and freezing them, so they can be defrosted for grab and go, without the prep and cleaning every day.

The Raw Fountain Protein Cleanse is already ordered and scheduled to arrive with our January Subscribe & Save. It has 3 repeat flavors that were in the Juice Cleanse (Rise N Shine, Water Vera, Citris Kick), and 3 new flavors that I'm excited to try (Glow Green, Nutty Cacao, Vanilla Delight).

The Raw Generation is not ordered yet, I'll wait until we're out of the ones we already have. Plus, the one I'm looking (High Fiber Gut Reset) at is super-expensive, $199.99 for 18 bottles, currently on sale for $149.99. I'm thinking there might be a chance they have a New Year's Sale, b/c of everyone's New Year's Resolutions, so maybe I can get a more reasonable per bottle price ($8.33 ea) if I wait 🤔. Even the sale price is too dear, IMO.

Raw Fountain 7-day Juice Cleanse (there's supposed to be 7 Ginger Shots, instead of the 3 pictured):

Raw Fountain 7 Day Protein Juice Cleanse (3 new flavors, 3 repeats):

Raw Generation Higher Fiber Gut Reset (4 new flavors, 2 repeats):

Plus, we have a variety of other juices also purchased on Black Friday sales ... V-8, Knudsen (I bought 4 flavors, but two of the 12-packs were broken in transit and not delivered, I bought a couple larger bottles locally, to at least try them), and the Naked Juices, too.

And on both days we had the 2 each (well, 1 each for each of us ;-), 2 each day ) of the 4 leftover servings of the Spinach-Onion-Tomato-Garlic-Egg-English Muffin Casserole that we made on Tuesday:
