Just checking in. I’ve gone back to a low carb diet for the week. I’m not a fan, but with this insulin resistance and hormone therapy it seems like the best plan.
I will still have a higher carb dinner on Saturday but that’s it. My daughter looks forward to our, as she puts it “fun” dinner for the week. She still has all of her delicious, nutritious and energy filled carbs during the week but on Saturday we will have something where the carb is more of the main. Like lasagna, or pizza maybe pancakes.
I always make sure not to label food as good or bad at home. I’ve tried to teach my kids to balance their nutrition. Have a cupcake for dessert and maybe an apple or something protein rich for a snack later if hungry, not another cupcake.

@CasandraW it went as well as can be expected. I failed at being in two at once, LOL but otherwise did OK. Another once today but at at least I'm not double-booked anywhere.

@frankwbrown Good job! I earned that and the Year Of The Snake one this morning. :)

    Good morning,
Today I'm cleaning and prepping our maple syrup equipment. We only tap a few trees but it's enough sap to make a few liters of syrup. Anyone else make syrup?
I was going to go back to my volunteer position at the local foodbank but didn't. The ladies, and 1 gentleman that are there are very lovely. The only problem is that they remind me of my mom, maybe next week.

@Pupowl do you know of an old Dutch expression that has a literal translation to "love cookies don't always bake?" my mom used to say it all the time but I can't remember exactly how it goes. This would be a pretty old one, her parents moved to Canada in the 1950's. The translation I got from google is "Liefde koekjes niet altijd bakken" but I don't think it's quite right. If you don't know no problem, I'm trying to avoid asking my Aunt.

    Hi Guys:

Had a good appointment this morning with my Doctor...well, NP...she was very, VERY happy with my change of direction in October of last year and elated over my progress since that time...down nearly 40 lbs. Also, was happy with the results of my Ultrasound back in December. She said BP was great...no swelling noted in my lower legs and ankles...

She gave me some tips on stretching and approved all of my goals for this year. She agreed that if I stay on my current track, I will definitely see 250 this year. I'm so excited I could burst!! We will celebrate that when it comes later this year. I have a follow-up scheduled for May.

Came home, made lunch and played with Betty for a bit. Getting ready to lie down and read for a little while.

Just wanted to share...enjoy your day!

@CasandraW You are lucky that my mom is visiting, lol, because I didn't know that one. The Dutch saying is "Lieverkoekjes worden niet gebakken." which basically means that you don't always get what you want ~ 'Wishcookies don't get baked'. So a child saying "I don't want to read, I would rather play" could get that said to them. Liever in this case has nothing to do with love, but with prefer/rather have. I hope that makes sense!

@DaffyGirl88 Thanks for asking! I am doing alright over here. Just a little weight loss journey tired I guess. I am still eating well but not as rigid and low calorie as I used to be. I am very much looking forward to going to the gym, my intake appointment is Tuesday. Besides that I just have nothing much to say. I do the same things every day and it feels a little pointless to post about it. I do want to get back to adding in more nature walks, and if something interesting happens, I will for sure pop in here!

Thank you so much!!! That is the right one. I'd never seen it written and was just trying to remember how it sounded. She said it all the time, and I could never pronounce it correctly. Again, thank you so much

I'm pretty happy with the loss. I had a closer look at the estimates of calories consumed and calories burned. My weekly deficit wasn't anywhere close to what I thought it was. The once a week or so that I went over on calories came close to wiping out the entire week's deficit! Add in some errors in the estimations, and it explains quite clearly why I haven't been losing weight.

So I've been working on tightening up my food. I'm trying to track more accurately and I lowered my goal slightly. It's only been a few days, so any loss is a big positive! I'm interested to see how it shakes up in the next week.

On the downside, the gym just hasn't happened this week. Things keep popping up, preventing me from going. I'm hoping I'll be able to pull it all together this next week, and month, and get the scale moving a bit more!

@morenin Welcome to the family! Glad you've already made a friend here...I am Jessica, one of your two captains, the other being @Pupowl, who takes all the lovely photos!! (She doesn't realize her own talent, but we remind her a LOT!) I hope you find this group to be a great source of support and inspiration for you during your journey. Sounds like you have some good plans already in place and now it's time to just work through them!

Please full advantage of all the advice and support with our walking challenge, group challenges each week, announced here, but in a different chat thread...links posted on Saturdays, as challenges run from Sun-Sat.

Again, on behalf of your captains, motivators @Cyncia85 and @LaurieWrobo and the whole team, we're really glad you're here! Good luck in February and beyond! I look forward to celebrating milestones with you soon!

Disappointing but not unexpected after going out for Mexican food. A combination of sodium, carbs, and being glued to my desk all week for meetings. Hoping it's just temporary. Wishing I hadn't skipped the margarita if I was going to gain anyway. :/

@Pupowl love the picture of the pink clouds

@jessicakrall8 Great check-up!! Congrats on your progress and am looking forward to seeing you accomplish even more.

I’m in NYC for the weekend. It’s cold and rainy and noisy lol. But I’m having fun.
Had a good doctor’s visit this week. After being off HRT for six months, we looked at my blood work and we were both shocked at how bad my estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone numbers were! So I’m going back on HRT stat!! I expect to start feeling better and more like myself soon! This should also help with some sleep issues I’ve been having. I stopped because I figured since I was post-menopausal, I didn’t need them anymore. I was wrong. I also didn’t realize the important role these hormones play in fighting osteoporosis, heart disease, and promoting brain health. So I feel good that I’m going in a positive direction. Still learning things at 63 lol. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

I see I’m running into my hibernation phase! I always gain in January. I guess I’m cold and I want comfort food all the time. I’ve been distracted by a lot of reorganizing so I’ve pushed off cooking and we’ve been eating out entirely too much. Even though we have two weekend trips planned next month, I want to commit to eating better in February. Wile I was tossing old papers I found something I wrote about six years ago with specific actions I wanted to take with respect to my diet. I filed it away with a mental note to go back and look at it. I think it will be helpful, even if I change it up.

Has anyone else made specific actionable changes?
